Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

So even though I updated the billing (and shipping) addresses, BestBuy.ca sent my Bloodborne to my old address...in a city 2 hours away. I emailed them asking for a new copy, explaining that I was 100% sure I had changed my address.

Am I fucked?

If I remember correctly someone else in this thread had the same problem, they pretty much told him if the person at that address doesn't return it yes indeed you are fucked.

So, Amazon or Bestbuy for this preorder nonsense?

honestly I'm leaning toward best buy because FS always used to get me my games on release day at the latest, I'm assuming Best Buy will be similar. Who the hell knows when Amazon is going to ship something.

Best Buy has a shittier website but has more reliable shipping.

Amazon will let you edit and cancel orders easily but non prime shipping is piss.

Both places have different games up usually.

The answer is both.

Pretty much, I mean Best Buy is going to use whatever billing/shipping address you used at the time you created the order. If it went through and was shipped, you better hope and pray to go to that address and get it, try and reroute it in transit by tracking and calling whoever is shipping it, or hoping a Best Buy customer service rep takes pity on you. I think updating your info only changes it for your account, not necessarily for your orders? Then again, companies like Amazon only charge when they ship, and you can pretty easily edit addresses before.

It is crazy to me though how often some people move though. The other day I was speaking to a coworker who says she lived in like 5 different addresses in 3 years.

Has anyone ever had issues returning stuff bought via promo on Best Buy? I have a Quantum Break preorder that I got at 20% off (the other game I bought to qualify for 2 for 20%off has long since arrived).

Obviously, not super interested in it now that it's listed on Amazon and at 30% off.

BTW, while I'm not a big fan of shipping age (or even "I bought X" posts), it's nice to see some lists of games in here... helps me figure out what I might want to preorder

Sorry for the stupid question, but at work and can't seem to find a post explaining this. Can someone explain how or what they're doing to get promotional prices on existing Xenoblade SE preorders at best buy?

Best Buy is bundling the Mario Maker pin set free with Mario Maker, Smash, or Mario Kart 8 ($65-70).

Hmm, the prices are high, but looks like the button set has a potentially high resell value, cutting the price of the games by half. Might pick up MK8 and MM. Thanks for posting!

I didn't.

Me in bumfuck nowhere halfway between Sudbury and North Bay: Games show up the Monday before a Tuesday release at the latest, about 20% of the time show up on the Thursday or Friday before release. I got FE awakening like a week early or some shit when everybody else got it LATE due to weather.

Me in the northern part of Etobicoke, spitting distance from every distribution center: Games show up a day late at the earliest.

Seems everyone is having problems with WoW: Legion pre-order.
I just wanted to get that and Overwatch (though not sure I'd keep Overwatch, need another game to get 30% off).

Sad I'll miss out on 30% on that. Oh well I guess... $64.99 before tax for a WoW expansion hurts. Especially if it ends up as bare as WoD.

I called support. Told them about the order I had with that and Project Guard and I wanted to get a difference between the current 30% and the former 20%. They applied it. That's pretty much it. They said it was an exception so no guarantees.

Wow, didn't know this was possible. Gonna give it a shot tomorrow. Watch them cancel my order instead, lol.

The consensus at this point between BB and Amazon is...that there isn't one? This is the E3 sale come back to life so I'd like to take advantage in the best way possible.

BB Site is outdated garbage and barely works. Amazon site is great and you have individual control over cancellations, payment method, address changes, etc, even on partially shipped orders. Amazon customer service is also superior. Amazon's discount is also on the total so price drops on games will continue to get the full discount. BB's discount is applied to the price of individual games at time of order and you have to argue with them if there is a price drop on MSRP before release to get the full percent discount.

BB is significantly more reliable for shipping. They also have physical stores throughout the country. If you have one close to you, it's easier to return than shipping back to Amazon. With BB, you can also do the "buy on launch day and return shipped copy" thing if shipping is late.

Order based on what's more important to you.

I order based on availability and whether I want the game sooner or if I am okay waiting possibly over a week after release before it ships.

I think generally, Amazon is better since there is a chance it could randomly go lower and Amazon will adjust your price accordingly. It's how people are getting Xenoblade for $20. Customer service is way better as well, like the ability to cancel individual items without calling in.

The downside is that Amazon shipping sucks. Not that Best Buy is guaranteed to be better but it seems like people have better experiences getting games on release. Best Buy also has a couple games that Amazon doesn't right now. Not sure about the reverse.

That's really up to you. Amazon is much better because of their pre-order price guarantee + cancelling order online without calling them. The biggest drawback is their shitty shipping. On bestbuy, they pretty have every pre-order games on their store + they usually ship the item on time. The shipping between the two is definitely YMMV.

I find it pretty fucked up that we are being warned (here in this thread) that Prime members might get late shipping.

I'm sorry but if I pay for Prime I don't care how much of a discount they are doing, my shit has to get here as they advertise, on Day 1.

Non-Prime members yea, expect your stuff late but Prime members? Don't put up with it. You PAY for Prime.

I got my PS Gold Wireless Headset a little earlier and finally got a chance to test it out. Although not as comfy as my last pair, it works like a charm and is exactly what I was looking for. A closed set with a wireless adapter that I can easily use with my PC, and a detachable cord that I can use outside. I really wish I got 2.

Still waiting on Best Buy to process my order from this morning so I can cancel my original TP HD preorder. I assume their system is pretty slow today due to the sales.

Does anyone know if they charge your credit card when you checkout or when they ship the games since it's a preorder?

Both only charge when it actually ships unless they changed it recently.

Though BB requires you use a card that will not be expired by the expected release date when ordering.

So if I order two games that come out on different days, will it charge me the full amount when it ships the first one or only the price of the first one?

They will charge you for the one that only ships. So it's the first one only for the first one that ships and it will charge you for the second one when the second one ships.

I think I'm gonna make a backup order on Amazon for my Best Buy E3 2014 order even though it's going to be more expensive. Just in case when I have to change my address/CC and if something goes wrong I'll still have discounted games.

Roger that. Thank you.

I think I'll elect to go with Amazon. My BF has Prime, and hopefully that means we'll get faster shipping...

Are both deals only till midnight tonight?

On Amazon, it may depend on some things, but adding a pre-order to an existing one (Xenoblade/Zelda) seems to apply the 30% off automatically. I just added Fire Emblem to Xenoblade and 30% was taken off.

Well complaining here doesn't do anything. If your Prime orders are late, that's on Amazon CS. Not us.
