OK... it's your choice.
I still don't get how story that is literally not a game but a story can make a game bad or horrible.
Oh well

What do you mean?
Sorry but I can't understand your statement. Story in an rpg is important just because it's part of the gameplay.

gameplay+story+visuals+soundtrack= Game

Expecially, as I wrote, in rpgs.

I can agree with you that the story can't be too important in some genres (in example, the plot for Metal Gear Rising is super-bad, but the game is awesome; the plot in Bayonetta is super-wonky, but the game is good; the plot in Vanquish is non-existent, but the game is good), but in genres strictly focused on plot saying the story is not important is a stupid thing. Why should I spent 100 hours in a Final Fantasy, Trails or a Witcher game if not to see how the plot develops? For the combat system? What's the purpose to fight for 100 hours if nothing drags you on?

I just got an evil idea.
What would happen if I buy Dark Souls II and SOTFS with the discount price and then refund DS II?
I already bought DS II and probably going to buy SOTFS but I hadn't thought about refunding DS II afterwards.

i might refund crypt

i'm glad i tried it for myself and verified how incompetent i am at following a simple beat lol

The Bard character doesn't have to move to the beat. Enemies move whnn he moves, so it's staight up turnbased.

Also, from what I've played I think learning the enemy patterns is more important than perfectly following the beat anyway.

Do people play Iron Brigade aka Trenched any more? What's the main draw to the game, co-op or multiplayer? Does the single player have any value?

Probably not that much any more.

The mulitplayer is only co-op, you play either the campaign or survival maps. The campaign works just fine in single-player as well. It actually seemed more balanced around single player to me.

story is very little part of a game, it is somewhat significant part in RPGs, true, but it's still 10-20 hours at best against 80-100 of gameplay. What's not to understand? I don't understand how one can dismiss a 80 of a game because of 10 hours of a story even if it can't be skipped.

Dudes, we are not on community yet, wait til we get there to get at each others throats...

I'm just wallowing in nostalgia, because I'm basically repeating my posts of 15 years ago
not at anybody's throat just yet, although Se7en dissidian throat is tempting, I'll admit.

and I'm not even kidding!

It's all downhill from there sadly. Also Ashley is the best character.

Well, ME2 is better than ME1 if only for a better UI and no Mako. It's better in many other ways as well, even if the story is somewhat lacking and the final boss is dumb as fuck.

ME3 really doesn't deserve the hate it gets either.. ME is actually a rarity in that it actually managed a steady level of quality despite some shifts in flavor and genre.

The Mako was awesome though, and while I agree that in broader terms ME2 and ME3 weren't bad games, storywise, ME1 is way above the others (particularly ME3).

Got a bet with my father that he can't beat Dark Souls.

He's stuck at the name select screen.
I like my odds.

The name select screen is the hardest enemy to get past in any RPG.

The Mako is fine, and Bioware getting rid of it for ME2 is just indicative of how they approached the sequel, by getting rid of a ton of interesting, if awkwardly implemented, features. It's a damn shame.

Ff8 is hot garbage. The defense force for that game blows my mind.

Yeah, no. FF8 was and still is awesome. There's story problems that I chalk up to translation of the time. But the actual gameplay systems blow the rest of the Final Fantasies that aren't 12 out of the water.

Breaking the game in the first disc? Can do.
Want no random battles for the entire game post-first 5-10 hours? Can do.

I enjoyed the planet exploration in ME1 a lot (lot lot) more than ME2's "mining". Not to mention what it did for the sense of scale and immersion of the game.

But the actual gameplay systems blow the rest of the Final Fantasies that aren't 12 out of the water.
The actual gamplay systems are the game's biggest issue. LR has more interesting, varied, and well-designed gameplay than 8.

Driving the Mako across ME1's 0.1G worlds was about as awesome as sticking a cactus up my ass.

me_mako_1.jpg

Right there with you. I 100% ME1 and got all the achievements on Xbox 360. The mako and barren planets will forever be shit. I'll give ME1 props for its story and dialog over the sequels. But at the end of the day I preferred the streamlining for a tighter experience that ME2 brought. I also enjoyed ME3 outside the ending (which I didn't take as hard as others) and the far weaker dialog choices.

I have a bad feeling about Andromeda though. Have a feeling it'll be a reskinned Dragon Age Inquistion. Wow you can do so much busy work on these planets and have only 5 actual story missions you need to unlock via paragon of renegade points, or some shit.

Im fine with the series being a gears of war style lite RPG before that. But I'm in the minority on that, everyone else seems to just want more and more side missions so they can spend hours upon hours "playing" the game and justifying their purchase.

this sounds quite silly ?

At least I hope it isn't one of those things where a guy never plays games and you were saying how dark souls was super hard and all that and he said I can beat it and had a bet

Or does he actually play games ? What's the story here, either way if he only played old school games he wouldn't have a chance even if the game was easy :)

maybe the name select screen thing your saying is really throwing me off here

Tembo is a buggy mess: excluding the fact the game crashes a LOT, from time to time I'm unable to pick-up saved civilians, like in this case.

Just following there's another civilian I can't pick-up for whatever reason. No need to try 100% this, because it's so buggy you probably won't be able to do so.

few simple random questions

the amy game that was on ps3 a while ago, not on steam? Seems like a decent game..

How much is obscure 1 and 2? I have no way to buy them in my current country to even check prices but still a bit curious on them. Enjoyed the first on ps2.

So how is Rebel Galaxy? For some reason I kinda wanna get it but I heard its biggest draw is the AC Black Flag style combat. I thought the naval combat was okay in that game but nothing mind blowing.

