Ultimately my only expectation is that it'll be better than the shitty prequels. I really don't see how it can be worse. Not expecting an amazing film or ESB-quality stuff. We'll see.
 
Looking forward to the impressions from tonight's viewing.

I've got the rest of the week off after tomorrow so I'm going all out for Star Wars this week in anticipation of seeing the movie on Sunday morning.

I'll post it below and again theres no movie spoilers, just some cool lore behind the design of Ren's saber but I'll have to consult GAF's Lore Expert to know more. lol
The book mentions the design of Kylo Ren's lightsaber is ancient dating back thousands of years to The Great Scourge of Malachor. Malachor was first mentioned and featured in KOTOR 1&2...I haven't played KOTOR 2 since it was released but I think that was the wrecked planet you go to at the end and also had some lore around it involving Revan.

That's neat, and having seen the page confirms a few things. According to the wiki the planet is canon since it was mentioned in a Clone Wars episode, as for the event that seems to be the first mention of it. So it could be nothing, or it could be that they are going to explore that era at some point.

Before people get excited though what it doesn't mean is that any of that era has become canon, and if it does will be a retelling of it most likely under the new story group, they aren't going to bring back any of the existing material or suddenly make the games canon.
 
I'm just enjoying the ride right now because even if the movie is very good it won't take long before people start picking it apart and coming up with reasons why it sucks

Seems to happen to almost every major release nowadays unless it's Mad Max

Oh It'll happen. Some people have hyped themselves beyond belief for this movie. No way it lives up to unrealistic expectations. But yea people will start to post their impressions after today no doubt.

The Tumblr crowd is already pretty upset with TFA but I'm not entirely sure why.
 
I don't give a fuck about reviews or other opinions. I remember at the time critics saying how good ep1 was and I thought it was shite.

I'm 100% sure I'm going to enjoy it. He did a fantastic job on the last two Star Trek movies.

This is me. No one's opinions will dissuade me if I legit enjoy the movie.

I will say if the impressions come out and they are relatively positive it's hard to not ignore those and hype yourself up even more.
 
I think I'm getting the Visual Dictionary for Christmas. It's like a tradition. I have the OT one and then the individual prequel ones plus the Complete edition.

I think I only have the Complete Locations and a few of the individual Incredible Cross-Sections. Those books were like my life.
 
Does anyone remember the ~1996 Guide to the Expanded Universe from Del Ray? I used to read that thing over and over and over again.

(Does that expire at 12:01 EST or PST - I can't seem to track that down).

I've ordered the new one as well. My old ones are a bit battered from constant reading when I was a kid, but they're still in one piece. Just about.

I couldn't not buy the one for this film.

I'll read a few of them. People should keep in mind that in less than 12 hours more of this movie could potentially be revealed so be careful.

As will I. I will be interested in seeing the Vibe coming out of the premiere tonight. I know that Slashfilm is going to be there among others. So we should definitely at least have a vibe late tonight.

Same. It feels great to be getting all this stuff again. I bought a couple Black Series figures and the Visual Dictionary. I might as well be 10 again and it's great.

Premiere is tonight. So no doubt impressions will be out later tonight. There is an embargo on reviews though. I think tomorrow critics/press see the movie so reviews will start to trickle in Tuesday night Wednesday morning.

I already accidentally clicked on the spoiler thread once, and before realizing where I was I read a major spoiler. I'm not sure if that particular spoiler was a joke, however. So, with that uncertainty, the spoiler doesn't matter and my eagerness to see this movie hasn't decreased a bit.

I'm pretty conscious what Star Wars related thread I click on since then, however.
