[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

We never got the dialogue from Luke that was in the first trailer, "The force is strong in my family.. You have that power too"

That would pretty much confirm Rey is related to the Skywalker.

That's because it was dialogue ripped from Return of the Jedi.

It could be a reference to Rey, it was definitely a reference to Ben.

I seriously can't believe that JJ thought it was better to have Finn and Han turn off the shield by holding Phasma hostage than by going with the original idea and having the Warhammer run into the planetary shield. I can't even fathom what thought process led to this being a better idea unless it was budget related or if it was due to his obsession with streamlining everything in TFA.

Yeah, he still has the green saber after RotJ. He uses it in Shattered Empire.

I would bet dollars to donuts that the Sledgehammer idea is being saved for VII or IX.

It really doesn't matter, but it just clicked that Luke is seeing that saber Rey hands him for the first time in a long, long time. I realize it is Vader's old one, but it didn't click he hasn't seen it since his hand was chopped off. Wonder if he is thinking "How the hell did you get that?"

Since all the Star Wars movies have time skips, I'm wondering how the next one will start.

I feel weird that Luke would just hide away and let Ben grow into someone who kills so many innocent people instead of trying to stop him. Like what the fuck Luke? Way to let everyone down.

Hey, maybe he just got stranded on that island. Can't be easy to hitch a ride from there.

regarding staff saber talk

have you guys not seen this poster?

of course she'll wield a light saber staff hybrid thing

probably become evil too

What are the chances of an extended edition? So many things felt rushed in the film, like there was at least another 20 or so minutes of film left out.

I don't think we'll see an extended edition, but JJ has said there will be 10-20 minutes of cut scenes on the blu-ray.

Chances are high like with almost every other film. I hope they add Han's burial or something. The ending is super fast in the theatrical cut.

wait, so there will be 10-20 minutes of more stuff but that isn't considered extended?

It was dealt off screen. Phasma said she re-evaluated him and scheduled him for re-indoctrination or something.

This scene could also have shed more light on "how is it possible that the brainwashing stopped working?" part. Some more about Finn possibly be awakened by the force.

Also I'm watching ESB right now, Luke just force-jumped out of the carbonite freezing hole. Forgot about that. Straight up prequel style.

edit: Also people say the triangular room in Rey's vision is from ESB, I think it looks more like RoTS when Anakin fights Obi-Wan. Not sure.

That dialog is technically from ROTJ I believe..Not 100% though

That was a sample from ROTJ when he explains to Leia that she is his sister.

That's because it was dialogue ripped from Return of the Jedi.

That's just a quote from ROTJ. I wouldn't read much into it.

It was taken from RotJ.

Edit: Look at us. I guess that's why everyone calls us The Three Musketeers.

Edit2: Now there's four. We are no longer the Three Musketeers.

It's not the same dialogue guys. The voices sound considerably different, luke's voice doesn't sound as young as it did in ROTJ. The message is the same but the delivery is different. Old luke probably said this again to either ben or Rey during their training. Or may be the did a new vo just for the teaser. But I am still leaning on it not being the same from RTOJ but rather mirroring it.

TFA Teaser two:

"The force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power too"

ROTJ:
"You have that power too. In time you'll learn to use it as I have. The Force runs strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. And... my sister has it. Yes. It's you, Leia."

This is what a friend of mine thinks. Though I don't agree. Any thoughts?

The Rebels still exist even though they defeated the Empire (they are the same group) There is no given reason for the new Empire organization to exist and their behavior seems to have little motivation. The new force attuned character had amnesia and only remembers one thing about her past, she also somehow became competent with the force right after figuring out she was attuned with it. The super oppressed storm trooper should likely not be the comic relief character The main characters have more plot armor than in the original series (tracing a line around Han's son to save him from the chasm and on the same screen saving the new jedi character the same way). For some reason the Rebels decided to use X-wings to bomb the planet weapon instead of ships made to bomb things. The happenstance that put the new main characters into motion was too unbelievable.

Han's body incinerated with the Starkiller Base. Just think of him as the heart of the star or something.

If they decided to do a special edition, it would just include scenes that were actually filmed, like the New Republic political stuff or things from the end battle or Unkar Plutt being on Takodana.

I'm guessing stormtroopers "waking up" (including Phasma) will be a major plot point throughout the future movies.

I hope not. Next thing you know the resistance makes a Death Star which fires "wake up" beams at planets, and Storm Troopers start removing their helmets and become good guys: "My name... my name is John!" Drops blaster. Galaxy celebrates in victory. And Snoke dies yelling Nooooooooooooooo.

Brainwashing has different effects on different people. Like for example, not everyone is/was a monster in Nazi Germany, USSR, North Korea. You will always have good people even in the most devilish places.

Snoke. That is such a funny name. I can't stop calling him Snoop...Dogg :P

No, it's literally the same dialog, just edited to put "You have that power too" at the end. Mark Hamill confirmed in an interview that the dialog is lifted directly from ROTJ, re-ordered and put into the trailer. Then Hamill recorded the lines again specifically for the trailer, which is only the distorted echo you hear layered over the top, not the legible dialog.

He did re-record dialogue but they ended up using the original, albeit slightly mixed up. The echo in the background was the new recording of those lines. Hamill confirmed this at Celebration.

I will take your word for it but it's more than reordered, it's a re-edit too. Notice:
"the force is strong in my family" vs "the force runs strong in my family".

wouldn't be as bad as "drop the weapon too". That was a major cringe, only there for a cheap laugh in an otherwise decent scene.
I swear the humor in blockbusters has gotten terrible in the last ten years. And it didn't seem to be a problem before that. There's these weird quips that got popular that sounds like they should be clever but they're not. That bit was a perfect example.

There's no indication Luke ever spoke to Rey, like she would have been 4 years old or something and the movie never ever deals with this topic. That was probably about Ben. Unless this is something he would say in VIII, but that would not have been in VII's trailer.

They should rename the new sun created by Starkiller Base into Solo and it is the center of the Solo system.

*rimshot*

I wonder how the gravitational forces in that system work now when a star disappeared (where did all the mass go?) and then came into being again. Was all the mass of an ENTIRE SUN seriously compressed into that small planet without making the gravity 10000g? Doctor, my head!

Yeah, you have a great scene where Rey finds out her new powers and then...that happened, magic is gone, just like that. The better part of the scene reminded me of the scene where Paul Atreides uses the Voice for the 1st time in David Lynche's Dune.

Dumb complaint but the wish Ren's hair was shorter, his hair to well kept. And I guess all troopers get some sword training because Finn was handling himself pretty well considering.

In ROTJ he said "The force is strong in my family." You can hear it right in the YouTube clip you quoted. That's even the title of the YouTube video!

He says "is strong" in both.

I pulled the ROTJ dialogue from the IMDB page because I know how lucas has been messing around with the originals. I don't know why IMDB has "runs" in it. I am beginning to remember that ROTJ indeed always had "strong in my family" without any mention of running.

Revan's got such a classic design that I don't feel like they'd even need to play around with it if they did eventually do a KOTOR movie.

Yeah but that dude was fucking primed and ready. That dude had been waiting to do that shit for his entire life did you see that hard "come at me" pose. But he still did okay.

yeah, lol :D

So my neighbour brought up the idea that Rey is a Kenobi which was not a thought that crossed my mind (i guessed she was either Kylo's sister or cousin). People are giving a lot of weight to the Obi voices during that flashback, eh?

thought about it too, but it sounds way too weird to be true
