Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

I'm still speaking to them and they refuse to do anything to compensate me and do not care if I use this as proof of misinformation or false advertising. They basically just say, "There is nothing we can do," other than to return the items once they arrive -- which, by the way, they won't tell you, counts as a knock against your account. If you return too many things then you may lose your account. Even if you try and cancel 8+ days before.

I even used you guys as an example of this being a random luck of the draw, and that other reps can do it, and they just say, "It's always been our policy." Yeah, right.

Heads up guys, can't cancel pre-orders that are 8+ days away from being released (let alone shipped) on Amazon anymore.
After reading your post just now I decided to finally cancel my Uncharted 4 pre-order that I only placed as filler to get free shipping on something else. I had no problem at all.

It only gives you the lowest price between when you order and when it ships, so no you won't get that $20 price unless it happens again somehow. With 2 weeks left I only see one chance (Black Friday) for it to drop by $5 or so, but we'll see.
Man I'm really kicking myself for not preordering during E3. Hopefully it'll be at least slightly cheaper on boxing day but I doubt it

After 2 hours arguing with these people and showing them proof (with my own orders which contradict their lies), they say they will escalate it to the technical team to cancel.

So, yeah, it is all random and luck.

(quote to see it).

Honestly keep trying. I went through 3 CSR to cancel Sword Art Online and it worked out (lol).

I think it's just luck whether you get a rep who actually wants to help you and will do workarounds if they have to or if you get a rep who can't be bothered so will tell you all sorts of things about how it's impossible to do anything.

Like the Fire Emblem thing recently where all orders defaulted to Birthright. People were getting Conquest added but reps I talked to keep saying it's impossible to add to existing orders.

Tried cancelling Zelda Wii U which was in a order containing an item that already shipped. It cancelled no problem. Then I tried to cancel FF7 Remake which is also with an item that already shipped. Can't cancel, I get this:

We're sorry. An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we're working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Please try again in a few minutes.

Seems random…

Edit: Had no problem cancelling using their mobile app.

I had this error before:

"We're sorry. An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we're working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Please try again in a few minutes."

when trying to cancel pre-orders on Amazon.ca. Actually, I still do. Just last night I tried to cancel Sword Art Online: Lost Song and got hit with it. This happened before in the past, even to games being released two weeks in advance. I tried contacting Customer Service and they kept telling me that the item was being prepared for shipment. Sure, being "prepared for shipment" two weeks in advance. :/

One fix I found was to log into the mobile Amazon.ca site and cancel your order there through your Order History. I know, it seems like a strange work-around, but it's always worked for me. Maybe give that a try?

Yeah, I tried to cancel Mario Tennis (which was the last discounted game to ship in an order of three) and it wouldn't let me. I was super annoyed.

That happen to my E3 orders as well, I can cancel it on my cell.

I went to cancel Zelda and Amazon had prepared it for shipping several days early. They ended up providing me with a return shipping label as it was shipped much earlier than expected and could not be cancelled. No fuss from them, but likely was the rep I had.

Why you speak to the same csr for two hours I don't know? Cancel the chat and start another one. Web chat is best for them. Just be like it accidentally disconnected. Also, I just used the cancel items button for my order. This was the 14th or later for Battlefront.

Your right in that being too much of a complainer, returning or canceling items makes you a problem and they'll one day just close your account and prevent you from ever using them again.

I spoke to two different CSRs. And if it truly is random, there is no guarantee it would've taken less time with another CSR.

And of course I already tried the automatic "Cancel" button, it did not work, which is why I had to contact them.

Do you Web chat with them? At this point, I'd say best bet is to take the hit, let it ship and then return. It sucks. Amazon Canada is especially shit compared to the US. Don't know why. They both outsource to India and Malaysia for their customer service.

Battlefront season pass was $50 until a few weeks ago, now it's $80.

On that note, my copy just got delivered, never got mail this late before.

I'm legit surprised there isn't a bigger outrage over the Canadian price of that season pass. It might be the biggest ripoff of the year, especially considering the base game is considered to be so content-light.

I want to ask, would anyone who's getting an extra copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X for $15/$20 (depending on what discounts you got at E3) from Amazon be willing to let me buy it off of you for the same price? Amazon doesn't seem to be budging on giving late folks the discount, so I was hoping someone would be able to sell an extra copy. I can pay for shipping if needed.

Yeah, especially since it should be around $65 if we're converting US to CDN. EA can fuck itself.

Good Gawd at these price hikes! So glad that I locked in a fair amount of pre-orders over the last couple of years plus building a gaming PC in January. Otherwise, I think my favorite hobby would be seeing a serious downturn. Then again, I'd maybe be able to justify working on my rather massive backlog from both this and last generation. haha

I complained about things for 4-5 months. They never threatened me.

They just sent the email out today. All versions seem unavailable. My guess is they didn't go live yet.
Let's hope.

It's always worrisome when it comes to special editions in Canada. Sometimes we get a ridiculously low allocation, so I hope this isn't one of those cases.

EA, Ubi and friends don't care, that's why people don't bother, they won't change the price.

Canadian reviewers really should rake the over the coals for content-light games though.

PS4: $79.99
Vita: $54.99
Not long until $84.99/$59.99. This is getting ridiculous.

I thought we hit $59.99 with Persona 4 Dancing All Night. Anyways, at least we'll be stuck at $79.99 for quite a while, what with reluctance to bring it back down after our dollar improves (ahaha)

I've never returned anything back to Amazon before and Im trying to return Battlefront. I got an email saying that I have been charged $64.99 when it shipped but why is the refund total only $51.38?

Cuz they make you pay shipping, even though the item would have qualified for free shipping lol.

I do everything in my power to not return things to amazon.

Still doesnt make sense. I chose the option where I will arrange my own shipping. Even if I used Canada Post, it would have cost me about $6.50

You sure you paid $65? Just doing rough math here, but $65 - 30% plus tax is roughly what you were refunded.

Well it was part of the e3 deal, but I forgot how much the discount was during the promo. Im just going by the email I got when it shipped saying that I was charged $64.99

Yeah, those aren't really accurate. If you want to find out how much you were really charged, go to your Orders on Amazon and click on Invoice.

Ok thank you. I just spoke with Amazon, they will be refunding me $70.81 and they will pay for the return shipping.

Edit:

OK makes sense now. I just checked my invoice:

Okay, I guess Best Buy just confirmed my earlier question. Star Wars BF couldn't go through because I have to update the card information, and only it got cancelled in the order. That is a relief.
