Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Things I'm looking forward to finding out:

1. Will save data carry over between episodes? What about people who buy episode 3 but not 1 or 2?

It'll carry over. If you don't carry over, it'll start you with some basic stats.

2. Will we be able to go back with our later / completed save datas to earlier locations?

Some of the major towns? Sure, why not. But some dungeons will probably be locked out once you are done them.

3. Will all episodes have to be released on PS4 before any of it comes to other systems?

First episode on PS4, then episode 1-5 day and date with other systems.

4. Will the battle music be unchanged?

Why would it be changed exactly?

5. Will the world map still be there?

Yeah. Remember, you don't get the airship for a long time, and the boat can't land everywhere regardless. So not expect being able to go to temple of ancients as soon as you leave Midgar.

6. Will "episodes" be released physically or digital only at first, with perhaps all of the episodes released on one disc at the end?

Both. I think each episode will be meaty. Not like some 5 hour walking dead crap. You'll feel like you got your moneys worth.

7. How will limit breaks like Bahamut Zero or Super Nova work?

You mean summons? You....summon them?

8. Will Advent Children costumes be unlockable?

DLC

My best guess.

word. so I'm assuming part 1 will come out Holiday 2016 and we won't have to wait indefinitely to play the FF7 remake. I'm fine with that.

meh...game looked awesome, and SE seems to be nailing the design and staying true to the original. For some reason, I'm not worried about this at all. I think they are going to flesh out certain scenes, adding dialog and effects and branching out the story. If this is a way for us to play the title say in 2017 instead of 2019, I don't see what the problem is?

Hype level is the same as it was when I first saw the gameplay, this is just something different, why do we all automatically assume different = worse?

Pessimistic lot you are...

Uh...so..so...what does this mean for retail?

Are you really doing the film thing and splitting the game up into pieces to be individually sold?

Will i be able to buy them all in a single disc??

Square-Enix could take the approach they're using for Hitman, and wait to release the game at retail until all the content is finished and released.

Have you not seen games like Arkam Knight, Witcher 3, and GTA 5? It's totally doable.

The witcher 3 is actually pretty comparable except for the part where it takes place in a country and ff7 has you going all over the world. You need to abstract that larger "world" travel vs local detailed areas.

This sucks to hear but is not unreasonable. When playing through FF7 again after the remake was announced, the question I kept asking myself is, "How the fuck will they fit all this in when HD development takes so much time and manpower?" If this is the answer then so be it.

People:

OPTION 1:
"Here is a remake , same scale as the original, just remade in HD but everything is pretty much the same, same cameras etc."

- WTF NOOOO I wanted a remake, not a remaster ! Give me a full 2015 version of the game, with the world and everything, but with modern gameplay and everything.

OPTION 2:
" Here is a Full remake of the game with new 2015 standard, better and improved gameplay, new mechanics etc; Since the game is so big, we'll split it up in episodes "

- WTF NOOOO I just want the game from 20 years ago but prettier on 1 fucking disc, is that so much to ask? Squareenix Sucks !!!"

OPTION 3:

Square Enix announces that the remake is cancelled because they read a Neogaf thread and feared for their lives.

This thing needs to be posted at the top of every page.

I'm actually okay with this. I don't see what the fuss is about

Whats the matter with multiple discs? I don't think anyone would be opposed to it.

Instead of doing separate releases and likely charging for each separate release... which is the assumption I'm taking based on the current info.

People still dont understand the scope of the full game in 3D of today. Most towns in this game was just 1 big drawing and you ran on top of it. now every house needs to be modeled etc.

That's really unacceptable reasoning. Then they need to constrain their ambitions to a proper scope that does the original justice.

Anyone want a Kingdom Hearts 1 remake with all the added lore from the rest of the series crammed into it?

I sure as hell don't.

Starcraft 2 did it well enough. Half-Life also did okay with it up until the point where they stopped releasing fucking episodes after a major cliffhanger.
Half-Life's episodes abruptly ending mid-plot was exactly what I was thinking of why this can be really risky though. I know people have been demanding a FFVII remake for eons now, but what happens if for some reason the budgeting doesn't work out and we're left with only half the game remade in episodes?

Haha, exactly what I thought. There was no way they could do the entire game at that kinda production level - It'll be super interesting to see how Squeenix will handle episodic content with an RPG.

and yet...you all will still buy it, much like how some of you have bought the original FF7 2-3 times already

Wait....so you're telling me this remake with new gameplay and presentation is going to be a different game than the original?

That's not the argument, a lot of people are happy with some of the changes. I really like the look of the combat.

The argument is that the changes are so drastic that they detract from what many feel was a core part of the experience.

Gaming in 2015: Everything you used to play but prettier. And Worse. And pay for it over 3 installments. After Battelfront's $189 package in Australia to get all the maps... Kinda not vibing this.

At least the game already had it's clear cuts... I guess end of disc one's event will leave us hanging and wanting more. I understand the breadth of content may necessitate it, but I'd honestly rather wait till 2018/2019 to get the whole thing.

Personally, I'm gambling on SE just making a franchise of this. Multiple $60 releases every few years that dive deep into individual sections, and maybe link up in the grand scheme to make one experience that could never work as a singular retail release.

This is what I take it as. I seriously doubt it's going to be episodic on the sense that we've seen in games like the walking dead and life is strange.

I bet people would pay 60$ for episode if the call it FF7 Remake 1, FF7 Remake 2 and so on like the WSJ guy is saying.

If they're each on a similar scale to FFXIII that justifies the $60 then yeah... people will. This won't be episodic in the same sense of a Telltale game or Life is Strange, it's "episodic" like FFXIII or FFX or the .hack PS2 games judging by the WSJ Reporter's phrasing and further explanation.

The power of neogaf.

What difference does it make? If you want a complete package just wait till all episodes are released and buy it all at once. All this means is that parts of the game will be playable early for people who want to play parts of the game early. The only sucky thing is that we'll have to pay maybe a $100 for the full thing but whatever, even that is worth it.
