Nice. Let's hope we can get disc based emulation as well.
Would be nice, but there is no money in letting us play games we own. They will most likely make us "pay again" to download. Hope the jaded and cynical me is wrong.

Reckon this will get announced at PSX?
Edit: Might be the only way to play FFXII considering SE have been so silent about the HD remaster.
If your PS2 classics on PS3 don't carry over, that's a huge failure on their part. There's also no reason why disc based games shouldn't work at all. Not every game is going to get a digital release, so games that I already own that are otherwise out of print should work.

It's a software based emulation, of course not.
So would they all get trophy support or nah? Would love to play Revenge of the Sith with trophies lol.
They didn't have UMD compatibility with Vita after all
As I said before, I want a huge library more than disc support.
You know how their model is going to look ? Also, you don't have to rebuy your old games to play them. You just put the DVD into your PS2 to play.
Looking forward to the Dark Cloud 2 announcement at PSX.
I'm sorry, I think I missed the part of your post that gives some context to what you're saying.People are delusional in this thread.
Completely different things and they cannot be compared to this situation.
I agree that disc-based emulation is improbable, but arguing based on Vita's lack of UMD drive is not fruitful.
I'm sorry, I think I missed the part of your post that gives some context to what you're saying.
There's no way Sony will do it the way MS did. They'll make you buy any PS2 game you want to play on your PS4.

Same with PS1 games on PS3, but they got that to work.
You can run PSX games on a toaster.
Why is it PS1 discs can be played on PS3 no problem, but it's improbable for PS2 on PS4? They're both using software emulation. There's literally no reason for discs not to be compatible at all.

I don't think it's a given, but it's not delusional to merely consider it a possibility until there's a confirmation. Sony has been responding to Microsoft's policies aggressively this generation, and in light of 360 BC on Xbox One I'd consider a disc option possible until Sony shuts the book on it definitively. I also think people are severely overestimating the impact disc compatibility would have on digital sales.Probably people thinking Sony is gonna give them disc support
Don't you mean your bat cowl? ;D I don't consider lack of disc support that iron clad, and I don't think the possibility is so far fetched. Remember, the reason PS3 dropped PS1 discs is because it made the hardware more expensive at a time when they were priced higher than the competition and taking a heavy loss on each console sold. Software based emulation doesn't pose the same problem. Again, doesn't mean it's a given, but I'm searching for strong reasons why entertaining the possibility is "delusional".I will eat my hat if there will be disc support. I think they will offer cross-buy between PS3/Vita/PS4 and I am fine with that.
Uh, Sony has been countering Microsoft every step of the way this generation. Hell, they were tap dancing on top of Microsoft's PR blunders before the generation started, they countered price drops even when PS4 was in a lead position, and they quickly added 3D Blu-ray support after MS announced it. Why shouldn't they care what MS does when they're fighting for the same audience and almost at a dead heat in NA month to month? And why should Sony care what MS did anyway ? As many have stated in this thread, this is NOT a reaction to the BC on Xbox One.
Why is it that PS2 disks can't be played on PS3, yet we know they can be?
If onlyAnd Dark Cloud 3, right?
Same with PS2.
Sony removing the feature doesn't mean that they can't implement it on their newer more powerful console.
They wanna charge you.
Why is it that PS2 disks can't be played on PS3, yet we know they can be?
And yet their track record since has not given any indication in that direction
They wanna charge you.

Me, too.I'm hoping for disc support
I know I'll probably be disappointed
They didn't announce it in any exciting or impactful way and I doubt it will be circulated very much until PSX. It's pretty clear that they just responded to it to stop the speculation. Why wouldn't you wait until PSX that is two weeks away to make this announcement? Dat marketing.

I hope Microsofs stategy for backwards compabillity influenced their decision.
