Final Fantasy VII PS4 |OT| One last time before the remake

By the way, what is everyone's party setup? Mine consists of the original three, Cloud, Barrett and Tifa. Cloud is the all arounder, focusing on melee, and of course he has some attack magic like Lightning and summon. Barrett is my tank, and I give him Cover as well as Enemy Skill. Later on in the game I usually set him up with some really high HP increasing Materia as well as Ribbon or whatever will give him negative stat defense. He is my true tank. Tifa is of course a fighter, but she also gets some healing magic. I actually share the healing magic between her and Cloud. One thing about FF VII that I like, that I never used to pay attention to, is how much you can customize Materia and each character's role in battle.

Cloud with Cover, HP+, and Long Range materia so I can keep him in the back row.

Tifa is my main attacker. She sports my Fire/Ice/Bolt stuff magic, as well as my main melee damage. I dump all my Luck sources into her for extra crit chance.

Yuffie is my catch all. I keep her in the back row, Give her E-Skill, Cure-All, and Life, as well as whatever my most recent 2 summons are.

Edit: Also put Poison+Added Effect on Tifa's weapon so she can poison as she attacks. I don't use a lot of All Materia.

That was a clutch Hi-Potion against Rufus there. :p
lol..

ty

definitely got lucky there after i had already settled with restarting from my last save point

You can turn up the battle speed in the Config menu, if you want.
might do that later when i'm more comfortable with the controls and knowledgeable of mechanics but for now am enjoying the "thinking time" the default setting allows

That's cool, it was fun to watch you playing the game for the first time. People know the game so well at this point, usually when I watch LPs or streams it's just vets flying through, already knowing all the tricks and where everything is.

I always use Tifa and Cid. Tifa for story reasons, and Cid because he's fucking Cid.

I remember this commercial, lol

The vibes were totally....suggestive.

Extended version on Youtube is amazing XD

Yeah, I just CANNOT get the bromance to work. I can't even get Barret to ask Cloud out? In fact, I never once got it to work in all my old palythroughs of the game.

I tried to make sure I shot down Tifa and Aeriths at ever turn. I even used the 'glitch' for Barret points but even after using it 6 times, it's still Aeriths. I know you can break the trophy if you use it too much, but I can't even get it work.

I didn't see any guides for how the numbers work either. Is there an actual number for Barret points I can't go past?

Question.

When grinding limit breaks is it final blows in a battle or number of enamies killed?
For most characters, the second Limit Break for each Limit Level is acquired by using the first Limit Break of that Level a certain number of times (8ish). The first Limit Break of a new Limit Level is usually achieved by a certain number of last-hits kills on enemies.

For someone like Cait Sith, where he only has two Limit Breaks, you have to use Dice a certain number of times and get a certain number of last-hits and you unlock Slots.

Like, Cloud learns Cross-Slash after using Braver 9 times, then learns Blade Beam after 120 last-hits, then learns Climhazzard for using Blade Beam 7 times.

You can learn Blade Beam before learning Cross-Slash if you last-hit 120 enemies before you use Braver 9 times.

When will people accept the true OT3 of Aerith/Cloud/Tifa? Or DoC continuing the other one true love of Cloud/Tifa/Barret?

By the way, what is everyone's party setup?

I always used Barret, Cid or Yuffie with Cloud because I was awful at Tifa's and Cait's limit breaks. Now there are trophies on the line, I'll have to get good. Sigh.

2nd limit in a level - use the first limit X (usually 6-10) times.
1st limit in next level - kill X (usually around 80, except for Cloud, where it's like 120/200) enemies.

Easiest way is to learn Matra Magic and head to the Mythril Mines by the Chocobo Ranch. Near the Junon exit you'll often fight groups of 3-5 enemies. Makes levelling limits a cakewalk.

As for party set-up, Cloud/Cid/Tifa for me, all the way.

You get +3 affection for every time you use the glitch. I did it around 18 times and got the trophy without ignoring Tifaeris.

I recommend having a save before you enter cosmo the first time in case.

I like to use certain people in certain areas for story purposes, or just keep them in because it felt righ again for general story stuff. So I used to use Aeris and Tifa. Aeris back row magic and Tifa physical and Cloud hybrid spellsword. Don't need a tank in this game since it's so easy

But in the end characters are all very similar bar limits and ultimate weapons. Tifa was one of my favourites because if you were good at her Limit (is it me or is Tifa's limit harder to do in the PS4 version?) it did the best single target damage out of everyone by far until you eventually got Omnislash and/or Highwind. Well at least until you hit the cap at 9999. Tifa's problem is Premium Heart is pretty bad and unlike other FF games you can't use stuff like 4-Cut or whatever when the Limit bar is active. So yeah Tifa is important and I find the best character until end game where she promptly gets shot. Sure God Hand + Deathblow + Added Cut is nice, but the lack of slots hampers her and she still isn't as powerful as other party member's weapons.