Any impressions?

No, trust me: Amy is a MESS.

That game caused me motion sickness for the first time in my life, I suffered a TERRIBLE moment lasted one entire day, I never felt so bad (I do not suffer motion sickness, I only experimented that another time with Hitman, but it was nothing compared to this).

Even if you don't want consider this, the game is terrible, a buggy horrible messy game nobody should experiment. Ever. And I paid like 0.90 cents for it, but even free, this game is just horrible.

Obscure games are 7€ (first one) and 10€ (second one) here.

Final Pickups:

Nova 111
Elder Scrolls Online
Ori
Aarklash
Undertale
Snakebird
Downwell

DOGMA from GMG

I still have $70 CDN in steam funds but I wont play anything else right now so I figure I will save it for a game I want day 1.

Jokes on you, youll get neither.

What you'll actually get with that mentality is DAI in space. Enjoy!

I have no hype for andromeda, because I already know that's what I'm getting. Still I will forever stand with ME2 over 1&3.

Yeah ME1 had a few cool ideas, that might have been worth messing with in the sequels. But I wouldn't change anything from ME2 after playing it.

He does play quite a lot of games but hasn't done anything like Dark Souls before, but he also thinks he's brilliant at games and said he could beat any game I throw at him so I picked Dark Souls :p

Currently watching him though and he thinks the name select screen is a puzzle, cos it says "try to recall your name"
It's kind of amazing as he refuses any help even now :/

I can handle a rough game if the atmosphere and what not is decent. I wonder why you got motion sickness though?

I guess those games arent as cheap as I was hoping but thanks for all the info

I have amy on ps3 but I just never got around to playing it. Just remember the trailer before the game came out

this does sound rather crazy, I feel a little bad for him with this game.

Does he actually know what he is getting into ? I mean you atleast told him its a heavy learning experience with dying?

maybe it will work out for the best and he will like it or he will give up. What is the bet anyways? What gave him the idea that he has to recall his name anyways? I don't think it has anything that would need to be recalled? haha. He must be thinking of old school rpgs or something

I honestly don't know what causes motion sickness, but the game is totally not worth at all. You own it already, but I just suggest to uninstall it, it's awful.

Yeah I did, he sounded interested! I feel a little rotten watching him right now! He's very prideful, hence the refusal of any help :p

I did think that too, as he has said he wants to try new games and I've shown him a number of new indie stuff before.
It's nothing serious, £20

EDIT: He eventually figured out it wasn't a puzzle xD

This is something I had written earlier in another thread. Here's some impressions from my first few hours of the game:

In the first few hours of Rebel Galaxy I have space trucked across a system full of space stations, space merchants, space militia, and space pirates. I have traded in commodities, mined, wasted and been wasted by pirate bastards. I have followed the news to get the jump on cheap goods, bought low and sold high. The ship I started in was a flimsy paper target with a bulls eye on its back. I have since upgraded the hull, shields, deflector, weapons systems, and cargo hold. I am currently saving up for a bigger more dangerous ship and the upgrades I have installed will transfer over to the new one.
Combat takes place on a horizontal plane with combat similar to Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Utilizing broadsides and turrets to take out major ships and small fighters is a blast. You can change your combat style depending on what weapons you install on your ship from blasting fools at a distance or getting up close and hitting them hard. You can even ram other ships with the proper equipment installed.
This is the game I was hoping for when that travesty of game X Rebirth launched. The soundtrack is a bluesy twangy slide guitar rock fest. Don't like that? No problem, when you launch the game it has support for your own custom soundtrack. I'm getting a Firefly vibe from the music and presentation and I quite like it. Bottom line: it's a fun arcadey and easily accessible spacer. You should have it on your wishlist at the least and if you like the genre you should absolutely purchase it.

Raid is like a mixture of Mercenaries and Monster Hunter. You have an RPG-like level for each character, and each one has seperate stats. You go into a dungeon like level with chained doors and defeat groups of enemies to get keys, you get ranked on how many enemies you defeat, how many hits you take, and so on, and at the end of the stage you get loot. Loot can be new weapons, custom parts to attach to weapons, and money you can use in a store.

As Raid Mode goes on, the stages get more and more complex with multiple routes, optional areas, bosses, etc. Enemies can have stats to make them more intimidating, such as being huge, tiny, speed increase, defense increase, attack increase, etc. There are three difficulty levels per stage, and each one changes the level dramatically instead of just being harder stats. There's 20 normal levels, but also a 21st level, known as Ghost Ship, which is a huge open world obstacle course version if the whole Revelations ship with multiple ending points, branching paths, and a hidden boss exclusive to the stage in the deepest part.

It all can be played online co-op again, and though the first three stages are auper simple, it gets pretty addicting as the stages get tougher, bigger, branching, and with interesting twists.

I just started raid mode, and wow, it's amazing. The loot drops and level progression make it a welcome change after Mercenaries. Still in the first stages but this is like a more fun version of the main game.

This mode is crack, Mercenaries + random loot = win

Are...are you guys arguing over which is the best Final Fantasy game?

That's like trying to outdo one another at a 'Who Has Watched Catwoman On Netlix The Most?' contest.

What you'll actually get with that mentality is DAI in space. Enjoy!

With all due respect.. Why? I mean, it either has to try being an open space exploration RPG or Inquisition in space and there's no compromise in between that will not make me feel like I'm grinding my gears on getting through poorly designed filler junk that just makes a game longer for the sake of making it longer?

I started to go back in post time to find out what game this is but it goes pretty far lol.

What game? Resident evil zero?
