Final Fantasy IX coming to PC & Smartphones

I can't wait to chill with Vivi again.

I remember getting this game for Christmas with the PSone and a third party memory card. There was an issue with third party memory cards that would corrupt any save. I played the beginning quite a few times those first couple days.

This game had the worlds worst strategy guide, which I had. I also had the art book and OST. I was kind of obsessed. At this point I remember very little about it besides the Vivi revelation.

But now, you can install a midi player like coolsoft virtualmidisynth and some fantastic Midi Soundfont of length bigger than the memory of PC of that time (some soundfont are multiple 100MB large).

Midi can be fabulous now.

I'll say. I go up to 19GB of RAM usage with sample libraries in my typical projects nowadays. ;p

Day 1; never did any of the sub bosses and the sped up battle system is extremely welcome.

Still have my art book in mint condition; no idea why I bought it, wasn't that into Final Fantasy (a fan but no superfan) and I was in my mid teens so probably should have bought more games. Glad I got it though as it's easily the best looking Final Fantasy and I like to have a flip through now and then.

Has it been confirmed that they're speeding up the battle system? That'd be hecka welcome! The original was slowed down deliberately to accommodate the PSX's slow disk loading speeds, and it drove me batty upon subsequent play-throughs! XD

Someone posted "With high-definition graphics, newly added achievements, auto-save, high speed mode, and several game boosting features, the game is easy to pick up and play no matter where you go."

Think it's a translation maybe from the site.

Well that's how you start a new year! Looking at the time when the thread was created it was announced exactly at midnight in Japan. :D

Day 1 + preorder on steam. This game needs the high speed mode + I really hope mods can improve it to the original backgrounds. <3
I'm such a fanboy regarding FFIX. This news made me scream.

FF X will be the next title for PC, right? And aftet that they will announce the FF XII remaster

I have a feeling they'll do the mobile version with it's new interface and port that to Windows. It's SE. THey can fuck up a cup of coffee.

3X speed is too fast, and built-in cheat codes are some bullshit.

I really don't understand why these ports are being watered down to "just get it over with already" levels.

I am going to beat the living shit out of Ozma with cheats enabled. I don't even give a fuck. Stupid doom orb. We'll see how you like it.

It's a Christmas miracle

rather happy about this because FF IX for me has always been a sort of odd one out for me. for some reason whenever I try play it, something about the story or gameplay just doesn't hook me... I've never beat it. I just stop caring. I've even beat FFX, which I dislike much more in terms of aesthetic, because I enjoy it's gameplay. I just never really enjoy the actual game progress.

but on the flip side, it may be the most beautiful. the environment in particular, the mountains and border passes, canyons and mountain passes, always strike me. that farm town... but especially the mountain border. damn i love that place. if the entire IX story took place in that mountain range, I'd probably be OK with it haha

it's always been just so borderline for me in that I love the idea of it, whenever I think about it the thoughts are very positive, but there's something that just doesn't hook me when I try actually 'get into' the story or characters and their gameplay. so if there is any single FF that is so borderline for me that it just needs a little push, one extra little thing like a better combat framerate, maybe achievements, just something marginal to push it for the edge for me, it's probably FF IX.

every other FF is a lot more cut and dry. IV, VI, VII, Tactics, XII -- love 'em. VIII, hate the story but adore the music and the early SeeD missions. X ... hate the story and characters, adore the combat. XIII ... no comment. very certain conclusion on all of 'em. but IX is just, I never know how I feel because every time GAF posts about IX, my feeling is damn that was such an endearing game... but then I try replay it and I remember why I've never finished it despite maybe.... 4 tries =p just needs that extra little something because otherwise I'm inevitably IX-curious but always end up unable to commit ;p

at the very least, I always love disc one, it's usually around that weird upside down tower or something where I just realize that I don't care about anything that's happening ;p it's really now for trying tho. like i've said, think it's probably my most played rpg that i've never actually beat hehe

Come now, there will most definitely be a PS4 port soon. Nothing is holding them back and Sony will be like "FUCK YES".

FF7 probably did really well based on how many people I've seen with it. For the amount of people who whined about said port on the internet it sure didn't stop anyone from buying it!

OG FFVII is immune to failure until remake comes out.

It's extremely likely. SE has been keen to put these in their older ports lately for whatever reason.

The complaints about the filter were kind of weird. It's not for everyone but it polishes the harsh PS1 polygons quite well.

The complaints about the fixing of "This guy are sick" is even weirder because that was already fixed in the Eidos PC port a long time ago.

I'm sure most of us liked it. I just wish it was released physically.

Great. Now I'm getting warm fuzzies thinking about FF9's cast again.

Zidane... Garnet... Vivi... Steiner... Eiko... Freya... Quina...

All my dear friends, and Amarant too.

The characters models looks much better and have more details in the screens posted. The pre rendered background not so much. Still a high speed mode will probably make this the definitive edition. Wonder what "soon" means.

Better not have me log in to some SE club crap like FFVII PC does.

This and 5 are the only FFs post-4 that I haven't finished. I couldn't take the snail's pace of the game. Needless to say, this will absolutely be a day 1 purchase. I'm really glad for the recent change in Square.

Sweet. Just bought a new iPod touch, so this will be great for breaks at work.

Glad to see the best Final Fantasy get the spotlight for once too!

FFIX's slowness is mostly about long battle intros and the way turn actions get queued up too far ahead (paradoxically, keeping the ATB running during long animations instead of pausing it a la 6/7/8/X-2/XII makes the battle system feel *slower*). Not sure simply speeding up the ATB bar will fix that.

Fuck a duck and take me to the moon. I think I just exploded in my pants. FFIX is coming to PC and it will have a "speed boost" option. There is a God after all.
There's also a devil as well, which is why it will have some terrible UI redesign....probably.

Next up: Final Fantasy 12.
truth be told, if we get that and were they to port over either FFT or TO from Vita at 1080p... I don't think I'd even need anything else from S-E this gen. those two plus VII-R and maybe a bit of XIV here and there, I'd pretty much be golden. golden and i'd happily pay a premium for it. I could just replay XII and either Tactics game aaaaaall gen. (not that I stopped per se... I don't think I ever go more than a month without putting at least a 1 floor dent in my current hells gate file haha)

The speed boost makes this a perfect game for me. It's the only negative the game has, I hope this port makes it easier for them to port it in the future.
