Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Whats the matter with multiple discs?

I don't think anyone would be opposed to it.

Read my post.
It is a big deal.
With the game being episodic, we fear the we won't be able to see the overworld. It'll be more linear as you won't be able to go back to the previous episodes/parts. As the press release said, each part will be a unique experience.

I don't get people who are fine with this.

I was happy with the remake until I heard this news. I understand that things get to be modernised and changed, that's the point of the remake. And I was pretty happy with the combat I saw so far.

But some things are core to the experience and just shouldn't be changed (eg the music). Completely overhauling the structure of the game goes against its genre. It's like remaking The Thing as a romantic comedy. It just doesn't work.

It's nothing like that at all and I'm sorry you can't think rationally due to this response, as demonstrated by that example.

I'm just gonna hope and pray that multi-part just means they're gonna split it up like the discs and bring out "disc 2" a few months after "disc 1" comes out

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
And to think that I praised this company to the skies just a few hours ago.

She seems conscious of the floating text.

You just blew my mind...

I'll probably wait to get this when everything is completed, because you know there's going to be a "Complete Edition" or whatever anyways.

rabble rabble...foot shootings, etc.

Final Fantasy VII - Episode Midgard

You finally step out of Midgar and stare at the beautiful distance. A huge overworld stretches as far as the eye can see, rendered in perfect HD graphics. Your characters look stoic and prepared. Ready for a new adventure.

"To be continued in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Part 2".

FUUUUUUUCK.

Then you have to wait 6 months for the next episode. You finally download it, start it and...

Your characters immediately start at Kalm. You cannot leave the town. Cloud comments on how amazing it was to get there, to fight the monsters, to see the creatures, to see the hills and plains.

I really don't get all this drama, we know nothing about the number and content of the episodes yet. FF7 can really easily be split in several separate parts without limiting the gameplay.

They'll probably manage to fuck it up anyway.

Episodic, huh? Well, if the quality and gameplay is top then I don't particularly mind. I just hope the wait isn't long per episode.

Also, I think people are overreacting too much, we don't even know enough details, lets calm down and wait for more information to trickle first.

I guess I'm supposed to be upset about this?

If they're making two or more games that are going to look like that trailer they showed, and they're all normal length games (which I assume would be the case), I can't see why I'd be upset.

Now if this means we get 1 20-hour game every 3 years or some bullshit like that, then I'd be annoyed. But this? This just seems like good news for anyone who wants more FF.

Ridiculous. Make it one disc with a massive patch download. Won't be the first game and certainly won't be the last. Just don't release it in episodic sequences.

This news hit me like a truck.

Is there any way that VII can be split logically into a 3-part series? I'm thinking of Final Fantasy VI and how it's basically two games in one with a logical split in the middle. I can't think of anything like that for VII, except maybe the end of Disc 2.

Square could release this game in ten hour episodes over the course of five years at sixty dollars a pop and FFVII fanboys will still buy it. They know what they're doing.

I think what bothers me most about it is the different experiences per episode. I certainly hope that means not different types of gameplay per episode.

Sounds like they are doing it like the Hack series.

Will be interesting how they handle it like where they stop, plus the inevitable PR later

predictions:

-the complete package will still be on a far smaller scope than the original ff7
-each episode will vary in quality and will be farmed out to various teams
-optional side quests and exploration will be close to non-existent
-no overworld or transition between the locations of each episode
-there will be no finite number of episodes, with various side stories or EU filler being brought in if sales are good
-if sales are bad, the story will be massively abridged with production values significantly dropping
-character progression will only exist on a micro scale, with each episode effectively being mechanically standalone
-the first episode will leave an optimism that the rest will sorely fail to live up to

These are my greatest fears for the remake with this news. If they don't drastically abridge I'm fine with it, but this does seem to open some worrisome doors. And I've never liked episodic content...

Enjoy paying $180 for the entire FF VII Remake and remember, you begged them for this!

I expect this to be like StarCraft 2, where each title is $60, and if they release 3 games, that's $180.

if its like Mass Effect where you transfer your save between games and they add a fuckton more content to make up for it ill be ok
otherwise what in the actual fuck

Things I'm looking forward to finding out:

1. Will save data carry over between episodes? What about people who buy episode 3 but not 1 or 2?

2. Will we be able to go back with our later / completed save datas to earlier locations?

I would imagine that no matter how they release the episodes they'll make the experience of playing the whole thing from start to finish feel like one continuous game as much as they can. Carrying save data over in particular is a no-brainer, as is letting you go back to areas that aren't part of the episode.

And just like, I go from crazy excited to no longer caring nearly as much. Shit.

I'm actually considering waiting to see if they make a PC version now. Hoping that when they make a version for the other possible platform that all parts will be finished already and I won't have a long extended wait, like waiting on a TT episodic game such as The Walking Dead Seasons. When a TWD game comes to another platform all parts are usually ready and included.

:\

The one good thing is that my hype is in a very good place now that I won't really be anticipating and counting the days until it's released.

Not really just due to the lack of information. This really isn't something you just drop and don't go into detail on. When we have a clearer picture of how it will be handled then perhaps.

Why are we assuming it's three parts? And yes it's doable.

I honestly can't think of a worse twist. Episodic games are a format I just don't get. It's like tease after tease that draws out the experience losing engagement with each release.

Here's hoping it's not as I'm envisioning it.

You can't be serious. Those aren't even fair comparisons.

Why not? Even Xenoblade Chronicles X which i guarantee you is bigger than anything in FF7 is one disk. what About MMOs like WoW which has a massive world that will dwarf anything in FFVII. Don't make excuse for this BS.

Seems like a big risk on square's part. Sure they have The chance to get it out quicker at a lower price and still end up with a greater potential revenue, but they're going to be committed to making all three parts of the game and if the first one sucks it's going to be hard to sell the second one etc.

They must have pretty high confidence in the quality. Or very low confidence in the production values.

All in all this doesn't upset me.

How so? Most areas besides Midgar is not that big in FF7 and most of Midgar you can't even explore. Every little house you go in is tiny. Outside of the over world the game is not that big.

So I'm guessing this means there won't be any large sidequests or a world map? How is backtracking going to work with the game spread across 3+ episodes?

Say I'm at Junon and I need to go back to the dig site or something for an item.

PLEASE INSERT FFVII-4

Would the old disk even know about this new side quest anymore? They'd have to make sure everything was perfectly planned out and programmed in advance (unless they want to do some major patch work later on).

The original PSX game was done across 3 disks, but each disk essentially had the entire world on it so there was no mid-area switching.

It would be cool if I could stay optimistic, but this is the company that mismanaged Versus XIII so badly (for nearly 10 years) that they basically scrapped everything and completely rebranded it and the company that released an MMO so bad that they had to make a public apology about it and canonically destroy the first iteration.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Well SE's previous CEO Wada did mention they'd like their games to be episodic in the future. Didn't think they'd apply it to FFVII ;.;