Yuffie is a nice character to use. Long range weapons are nice and her limits are pretty good for most of the game. Bloodfest and later Doom of the Living work really well. It's a shame her final Limit All Creation is really bad by simply being a single hit. Powerful maybe, but only 1 hit. I usually learn All Creation and leave her on Lv 3 and use Doom of the Living. What makes her good is she has the best final weapon in the game. not only is it more powerful depending on the strength of the enemy, it's vital for the Morph ability since unlike everyone else she doesn't take out massively reduced damage. I'd hate to try and get additional Ribbon's without her weapon, and she makes ridiculously easy Power Source farming if you feel so inclined (1 every 15 seconds with 3x speed!). Also her weapon is one of the ones you just simply use. No faffing around with healing HP/MP, maintaining limit gauges or equipping high AP Materia and so on. Just equip it and done

Cid is the only other character I seriously use. He has a bit of an unfair advantage over the other's in that not only does he get a Triple Weapon, but he also get a powerful double weapon with more slots than other people as well. His weapon is strong and MP is easy to maintain. Not a fan of his limits at first but Highwind is awesome once you learn it. It's why I usually use Tifa until later in the game when he takes over.

So Tifa and Yuffie, then swap Cid in for Tifa later. The other characters:

Vincent is a good character overall stat wise. he gets good weapons, his final weapon is actually the strongest if you decide to max it out. But his Limits are beyond awful since you lose control of him. instant deal breaker and shot straightaway.

Barret is pretty good. He's physically strong and makes the best "Tank" in the game if you want to go that route since he can also drop back, but that isn't really necessary. He gets a good AoE limit early on and Angermax is pretty good (no longer Ungarmax. Didn't notice straightaway!) I can't be bothered setting up his weapon for the max damage so I never really use him late on.

Red is pretty good at first. It's his limits I find that hold him back later on. Howling Moon can be a life safer if you keep him alive against a strong boss and you're not sure how to set up properly. But ultimately Cosmo Memory is just as bad as Yuffie's All Creation but he lacks her weapon capapbility. he has the Same weapon as Cid, but lacks his Limit capability. he doesn't quite cut it.

Despite playing this game numerous times, I don't think I've ever used Cait Sith ever more than I have to. His weapon is the same as Clouds so he might be powerful. never took him seriously though.

Ultimately you can use whoever. FFVII like most Final Fantasy games are pretty easy. It's also very friendly in how the other characters level up so you can swap in people whenever you want unlike a lot of other games where you might feel reluctant to use someone else since they are so many levels behind. So generally just use the party members you like or swap anyone in for story purposes. But for an optimal party multiple hits is key. A very powerful single hit is still only one hit. That's why Limits such as Cloud's Meteorain is really good before getting replaced by the absurd Omnislash, why Tifa's Limit Break with all Yeah's is miles more powerful than anything until you get either Ultimate Weapons or Omnislash (you can even afford to miss a few or get normals), Highwind, Angermax and Doom of the Living are so good. You only need enough power to hit the cap, and then it's just a matter of who or what hit's more times.

But use who you want :P

I got through the Don Corneo part today and lmao... they are definitely changing a lot of the dialog (maybe even complete parts) in the remake.

I have a question for those of you who played the Steam release of the game.

Did you play it with a controller? If yes, which? I'm trying the 360 controller and I cannot use the D-pad. I would like to, because using the stick to navigate the menu is frustrating. I cannot play the whole game like this. I also do not want to use the keyboard.

But use who you want :P
The reason i do Barret as a tank is more from having fun with customization. I never used to care and would make everyone jack of all trades but i find it more fun to have people focus on certain traits. The game is easy but you can definitely make it more challenging, say, by limiting grinding or even random battles for the most part since we have the no battles option. That would make for a nice harder challenge and make the strategy more important.

Yeah I like messing around with Materia customisation. I never really did it seriously until I got the PS1 Classic on PS3. Beforethat it was a jack of all trades in general. It helped that i finally found that stupid Added Cut in the Snow place! I discovered things like Vincents and Tifa;s guaranteed Hit rate weapons (God Hand and Supershot ST?) So Deathblow + Added Cut became fun to use, especially if combined with something like Hades + Added Effect. I took Elementals more seriously be it offensively or defensivly against things like Beta, Trine and whatever, as well as the various HP and MP absorbs on Magic/Summons

I made a point in not using Mime or abusing the W-Item cheat several playthroughs ago. It's when i discovered Master All sells for a lot so it was still easy to buy Sylkis Greens. There's a lot of hidden depth to the Materia system that pretty much goes unused by like 90% of the player base. Making the game harder and giving it more of a challenge may have elevated the game in a critical sense amongst a lot of gamers since it would require more strategic thinkng. But at the same time it would also have made it too hard for a lot of people including my younger 9 year old self, and FFVII probably wouldn't have became such a phenomenon it was if it wasn't as accessible. Shame though since the Materia system can be incredibly creative. It's only as generic as you let it be.

