This one "OK" review is already making me worried about the internet's reaction.

I'm hyped as fuck for this movie, but that's for the chance to get to see a new Star Wars in cinema that might not suck. It's not going to be the original trilogy, hell even the original trilogy has it's downsides, but as soon as we see more reviews and as people get to see the movie the insane nitpicking and arguing and dogpiling is going to be bloody ridiculous.

"Oh this wasn't like the originals."
Because it's not the friggin' originals.

Enjoy it for what it is guys, I believe it's gonna be a pretty damned good movie.

EDIT: (My last post said I would leave this thread until I see the movie tomorrow night, but I wanted to vent)

26 hours!

I'm not expecting anything complex, deep or thought provoking. I just want some nice visuals, nice sounds, and great characters. It sounds like it'll deliver.

The OT is vastly overrated imo. This movie might just take the cake for me personally.

Yes as far as films go if we had seen these movies as we are today I agree. The magic of Star Wars is how as children it fueled our imaginations and our nerd love it was our first taste of fandom. For me it was magic.

I don't need it to be THE best movie ever just make me feel like a kid again and please feel like Star Wars

I worry about this too, like people act like the OT was all deep and thought provoking and will be expecting that from TFA.

I won't necessarily say overrated but I know what you guys mean. People that are watching the movies for the first time in anticipation for TFA don't get that same feeling for those of us that watched them as kids. I think you had to grow up with it to really get that feeling from them. They're fun movies about jedis, lightsabers, star fighters and space battles and whatnot.

I'm not sure what it needs to have to "feel" like Star Wars, but I hope it does too.

Some more tweets from Devin Farci

"I love General Leia."
"I love Rey."
"I love Han Solo and Chewie."
"I love Finn."
"I love Poe Dameron."
"I love Kylo Ren."

I would put a link but he has a kinda big spoiler at the top. So avoid.

Seems to me like he just felt the story was shallow, and maybe to him that is what makes and breaks a movie. Which in my opinion is a SW trait. SW has always been a character driven affair.

Good news, even the most negative review (which would possible still be a fresh on RT) is not saying we have another AOTC Anakin situation on our hands.

I don't see Kylo Ren on his love list. FUCK!

Waiting for the wrong pre-made tweet: "The Force Awakens is the summer flick we've all been waiting for! People are still shouting Heil Hydra!"

So the movie has its red carpet premiere, numerous brief impressions come out, and people fixate on one that doesn't give the film a clear 10/10.

If this review (which you have no particular reason to believe or disbelieve) has this much power over you, then it's time to step away from Star Wars threads for a few days and form your own opinion on the movie when it comes out (good news, you don't have long to wait!).

Joseph Gordon Levitt wins again.

Rainn Wilson's didn't suck, either.

What if Sakurai spoils Star Wars in the stream? Didn't think of that, did you?
Considering Sakurai's track record that wouldn't be much of a surprise.

Challenger approaching: Luke Skywalker

"His Final Smash is based on an iconic scene from The Force Awakens, in which Luke reveals himself to be Kylo Ren before killing his twin sister, Leia."

Faraci makes it sound it doesn't have many new ideas which is very disappointing

That seemed obvious. That's why they brought back the original cast and everything, the movie is a passing of the torch in a lot of ways. I am sure episode 8 and 9 will explore a lot of new things. The spin offs already are from what we know, complete different characters and scenarios.

My biggest concern was that TFA was gonna do too much mirroring of ANH, and apparently that came true, sigh. Still excited to see it for myself.

And knock it the fuck off with this, "anyone I disagree with is a hack" bullshit. It happens in every review thread and it's almost always pathetic.

I don't think it's obvious it could have passed the torch without being a repeat. Oh well I'm still going to give it a chance

Agree. So much confirmation bias/denial going on here. You might like the movie, you might not. Don't make your mind up before you see it and then find fault with every review that disagrees

So... We dont have another Phantom Menace Situation?

Is there a gif of the one scene in a new hope were everyone runs to lukes X-Wing after he destroyed the deathstar, cheering in ectasy? I need this.

Yeah, people need to chill. I mean there's people around who hate Mad Max: Fury Road. While I believe they would benefit from some time in a mental institution, they have a right to their opinions.

Just a little bowled over to be standing here at ground zero for the world's collective response to the new Star Wars films (for better or worse). Soon we will all know what these signs & symbols mean and will be debating then freely amongst ourselves. Tomorrow night ... Fucking hell.

Guys, I never watched the prequels, will it be fine if I skip them and watch this?

The prequels largely serve to fill in the backstory of characters that are already dead by the end of the original trilogy. You'll be fine without seeing them.

This thread is going to be toxic :D

Yep, my friend hated the movie because he thought it was feminist propaganda, lol.

Watch the prequel trilogy but not the George Lucas originals. Try the Hal9000 fan edit cuts (version 3) - Ep 1 Cloak of Deception, Ep. 2 The Approaching Storm, and Ep 3 Labyrinth of Evil. They make allot of the characters much less whiny or annoying while still maintaining a good flow as a movie with really well done cuts (90 minute fan edits are too rushed). They fixed allot of the flaws in the movies IMO but I don't want to go into spoilers. To download the fan edits, you need to own the Star Wars Blu-rays as a part of an honor code, but the fan edits can be gotten via typical means (torrents, etc).

I just recently tried watching them, imo don't bother. The first two are really bad.

I guess i'll skip them, thanks.
And jrcbandit, I never watched fan made stuff like that, are they really better than the originals?

I'm watching the despecialised versions of the OT, I'd watched the OT last year but I don't think I paid attention as I can't remember anything.

ANH is quite dull, feels like they're just going round corridors for most of the movie

in the middle of ESB and it's great fun, everything's dialled up, I love Yoda, Darth Vader is fab
