Gotta vent, been interviewing for a position with a major automotive company over the past 3 months, was interviewed by 15 people, one onsite interview with 7 people a month ago. Was told today they decided to go with another candidate. Why waste so much of my time if you were not goin to extend me an offer.
Did a in person interview yesterday and phone interview today. I thought I did well and made sure to emphasize the qualities they were looking for. Just got told today that they decided to move forward with another candidate. It feels so bad. I have no more soul left to crush.

I always wanted to work in television, but for ten years I was on the outside looking in. In 2012, I decided to go back to school -- it was a tech school, but it had a TV Production AAS, and I could get a grant and practically go for free, so I thought 'what the hell?' While there, I interned at a huge station in Atlanta, and that caught the attention of a much smaller station in El Paso, TX shortly after graduation. Desperate for any kind of employment, I packed up and moved 2000 miles in 10 days and ended up doing a solid job. Now, I'll be accepting a new job on Monday in a top 15 market, and turning 3 other offers down in the process. It can be soul-crushing, absolutely, but things can turn the other way quickly, you just can't let yourself give up.

I know a guy that works for United Health Group as a Claims Adjustment Rep. It's not a call center job, and I wouldn't mind doing something like that in the meantime while I'm waiting to hear back from some government jobs.
My question is, is there a specific title or keywords I should look for when looking for jobs like CAR that aren't call center jobs?

Last week I got an email to schedule an interview and I responded. It has been a week since then with no response, do you think they might possibly still not be back in the office with the holidays going on? Maybe wait till next week?

Congrats! Will they hire you right away, or will you need to wait until you get cleared? If you need to wait and you're unemployed, look for something to get by in the meantime since you may not know when you can start. The process can take several months to over a year depending on your history (places lived, travel, etc.) and how backed up the government is. Make sure any information that's requested, you provide as accurately as possible since that can slow it down.
I moved about two hours away to an entirely new state for my job. Out of nowhere, I got a call from them asking me if I could start the following Monday. I asked for a couple weeks so I could find an apartment complex capable of letting me move in ASAP. Fortunately, I already had a few places in mind that I looked at a few months before, and they were able to get me in by then. I moved in on a Saturday and started work the following Tuesday.
I'd ask if you could look into a few places really quick, find a place you like, and see when the soonest they can let you move is. Then ask if you're employer can hold off until then. If not, hopefully you can deal with a long commute for a bit.

I'm not sure. You can get an interim clearance which can happen within 5-6 days if there is nothing wrong with your initial app that needs investigating. Average time for a clearance is around 55 days but I should be able to start before then.
The holidays have really borked everything since it seems like their departments are on vacation until Jan 4th.

I created a new position and pitched it to my director, and it was sort of approved with a new focus/implementation!32K --> 40K. Not too much of a pay increase but still very very appreciated. I'm only 22 now so that salary is pretty incredible to me. I know others will probably scoff at it but I"m excited lol. I'll also be traveling and spending more hours out of the office.
Just was very excited so I wanted to share!
I got another interview with the same company I applied to before. This time for another position. The HR rep contacted me and told me he thinks I'll be a great fit for this position, so hopefully it works out better this time. I'll be interviewed by four different people this time, instead of two. One of the interviewers is the same as before.

So I'll try and keep this short. A few months ago, I got an interview with a job I really wanted. Like, would propel my career path to the next level AND be a fun place to work. As much as a job can be, anyway.
After a phone interview, an in person interview, and two phone interviews after that, I was put on radio silence as the holidays went on. No biggie, I had a good Christmas and put it out of my mind.
But a few days ago, I got another call with them asking if I'm interested still. They had issues on their end and they hoped to make a decision by the end of next week at the latest. I said sure, why not, because they weren't at fault for not getting back to me (for the most part, but whatever).
The next day I get an email asking if I could come in for yet another interview with the other CEO. So I did so (that day in fact), and it was a waste of thirty minutes, because the same questions were asked. It ended on a very positive note, stating that I have a leg up on the competition due to my skillset and drive.
But it ended on another "we hope to make a decision soon". Now, I get that they really, really want to make sure this person isn't some asshole, but that marks the fifth interview, and the second interview that didn't really feel professional.
So I'm at a crossroads. During some of the interviews, they talked as if I had the job already, but then threw another interview at me. I had to wait weeks to hear back from them - even if it is the holidays, they can still send me a message to keep me updated.
And the calls they leave don't indicate anything. Some have went to voicemail, where it's ambiguous as to my standings. It's getting really tiresome to get my hopes up again and still not get an answer.
On the flipside, this is the kind of job I want to have, and would be amazing for my career in general. Other prospects aren't so hot at the moment, so this is really all I've got besides the crappy job I have right now.
All this won't matter much if they send me an answer before next week, but I doubt it'll happen. So fuck this place but man, I want to work there.

