There's the hot rod, the shark and then a third. The other 'paints' are just mild recolors of the base skin (lead, military, etc).

Actually, I think there's an additional one for BoS armor that can't be applied to X-01? It has the BoS logo and junk.

I guess it depends on your stance on where a "mild" recolour ends and a new skin begins I guess!, and yeah, there is a BoS one as well.
 
When do you start running into hostile sentry bots? I have only seen one and it was about an hour after I got out of the vault, but it's friendly.

Not that I'm looking forward to seeing them. From what I've seen in videos, they're brutal as hell.
 
Came across a guy asking me if I want to buy a dog from him, but when I said yes he changed his mind and walked off. The dog looked like it was being treated badly, had marks and blood on its face and a chain around its neck. :(

Making Detailed Movements that Negate the "Snap-To" Feature:
Once you have the object selected you can hold the "X" button which allows you to move the object independent of the camera and the object will not snap-to any nearby objects while in this mode.

Adjusting Elevation while Negating the "Snap-To" Feature:
Once you have an object selected press and hold "X" and "L1" at the same time you'll be able to raise and lower objects while negating the snap-to feature, which helps when you're building walls on ground which slopes downwards.

Holy balls! I've spent a while doing side missions and avoiding the main story.
Suddenly Preston asks me to take back the castle. I figured it couldn't be too hard as he's asking early on. Nope. Fucking Queen mire lurker that only lost half health with a shot from a fat man, and a legendary mire lurker chasing me the fuck around. I was actually pretty close to winning but I was hit by the queen running from the legendary one.
 
Eh, I finally come around the NPC who sell a dog. I wanted her to go to Sanctuary hills but it seems there are to many people over there, so I send her to the Castle :( with dat Preston :(

Running from the legendary is what makes the
Queen
so difficult.

I ended up killing her and never killing the legendary.

What I did was setup 3-5 bottlecap mine and a few other mines right by the shore before
smashing the eggs
. My first time, I was pretty stupid shooting a fatman so close to me and died as a result. Other tries, I had to load my quicksave since the friendly AI were being too stupid charging up to the
Mirelurk Queen
and to where the mines are.

I had figured out some of that stuff on my own (most useful being the hold down middle mouse to shift items around), but I hadn't realized how useful foundations were.

Definitely would have helped setting up the walls I was building, but thankfully I haven't done much more than that in my settlements yet. Guess I'll tweak my Castle and Drive-In setups a bit more..

I ran into one after probably 15 hours. I didn't have anything strong enough to take it out beyond my fatboy :/. My only two nukes gone. He wasn't even guarding anything good either. But as soon as I approached him, he was after me. Are they usually friendly?

The mood changes in any extended conversations can be absolutely terrible. It really messes with the illusion of choice when characters jump from angry to happy and back again with no apparent regard for the earlier parts of the conversation.

They could've just replaced all the dialogue option captions with:
Up: What?
Left: LOL
Down: Yes
Right: Fuck off

The left options are the worst, since it's impossible to guess whether it'll be a bit of dark humour banter, or a nasty sarcastic insult.
The Bioware wheel is much better (and I'm not a huge fan of that).
Alpha Protocol did the "4-mood" options much better. I wish there was a "headslam" option. I'd like to try playing as a ridiculously aggressive "Tell me where my son is or die!" badass.

Definitely the biggest sticking point for me so far, and needs to be addressed for future instalments. There need to be actual choices in dialogue.

spooky, I thought there was a yao guai or sth, but when a level 61 deathclaw suddenly appeared I nearly shit my pants.

I've put in 81 hours and I still haven't gotten to
the Institute
lol. I've spent so much time building a base and crafting crap and just exploring around. I've only unlocked 500/1000GS also. So many things left to do... God bless you, Bethesda.

Yes I did buy the dog, and send her to the Castle. But the NPC who sold her was a cool dude, you need to
persuade him that you'll take good care of his dog (had to reload a couple of time, it's hard with low charisma)

i bumped into a legendary sentry bot in the northern part of the map, on Hard at lvl 13,
got wrecked by it for about an hour. and when i finally got the bastard after wasting two dozen stimpaks and a whole bunch of drugs, and went to loot it in pure elation, the fucking thing exploded in my face and i had to fight it all over again.

why?

lol, a good way to deal with those assholes is to try and get behind them and then VATS the hell out of their fusion core. instant detonation.
 
100 hours in and i'm at that point in bethesda games where i'm basically a god.
Thousands of every ammo type, 170 steampacks, 50 fusion cores. Stored all my food and meds, except for RadX and radayway.

Maybe i'm overleved for the stuff i've been doing though.
I'll mess with the survival balancing mod to see if i can make things challenging again.

I was wrong about the perks. You really can't spec in everything and builds do matter. There's a limited amount of content sans radial quests. 150 hours in and it feels like I'm scraping the bottom of the bowl for the rest of the ice cream.

I'm no good at melee or pistols or heavies or gamma guns, and my luck perks aren't too impressive. I'm not sure I want to run through with another character, but it feels like it may be worth it for a strength or ninja build. I feel like I made a mistake perking in non-automatic weapons, which are far and away the best firearms on the whole. That said, non-automatic shotguns are more fun.

Also, the double damage perk is clearly the best for any weapon, right? It does 100% more limb damage too, right? That sounds logical, but maybe limb damage calculated a little differently?

Is the "VIP escort" setting on protectrons weirdly bugged for everyone else? (I have a protectron who spawns into each map that I enter in a deactivated state).

after I died since I knew it was there placed nuka mines
triggered the creature coming and moved out of the way

I'm going to try again tonight. I only gave it a couple tries because the wife wanted to watch Walking Dead. I think Preston has my missile launcher. I'll need to see if I can still trade with him in the conversation before the attack. That would make it much easier. Otherwise, I'll just have to look for the best spot for those mines.

You need the perk in the charisma tree. After that, only your junk is exchanged between settlements, and not the items themselves but the material count. Aid, Misc, Ammo, Apparel, and Weapons will not be shared.

I am at the mission where - spoilers for choosing brotherhood:
I have to follow Liberty Prime
. I was wearing power armour (I died somehow) and have to restart but do I need to wear my power armour for it? It is a waste of fusion cores if its not a big battle.
 
WTF at the Markowsi Chem Lab. Its' location is a reward from a quest where you can get like a jillion drugs, and you even need to solve an puzzle to get inside, and it has like nothing of note in it. About as much chems as the average raider den. Weird way to end that quest when the stuff you get in the middle is about 100 times more valuable.
