Supply Chain Rumors Reaffirm iPhone 7 Will Not Have Headphone Jack

Isn't there already a smaller aux jack available? Why not switch to that? Then the adaptor just fits over the end of the current connector on your headphones just like with the really large headphone connector that people used to use before 3.5mm became pretty much standard.

Been using a Bluetooth headset for a few months now. No issues with battery life on the iOS device and being free from a dangling wire is great.

I can live with this but I know it will suck for a lot of people.

If the headphones now plug through the Lightning port, there will still have a wire.
Literally the same thing.

I don't want any wire. The people who do invested in the headphone space. I haven't. If this forces people to use adapters for their headphones, there will be an obvious push for better tech.

The reason I want it to go away is the wire. It's annoying, cumbersome, and ugly. I already use Bluetooth when working out due to the wire getting caught on anything and everything. I don't use it in a meeting because I need 100% reliability. I agree wireless audio tech isn't where it should be for this kind of feature removal, but if this spurs it, great.
You said it yourself. You already use Bluetooth. This isn't an advancement it's dropping functionality. I use Bluetooth headphones and I love them to death, but what do I say when I get in my girlfriends car and she wants me to play music on her stereo?
"Oh lol pleb get with the times and buy an expensive ass radio because our Apple overlords demand it." What do I do when my Bluetooth headphones die? I guess I just get fucked then.

hahaha that op

i have to wonder if people like that dislike old things just because they're old or if they're looking for reasons to hate something specifically because apple's ditching it

The latter. Bet they think having an accessible file system is old thing that should go away too.

What a ridiculous OP.

GAF overreacting to Apple doing something different by removing a port that will be unnecessary in the future. This is something I've seen before.

We don't even know exactly how the removal of the port will work yet. Just wait until the phone is revealed.

I say good. Get that shit outta here. Onward to a wireless future.
Oh my, the laugh. It doesn't stop. You guys are marvelous. Keep piling these, my popcorn is in the oven.

you know apple owns a headphone company if they really want to push wireless audio output forward. they don't have to severely inconvenience everyone else.

Well if this is true I won't be upgrading to an iPhone 7, I'm not binning my £200 headphones just because Apple has a stupid obsession with thin devices.

Adapter will be available for the car scenario. For charging, what if they were able to be plugged into the device itself to charge like the Pencil does for the iPad.

You'll make due like we all do when the dumb conveniences we're used to are taken away. Listen to a cd. Put on the radio. Talk. Pretend it's 1995. Nothing will happen. I will continue to stick wired buds in my ears when on a meeting. I'll live.

I bet Apple just goes with Bluetooth. That said, I don't really mind getting rid of the 3.5mm plug if they're willing to include Bluetooth headphones in the box but knowing Apple, this is probably another excuse to cheap out.

Great news - you can use Bluetooth on your iPhone today! If this happens, those of us who prefer wired headphones will be negatively impacted.

Wireless tech will never be 100% reliable, it's why companies still run ethernet to user workstations and power users will are hardwired into their home routers.

You buy an Apple Car instead

Wireless audio is ass.

Everyone is gonna have to buy the newest Beats by Dre with lightning connectors, available the day the iPhone 7 launches.

Apple Watch uses Bluetooth. I guarantee Apple also knows bt is garbage. They're likely working on some sweet wireless protocol. Maybe they'll open it.

Maybe you need to drop your old ass BT 1.0 gear and get with the times. BT 4.X gear all works great. Your rich. Time to upgrade homie!

You're right.
If only there was a company that could focus on pushing that type of technology forward. Maybe if they owned one of the biggest headphone companies around they could work on making wireless headphones that push others to do the same instead of removing a basic feature included since 2006 because everyone in the world uses it.

yeah this

People keep claiming this but it is though? Outside of the "power user audiophile" I'd wager for the vast majority Apt-X levels of quality is enough to be satisfied.
No, it's pretty noticeable, even to most consumers. You can even check Amazon reviews or something. Non-tech consumers mention "Bluetooth quality isn't as good as wired headphones" or something along those lines in them all the time.

The phone is already so fucking thin and 70%+ of people put the phone in a fucking case regardless so the design is moot. Whyyyy on earth would they push this now. God I hope this is a banwagon the Android manufacturers don't hope on.

breaking the cord is the #1 reason why headphones fail so often. Do it Apple, but bundle a Bluetooth set with the phone.
I've never had this happen in my life, even with cords older than me from the 80's. How much are they even saving taking out the jack? Three cents? No way in hell I'm getting one. I don't want to deal with more bs AND an extra cord anyway to charge the damn wireless headphones. Once it dies, then you have to wait on that to even listen to music if that's the case. Smart! Being thinner isn't more convenient either. It cheapens build quality and makes the device harder to hold. I would actually go out to buy a case that adds thickness.

As my post says, I use wireless and wired in my day. I'd like it to be all wireless, but the tech isn't there yet. Weaning people off wired is a good start. At least to make it a viable alternative.

What in the fuck? I have nice headphones I use with my iPhone out of convenience. Why the fuck?????? Now I'm going to need to buy an expensive ass proprietary adapter? Can't charge and listen at the same time? What was even the need for this? Was the Jack preventing them from making it even skinnier? Did it actually cost them anything? What is the need for this terrorism? It's not the time yet. And Bluetooth eats up my iPhone battery.

This alone means I'm going to have to switch to Android.

So what's everyone worried about? Dre will save the day.

They are the only company with the power to kill obsolete but widespread technologies (see the MacBook not having a normal USB port). Good on them. Headphones should be wireless in 2016, it makes zero sense especially since breaking the cord is the #1 reason why headphones fail so often. Do it Apple, but bundle a Bluetooth set with the phone.
So USB ports are dead now as well then? Because I'm still using them everyday.

Listen yall, the headphone jack is ancient tech and needs to be replaced. Just like the sun of our solar system. I mean it works fine for technically everything but you know what? Its useless for some reason still. Because its old. That is why I propose something better than some silly olde ancient star.

Let me introduce the iCadence*. It provides energy to everything in our galaxy, providing that whatever you use it on is painted over with our exclusive CadenceTan* technology. Why live in the past when you can live in Candence?

*iCadence is not compatible with the organic or naturally occurring materials of planet Earth without being used in conjunction with CadenceTan technology.

*CandenceTan is incompatible with all foods. Don't worry though, since food is ancient tech we will someday find a way to survive without it. Just watch, iCadence is the future it doesnt matter if it's an all life extinction machine right now.

Ding ding

Just look at the earpods included. Those aren't exactly audiophile level either. Apple didn't go out and buy Grado or Audiotechnica either. They bought Beats by Dre.

Continuing the tangent, whatever is the purpose of claiming not having a USB port on a laptop as forward-thinking? Don't they upgrade USB regularly? And last I noticed, the ports are small as hell.

For the record the iPhone is already thin enough so I'm not saying Apple should just drop the connector.

That being said I see nothing, but upside for Apple to switch to including BT earpods vs wired ones.

If they want to add a 2nd wireless option with superior quality, go right ahead... but allow me to use regular headphones if I like.
Indeed. Why not both?

Well if this is true I won't be upgrading to an iPhone 7, I'm not binning my £200 headphones just because Apple has a stupid obsession with thin devices.
... because this. I've gone from the 4S to the 6S Plus and I really don't want the phone any thinner than it is now.

Fuck that shit. Why change a small port that is the standard for ages and is basically fool proof.

When were 6s leaks? Isn't it a bit early for a product that launches/being unveiled in September?

This is a solution in search of a problem. This is all because they want to make the phone thinner. Nobody is asking for that.