Well my last post in here was on December 14th. I actually was giving up hope on this job panning out after not hearing anything for several weeks after my second interview, but I held on some hope with it being the holidays.
Got an email two days ago asking if I was still interested and that they were going to be making their decision yesterday.
Went on break at work today and saw my offer email. Needless to say I am more then exstatic. Going from being a coffee server to an IT Specialist. It's a great feeling finally being done with the job hunt. First day will be January 14th.

I had one of those last year and they were just stringing me along in case the other guy didn't work out, despite the other guy being less qualified. I hate to say it, but I'd start looking again if I were you because if they were going to give you this job it would have happened already.
So my interview went fairly well today I think. I'm actually feeling unsure about whether I was left satisfied with the job position. It was for a research coordinator position though it seems more like a research assistant position.
The principal investigator is new to my city and has been apparently getting the main study up and running for a couple of months. So it looks like I would help out trying out the kinks of how the study will be run. I"m not sure how to feel about that. I was looking more for something already established. This could be a great experience but it could also be a mess. Furthermore I'm not really comfortable with collecting biological samples.
I'm hoping there's another interview where they can tell me more direct what's expected of me out of this job versus giving me vague ideas about what it entails. But the PI made it seem like this was it. Like there won't be another interview.
Maybe I shouldn't be too picky. But then again because I wasn't picky enough and I didn't ask the proper questions, I got stuck with my current job which has been an absolute strain on my mental health.
Perhaps I should stop going for research positions. I think I may just be tired of this type of work. But it's the only work I know.

I'm in the same boat, at this point I'm just trying to "find" myself and meet people. It's been really tough though, it sucks when you feel like nothing is working and there's no road to take. Hang in there, usually good things strike when you least expect them to.

Welp. New year and back at home from vacation. I was told I should be receiving the official offer letter early january so let's hope it comes sooner rather than later since I'd have to move to a new city and that takes a while.
Ugh, will be jumping into this soul-crushing pit this week myself having been fired from my job two days before NYE.
Doesn't help that despite having a masters degree from a top50 university it is a degree in cultural anthropology which is basically worth nothing on the job market.
Also have no real clue what I really want career/job wise. Might just go and travel for a while to delay this painful confrontation with my limited chances on the job market.

Keep going no matter what, there might be bad times and thoughts but that is temporary. Meetups are a good idea, I am going to start doing that and will attend my first one next week. I will be bringing in my resume and just networking with as much people as I can.
If you don't mind me asking did they let you know about the offer letter by phone or email? Also is it possible an offer can be through email or is it always a letter?

they sent me an email late december showing me a potential offer letter, basically saying "it'll look like this but nothing is official we'll send in 1-2 weeks" which is nearing its limit soonish but that's the timeline it takes normally, probably doesn't take into account people on vacation and stuff. They haven't responded back yet with the official offer letter but it could be due to many reasons dealing with vacation/early year stuff, I'm not losing hope they've been good with communication when it's important stuff.
It's possible that a company will call you to get a verbal agreement before a written offer letter though.

Oof finally got an updated offer letter with a bit more money, was a bit scared they had gone back on their offer since it had been so long. Weight off my shoulders, can begin planning the move now.
Rejection sucks. But a lot of factors go into hiring, and you can't control any of them. One of the hardest lessons you'll ever learn is to not take it personally.
In your case, I would take some comfort in the fact the company acted quickly and decisively and informed you of its decision almost immediately. Some companies take a long time to make a decision and, worse, don't even bother to inform candidates they've been rejected.

