For anyone who has seen this movie, I hear there's alot of nostalgic beats in this installment. Several reviewers have pointed this out, but aren't too bothered with it. Are people giving these moments a pass because of how awful the prequels were, or is it because the cast has provided enough charm to pass muster? How would Force Awakens be received if it was coming off solid installments? And is it good enough to qualify as a textbook example on how to revive a damaged property?
Terminator Genysis relied on this alot, and critics didn't bite. whereas the Back to the Future sequels used this as well and got away with it. What did BTTF and Force Awakens do right that Genysis faltered on?

It'll be interesting to see how the rating average peters out in the weeks to come. Sounds like a good start for Disney.
I wonder how the Star Wars spinoff films will be handled. Will they have the screen crawl of the mainline installments, or will they be more creative? Maybe some Saul Bass inspired openings, like the ones you see on alot of Pixar films, or on shows like Deadwood or Carnivale.
As classic as the opening crawls are, I've always found them to be very dull.

I read one review (San Fran Chronicle, maybe?) said it's the best sequel. Of the series.

My hype is finally growing.
I'm now considering a rewatch of 4-6 to get even more pumped.

No not at all no details off course I can say just as much as it was in the IV new hope that,
how to I put it without spoilers, its a movie.
But no cop out nothing like that its just like the tention you had in ep IV
Not at all, the movie works for newcomers, it's just that fans of the OT will enjoy it more because of the many callbacks. She called us a bunch of nerds when we all applauded when the OT characters come on screen.
The tone is pretty much the same as A New Hope.

Ow it has FAR FAR FAR more humor in it like Guardians level of humor sometimes, but that does not take back the fact that its a serious movie.
This movie was made by people who understand these movies and understands what brought this to be a series and a cultural touchstone to begin with.
But there were genuine moments where the entire audience LOL hard like a good comedy in the theaters can do sometimes.

You can say whether or not you liked it.
I saw it with a group of about 10 people and everyone liked it. It's not perfect but it's a good movie for all the reasons that made the originals good. Good humor that made the audience cheer and LOL, very human and likable characters, interesting villains, places that look real and lived in and so on.
Boy, not at all what I would have garnered from the trailers. Was hoping for a darker, empire like tone.
