ANH is quite dull, feels like they're just going round corridors for most of the movie

I agree to some extent, but that is only the second half of the movie. The first part really shines IMO with Luke losing his family and meeting Obi-Wan (very powerful moment).

The second part can be a bit dull, but is greatly saved by the characters and the chemistry between them (e.g. banter between Han and Leia).
The ending space battle is also pretty cool and makes up for the mostly lame Death Star part.

Personally I feel that the "escape from the Death Star" Millennium Falcon vs. TIE battle scene in ANH is the best scene in the entire series. Certainly the most inspired editing in the whole franchise.

I barely even realised he had lost his family. Had to rewind to catch the moment when that happened

they were all dicks anyway

Yep, my friend hated the movie because he thought it was feminist propaganda, lol.

I don't think he will enjoy Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It's hilarious how fast he gets over his Aunt and Uncle's deaths, but he's only truly known Ben for around a day in total and it reigns over him for the rest of the film.

I guess i'll skip them, thanks.
And jrcbandit, I never watched fan made stuff like that, are they really better than the originals?

It made the prequel trilogy watchable to me again. I really hated the prequels (other than episode 3) before this. Poorly done fan edits can be very jarring with their cuts, but Hal9000 does a very professional job - the only time it is noticeable is when he re-inserts a deleted scene of inferior video quality to help the flow of the movie.

Ep. 1 had some very annoying characters and the Hal9000 edit makes one of them more like an everyman alien who gets caught up in things and just makes a few goofy mistakes while in the original his character made me want to gouge my eyes out with his constant ineptness and poor attempts at humor. The kid in episode 1 was also made much more tolerable without annoying yippie, whining, and made the kid more pro-active. The pacing at the beginning was much better by cutting out an unnecessary side trip and getting rid of crap that doesn't belong in a Star Wars movie - OH NO TAXATION! Also, it makes the minions of the trade federation more of a threat - they originally had cringy (roger roger) dialogue that made them seem like a joke.

Ep. 2 and 3 were also much improved. After the edits episode 2 is still not that great of movie, but the original version was nearly unwatchable. The flow is much better, the main character is no longer a whiny annoying teen and the romance is more believable/less sappy. It also got rid of one of the most ridiculous action scenes ever thank goodness and a part that felt like a frigging video game sequence. It is still worth watching as a setup for episode 3 (which is a very good film) and the Hal9000 version at least makes Episode 2 decent.

As for episode 3, I always enjoyed the original and feel like people shouldn't skip it even if they don't watch the other prequel movies. However, the original version did have pacing issues, some horrible dialogue, and some important characters had little to do in the film and others acted out of character. The Hal9000 edit fixes allot of that and makes it into a really entertaining film, although there is still the infamous NOOO!!!!! scene in it, lol. Hal9000 felt that scene was important and couldn't find a way to edit it better and not make it feel jarring. I really liked how the Hal9000 edit gave Padme something to actually do in the film other than standing around crying, and I liked how it made Anakin's struggle more internalized and not focused on only a single topic.

I find the concern/complaint thag it'll be too much like ANH kind of odd. I guess people are thinking of Into Darkness' remake-disguised-as-a-sequel and how well that turned out

It's possible to be inspired and influenced by something, pay homage to it, and still be an original thing. Look at Raiders of the Lost Ark and its similarities to the adventure serials that inspires it. Similar characterizations, pacing, tone, etc.

I feel TFA will be like that compared to ANH. Reminiscent of it, but at the same time forging its own path

Their burnt corpses too subtle eh!

What dicks not wanting their adopted son running off to fight in a war against a massive empire and not getting involved with his mass murdering father ;) ;)

well if they didn't want that then why were they in a movie called Star WARS?

no wonder Luke barely shed a tear

I'd say it's more like how The Last Crusade stuck extra close to the tested Raiders formula after Temple of Doom was perceived badly.

