To have the superior Chie voice. Come at me.
That's just like your opinion, man.To have the superior Chie voice. Come at me.
How big would it be if the PS4 could emulate PSP and Vita games?

Sony should put all eggs in their ps4 basket. The PS4 would be the ultimate machine. PSP, PS1, PS2 and of course PS4 games.
PSP yes.

That's one hell of a potential library. I know they say numbers show BC just isn't something people care about, but how can it not be an advantage to have that library available on one console? Unless the work put into it really would cost more than what they'd potentially make back.
Hold up a minute, do people actually like the new Chie's voice? That's the number one reason I have no interest in playing Golden.

This is a very promising glitch that we will see something soon.
The worst announcement would be that they have PS2 Backwards Compatibility and it will be launch at E3.

I think that's pretty unlikely. Everything points to MS having to alter the original games (I suspect they're recompiling the executables against x86 versions of the 360 libraries and putting up byte-swapped game data you have to download). Sony can most likely properly emulate the original version of the games without alteration, even the PS3 worked that way with PS2 Classics. So there's no need for publisher permission or downloading game data, the discs should just work, just like PS1 discs on the PS3, or even PS2 discs on PS3s that supported discs.Full PS1/PS2 classics support for digital and disc versions of existing classics, with Cross Buy.
This is the same as above, but with the XB! style disc as verification system from a white list of supported titles. As with the previous versions there could be a mix of variables including PS1 games and standard improvements.

But would the possibility of added trophies (perhaps as a requirement for the new Classics line) be the kind of thing that would require a publisher sign off? Would Sony just add the trophies themselves or could they possibly just omit trophies from some games where the publisher doesn't agree to adding them?
Trophies would almost certainly require publisher intervention at some level. When talking about disc support, I'm assuming either there won't be trophies, or trophies will be an extra DLC pack. The original game wouldn't need to be altered, but the publisher would still have to approve usage of the trademarks I'd assume.
I would gladly double dip on Dragon Quest VIII in 1080p.
I remember reading about the possibility of adding simple trophies in old PS1/PS2 games tied to loading areas. Are there any news?
So how does the VITA Star Wars games work? Is that being emulated?

hmm, that actually works for everyone. Hell, charge 99 cents for trophy packs and I would buy every time.
Blanket BC with the choice of trophies for some. Although, I know the games that I would want trophies for would never get an update.
You mean SSW? Looks like a port.
There have been a lot of suggestions as to what this could be and what might be included so I just want to list what I think the possibilities and variables are and see if there are any things I am failing to consider or over looking.
Worst Case Scenario.
Releases on a game by game basis with no cross-buy. A drip feed of games that will restart from scratch and require a purchase even if the game is available on PSN for previous systems. A slight variation here could be that maybe games have inconsistent trophy support and improvements.
Cross buy but nothing else.
The same as the worst case scenario, but in the case of games with previous PS1/PS2 classics releases you get the game free with crossbuy. The slight variable here could be perhaps a charge to upgrade for the improvements of the emulator.
Full PS1/PS2 classics support for existing classics, with Cross Buy.
The existing catalog of PS1/PS2 games is imported to the new service. They are cross-buy for owners of digital copies. The variable here could be whether or not they do both PS1 and PS2, and of course the previous variables of whether or not all games have standard improvements.

Full PS1/PS2 Disc and digital support aka GAMING VALHALLA.
This would be the best of all worlds. All PS1/PS2 classics are cross buy for digital and all discs are supported. The variables here could include those mentioned previously, but also perhaps region free game availability.
So, am I missing anything? Are there some possibilities not mentioned here? How likely do you think each scenario is?
I really hope they add PS+ cloud save support.
Same when they do PS1 emulation.
PSN classics are all region free, so I doubt that will change.Hades Hotgun said:So, am I missing anything?

It's very likely not possible to even find a source code for such old games anymore.
So wait, are you trying to say the VITA well have an emulator as well?
I don't think that there has been any new statement but the Eurogamer article in the OT says this (talking about the recently tested Star Wars games) :
"trophy support is added to the emulator - something we can confirm having unlocked one while playing Racer Revenge. On the face of it, this may seem to rule out emulation (trophies were never in the original games) - but this patent explains how it is done. Essentially, it seems the emulator tracks certain 'trigger' conditions required for specific trophies to activate - we expect that it is tracking the game state as you play."
Looks like we will finally get Wipeout on PS4... via PS2 emulation... hopefully.

Haven't really read up much on this...but what are the chances PS2 games get trophies?
That link is referring to Super Star Wars, a SNES game.
