Folks taking Kagari's comment seriously -dead-

I thought we all decided a long time ago that anything that isn't western and open world with guns and rpg elements isn't a real game

You forgot about being realistic and AAA

Wonder how much money they make with controllers.

They are expensive as fuck and everyone needs basically two of them because of the shitty battery life and really low quality.

I guess they cost Sony almost nothing to produce, margins must be extremely high. They probably make more money off a controller than a system.

My original DS4 battery sucks but I picked up an anniversary one and that lasts over 10 hours.

Nothing has changed since PS2. I was on a forum back then where people constantly said they couldn't understand the sales and all it was to them was a DVD player.

Amazing how nothing has changed in 15 years

And no not talking about Kagari's comment lol

I wish they'd stuck with their convictions though, just so we could see how it all went.

LOL, XB1 probably wouldn't have cracked 5 million at this point with their original "convictions." Phil Spencer was just saying a couple weeks ago that Gamestops manager were still saying that folks believed that the Xbox One couldn't play used games.

MS botched initial messaging with the Xbox One so badly, its a wonder the console has sold double digit millions.

It's almost depressing how poorly Xbox is doing.

I know a rabid idiot on Twitter that disagrees, says Xbox One will win the next 3 months on NPD, and will overtake in 2016. All because of "momentum" he observed on an Amazon Hourly chart last week, which he mistakenly on purpose thought was the November monthly chart. Yes, seriously!

In all seriousness, it is doing well if it existed in a vacuum. But it doesn't, and there is another console that is selling much better. So no matter what milestones XB1 achieves along the way, it will always be behind the PS4 and there will always be people that will remind you of that.

Does anyone know where Xbox 1 stands worldwide? Are we at 2:1 sold worldwide yet? I just remember last November, Xbox had "nearly" shipped 10 million. Where does it stand now or is that something we will never know anymore with Microsoft changing their metric?

PS2 = DVD player
PS3 = Blu Ray player
PS4 = Netflix machine

We should be at around 2:1 WW yeah, Xbox should be under 20 mil still

It took PS2 26 months to hit 30 million. PS4 did it in 24 months.

It also took PS2 seven months to release in NA. PS4 did it on day one.

If people want good comparisons to PS2, they should do launch-aligned comparisons for JP, NA, EU, and AUS sales.

All of that's not to say that PS4 isn't killing it, but it's killing it by squashing the competition.

My PS4 got good use last October due to Tales of Zestiria and Dragon Quest Heroes (a surprisingly decent game) but it won't get much use now until SO5 hits.

Not a SFV or UC fan ?

That is still not a good comparison since PS2 numbers were ship .
So they would have to use the same for PS4 numbers .

Well, just bought mine because of an early BF deal. No idea which games I should get though, since I already have a PC to take care of multiplats.

At least I can watch netflix on it. God damn you Atlus for that P5 delay.

Well deserved, congratulations Sony! It is by far the best console in offering and messaging this generation so I can't see the sales stopping.

I expect them to drop the price to $299 permanently and get the ball rolling even faster. PSVR may have 40 million user base potential by the time it releases. UK price could also be adjusted.

On the other hand, that matters less because Japan in general is nowhere near the sales monster that they were, so the rest of the world is picking up the slack elsewhere

One has to wonder whether the intense focus on sell-through might be intentionally crafted to hide the real performance trends.

Sure, but Japan was never NA and literally the entire Western market getting left behind for seven months puts a huge dent in early PS2 sales.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a roku or amazon fire stick? People are crazy

People bought PS2/PS3 as the cheapest/best deals for dvd/bluray. People buy PS4 to play games, but end up using it more for Netflix than anything else between exciting releases (or family members use it for Netflix).

So you use it for Netflix, but didn't buy it just for Netflix. Different but kinda the same.

I'm thinking so. Even if it is built off the system that's in place, last gen needs to go. I want 4-6 man fire teams at all times dammit

well they still made another COD for last gen so i dont put too much faith in them lol

but yeah an increased fire team count would be nice, kinda sucked being the odd man out

That bare bones release speaks volumes. It was a money grab. Likely a profitable one, but it didn't truly deserve to be called a real CoD release.

Well, I don't read too much into those numbers but damn, they are pretty impressive.

Console is great but first party software wise a letdown for now. So I really don't get how it's selling so much. Congrats to them anyways.
Next year it's going to explode

Because they started off the generation by not being an asshole that condescends their customers, and by encouraging developers and removing barriers for everyone to develop for their platforms.

It really doesn't take a lot of analysis to see why PS4 is successful. It started off as the console of choice and reinforced that with good will and a good price.

Meanwhile, Sony is building up their usual first-party heavy hitters for the stage next year and beyond. And it's not like this year was without good first-party games (Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Tearaway, Uncharted Collection) plus all the exclusive Japanese games coming out.

The marketing deals will increase as third parties will want to get into bed with the market leader.

Its also now no more of a surprise that they will want to push vr onto this huge audience they have if they reach their fiscal year target in March, that's almost 40 million ps4 owners they can market to for the vr headset.

No, I'll tell you what is though. Scrapping sales figures in replacement for "active membership subscription users". Alas Xbox One.

Damn and to think this is the sell through numbers. The 30 million for the PS2 was shipped and that was a time when Japan accounted for about a third of it and now only accounts for 2 million; Sony was on the ball to refocus the Western designers with Cerny and the launches first and foremost.

Ars has their article about it up, so can someone explain what this means

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/11/ps4-sales-officially-pass-30-million/

They have no fucking clue what they are writing regarding console sales and crazy projections. It does not matter if article was written by Kyle Orland or someone else.

What Anisotropic Filtering setting is 30.2m?

Trilinear :)

5m sold-through in 6 weeks? Yeah..no. ;)

US represents 1/3 of PS4 install base. So, if they manage to sell 1.7M in USA until end of the year [possible], total worldwide sales for that period should be a bit over 5M.

those are okay numbers. expected it to be 50 million at this point but beggars can't beg.
2016 needs to hurry up and release those games.