I mean that's not really true at all. Would he even mention Ben after the Falcon chase if he wasn't force ghosting him at all.
Also his family dying is one of the big reasons he final decides to join Obi-Wan in the first place.

There's a whole scene dedicated to Luke crying and Leia consoling him on the chess table in the Falcon. He barely cares about his relatives! All in good fun, though, it's just a weird/funny observation.

Man, I was watching some interviews and Ford just gives 0 fucks. Always so bored about everything. In one of the interviews, when asked about his thoughts on the "who shots first" thing he straight up answered "I don't care". He is going to die in this, isn't he?

From what I read, he did not even want to be in the new trilogy, so I guess we already have an answer for if he will be in the 2 other movies. :P

Ford has given 0 fucks for over a decade.

Its only in the trailers and maybe some of the junkets for this I've seen hints of the natural charmer that lit up the screen previously.

Even in Indy and the Crystal Skull when he was attempting smiles and humour he felt so stilted

It's pretty weird, but I guess it kinda mirrors how the audience feels. The audience don't give a shit about his aunt and uncle, and nobody wants to watch a movie where the protagonist spends the entire time mourning characters we didn't really know.

I'm sure when contacted his condition was to only do the first movie.

I guess I haven't watched much of his stuff lately, but he is not a charming person at ALL. It's just a little jarring because it's not what I expected, heh.

In one panel Gwendoline Christie jokes about how Ford is a mountain of swagger and everybody in the room is laughing. Then everybody goes silent expecting him to say something and he just says "thanks for the kind attention" with a straight face. Holy shit, so awkward.

I wish I could fast forward a couple of months and read what people actually think about the movie.

I bet its quality is going to be endlessly discussed for years to come, it won't be as unarguably bad as the prequels or as classic as the originals... There will be constant nerd debate about where exactly it sits.

And is the soundtrack available anywhere, so I can get hyped for tomorrow? I don't know how to hype myself up for this.

If it were I imagine a lot of the track titles would be spoilers, unless you're not concerned about that.

He suffers from social anxiety too so I think he's very uncomfortable in interviews.

Lately,he has seemed more upbeat in his interviews. But honestly,it doesn't bother me at all that he doesn't care about the Han-Greedo thing. He's stated that numerous times. It is just another day at the office to him (which he has said).

Bought two tickets to see TFA in 4DX. All the good seats were sold out, but oh well... I'll be on the second row.

This will be my first "4D" movie, I'm still not sure what the fourth D is... Maybe moving seats and wind blown on my face or something, not too sure.

Seriously, why should he care. It's a fanboy discussion. He's not a fanboy, he's just the actor that played this character in 1977. I wouldn't.

Not just a problem for SW and Han Solo, but a lot of actors deal with fanbases that are so entrenched into a world that they've been long out of and care only a small fraction as much about. You see it a lot in other fanbases, too, most notably stuff like Star Trek and Stargate, but even Xena and more obscure stuff. Fans ask these actors about the dumbest things and you can just tell the actors either have no clue what they're even talking about or have been asked about a million times and they just don't care to pick a side (aside from once they pick one, it will just unleash mountains of hate from the other side onto them, best to steer clear).

So good on Ford, he shouldn't give a fuck.

Just hoping this movie is memorable like the first trilogy was for me. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with being a kid, but hoping I can find some of that magic in this new trilogy. My worry is it's going to be a one and done, with no need to revisit it...

Well, that explains a lot.

It doesn't bother me either. I just think his answers could be a bit more charitable.

It's a fanboy discussion and he shouldn't care about the discussion itself. However, the change Lucas made has some implications on the kind of character Ford played, so he could have some thoughts on that.

I mean, imagine if every actor was just "I don't really care man" when asked specific questions about their characters.

He's probably been asked a million times and is annoyed at the question.

That's fair. I just think there's a better, more charming way to dismiss dumb questions. But he's not that kind of person, that's fine.

It had no impact on how he played the character, because he only played it one way: sit back, act like you're not paying attention, and pretend to fire a gun.