Man I'm at the
parade at the harbor
and just stopped for the night.. Is there a good place to check to make I don't miss anything (i.e. Materia or weapons)?

I remember when I was little and got most Materia but know I missed some. More specifically Odin I think.. What ever was on the island where you need a special chocobo.. Never could figure it out as a kid.

Final Fantasy VII ~ Trophy Guide and Roadmap

I'm using that guide to make sure I don't miss stuff for the platinum.

And I think you mean Knights of the Round, which is a trophy in itself too. You need to breed a Gold Chocobo to reach that island in order to get it.

...I never knew there was a Kills requirement for Limit leveling ;p Beat this game maybe 5-6x.. I mean, I bought a PSX just for the demo CD and basically played it for months when it released. But I just never ever looked up a FAQ to see how Limits work lol Never really had internet access to FAQs when it released but even later, I just sort of always let Limits naturally level.... Most of the stuff in the game I sort of naturally just found myself back in the day, I think I mostly just used FAQs for Enemy Skills or stealing rare items (e.g. Hard Edge). But last night was first time I actually ever bothered to check the FAQ on Limits haha cuz I never ever bothered to learn Great Gospel before... No wonder my Aeris has never leveled up her limits in all the years haha I wasn't getting her kills (I didn't really care but I always tried to level her up a bit on the side hehehe).

Red XIII was always on my team, no question. The other member would be Vincent if I was feeling patient, or Cid if I wasn't. I seriously hope Vincent isn't the worst battler on the team again in the remake.

Does anyone have tips for Chocobo breeding and racing? trying to get a gold one so I can get Knights summon and Vincent's level 4 limit break.

My C class good chocobo has not won a single race yet out of the 12 its raced...

just check out a strategy guide, like one on Gamefaqs. they outline everything you need to do to efficiently and effectively get that fucking Gold Chocobo.

oh yeah, how are you racing the bird anyway? i always use manual controls and speed boost the whole race. if you hold R1+R2+L1+L2 the stamina bar continually regenerates.

Oh I had no idea the stamina bar continuously regens. But either way, in manual control, I can't steer the damn thing. It doesn't like me or something. I gave it some greens and still doesn't really listen.

I decided to shake things up and go with Vincent this time around. I got him early enough so that I wasn't attached to other characters. It will be fun maxing him instead this time. Fighting the monster in the safe was tough, because he was one shotting my characters, but I decided to cheat and make it through.

ok people lets get one thing straight here, SE never canonized a specific couple, and have always maintained a positon of, the player is the one that decides who cloud loves, all we have is confirmations about the feelings both girl have for cloud, and yes Aerith really does love cloud more than Zack, zack is still a very special person to her, but the one she truly loves is Cloud, and this has already been more than confirmed multiple times, from the novels and ultimanias

Also, some of you seem to want ro make some kind of connection on the end of AC that Aerith and Zack showing up at the church is some kind of romantic thing when all it is, and from the roles they have in the movie, is all about helping cloud

the highwind scene is also something optional with very different contexts, that depends on wether you went with tifa options, to get it or not

It should steer ok in manual, just left right always go into corners and use [ ] and X to change speed.
If you get within the middle of the flock it doesn't respond well due to other birds, so try to get out and pass them even with turbo if needed.

Stamina bar regen is a cheat that can be used to make the thing easier, didn't really remember it.

One more trophy to plat(Finish the game). Bought the game right after PSX as it's only $10 so why not. Never thought that I'd really enjoy the game even with the old graphics(PSX '14 rage lol). The materia system is still really good, X3 speed option made the game moves much faster and made grinds manageable.

Is Ruby harder than Emerald? Lots of tries with Ruby until I managed to down him but Emerald only took a couple of tries.

Why deathblow when you could use Yuffie + Conformer + x4 cut to slam 9999 x 4 on almost all enemies. Master summon grinds much faster with this girl in the party.

Does anyone have tips for Chocobo breeding and racing? trying to get a gold one so I can get Knights summon and Vincent's level 4 limit break.

My C class good chocobo has not won a single race yet out of the 12 its raced...

Feed that guy with 5 greens(the more expensive between two greens) obtained from chocobo sage and watch it flies to finish line in auto mode.

Weird. I got the Chocochampion trophy after doing a Chocobo Racing Bet (which I lost) in Gold Saucer... Did this happen to anyone?