It's been a while since I checked in with you guys. If you check back far enough in this thread, I had gotten my first IT job. I worked for the company for 8 months. I started off at $14 an hour, then was raised to $18 after three months or so. I hated the early hours(4:30 AM) and lack of having two days off in a row. I quit in October and was too lazy to really start filling applications out. This last month, I got aggressive in filling out applications. The last two jobs I had an interview for, I did not get the job. I was filling pretty down. This week, I had an interview and got the job. I now make $20 an hour and work 8-5 with the weekends off. A year ago at this time, I was making $10 an hour at a well known fast food sandwich joint. I went from $10 to $14 to $18 to now $20 an hour in a years time. Keep your heads up and keeping filling out applications and going to the interviews. It's their loss if they don't hire you! Good luck, my struggle brothers and sisters!

Took a test for a state job: revenue specialist for child services. It was so weird seeing all these men sitting in the waiting area. But the place was clean, and the offices where they work looked nice. They're looking to hire one person, but more by May. No bi weekly pay, though.

I voluntarily quit and gave 2 weeks notice. I guess I left in good enough terms that I don't believe if anyone made contact with them, I would get any negative feedback. Basically, I left before I would possibly blow up or get in trouble for poor performance. My superior did give me his number to use as a reference. My current position is PC Technician. Remind me of the cover letter strategy? I pretty much used the same one before, but used it as template and changed "I believe I have everything it takes to excel as a PC technician for (insert company here)".
So I'm from New York and moved to Chicago about 5 months ago. Today during an interview I got a question that was like "how can you help us get exposure/help from other organizations from Chicago if your still new to the area?" It really threw me off guard, and I definitely have to prep myself the next time I'm asked that, but it really makes me wonder if that's a weakness companies see when I'm sending out all of these applications :/

Wanted to add one more thing for a job interview I had a few weeks ago, which I did not get the job. They made me take a "logic test". Here is an example question straight off the test: All ducks quake. Donald Duck is a duck. Therefor, Donald Duck quacks. 1. agree. 2. For disagree
Now, I answered 2 for disagree as Donald Duck is more personification/human life. I probably bombed the fucking logic test because I over think shit. Fuck that company and I'm glad I don't work for them.

I would have said because I'm eager to build a network and get to know the area. You can easily spin that into the fact that you have no comfort zone and want to get to know the new city and your surroundings.
That was pretty much what came out of my mouth. It just kind of put me down that it was a concern for the interviewer :/ I don't like feeling like an outsider.

Went on an interview today. I think it went well, I'm just exhausted from the day. Not having a car is a struggle. Left the house at 5:30 this morning for an interview that didn't start until 12 and the bus to take me back to my city only runs once a day now and at 4:30 pm so I almost had to wait 4 and half hours just to get home, but I ended up using all of my money for a cab home.
Spend nine and a half hours to go somewhere that takes 15-20 minutes driving bruhs.

Need advice on this situation. Got an unpaid internship offer today after attending a career fair type event. I have been looking for about a year now with some interviews and no offers. This position is only merely related to what I'm looking for and it's unpaid and virtual at that(virtual meaning basically at home with the exception of attending some events). Do you guys think it's worth going for it? To me it seems too much negative aspects to consider it yet I am in desperate mode as mentioned i've been looking for a year.

The bolded was one of the main reasons I quit my main job, though not as extreme. What would have been 15-20 minutes by car was an hour and a half to two hours one way by bus (with 2-3 transfers).
Would you be working from home or at a different location? Or will you have a car? Because it's not worth it for your mental health and general level of energy.

Thanks. Now, I can concentrate on studying for the Network+ certification. I think I'm going to move back to the Chicagoland area this year. It would be nice to go back to Chicago with a year and a half IT experience, 2 certs, and $20 salary. That $20 would give me a nicer quality of living there than here in Orange County, California. I can't believe the dump I'm staying at for $2,1000 a month. I'd be able to rent a nice house in the Chicago burbs for that money.

It's monotonous and boring, but you're in an air conditioned office and not doing backbreaking work.
They have high turnover, so you don't have to worry about burning bridges if you find another job while looking. Just give your two weeks.

Yeah. To put things in perspective: Today, I had to fill out some paper work at the staffing company office. There was another person in the room who was talking to the recruiter. The recruiter offered him like $12 or $13 an hour to build some parts for the company. I thought about how lucky I am to be making $20 an hour to be in an office working with computers. Call center will open your eyes though. There is a lot of, lot of dumb people out there, more than you might realize.
