why is his post wishful thinking? why would he wish that people stay with Apple? who cares?

I don't agree that there would be a big switch away from the iPhone if this happens, but there is more than one "great phone" out there. Obviously some people prefer iOS (and/or the Apple ecosystem), but let's not suggest that Apple is the only manufacturer of great phones. But, that doesn't mean i'm immediately taking my business to the wasteland that is Android. Get fucking real.
I'd begrudgingly buy a 5$ adapter and move on with my life owning a great phone. That's what will happen.
Would anybody in this thread buy wired, non-bluetooth, Lightning-only headphones? And spend more than double digits on them?

The world is not a GAF thread.
Can the Lightning port output analogue audio or would it require a DAC chip?
rumors is that the adapter would house the DAC chip
they're probably going to tweak the port, or the DAC can be integrated into headsets:

They definitely aren't going to rely on an adapter for the headphones that ship with the iphone
Don't people get sick of buying proprietary adapters when other devices just give them to you? I get that the adapter would be relatively cheap, but it's not like they're cutting the price of the phone to make up for the lack of a jack.

So iPhone owners have to go buy more expensive Bluetooth headphones now?
Apple is prototyping a completely new set of Bluetooth earphones with the potential of launching the accessory alongside the iPhone 7 this fall. The new earphones are said to be completely wireless, which is to say that they do not even have a cable connecting the left and right ear pieces. Sources say that the headphones are similar in concept to the Motorola Hint headset (pictured above) and Bragis new Dash headphones that were shown at CES this week.
Its expected that the in-development accessory will include a noise-cancelling microphone system, enabling phone calls and communication with Siri even without Apples prior in-line microphone and remote.

Lol, you got to be joking. People are a lot more attached to their iPhones than a single 3.5mm jack removal can undo.
I mean, I use the 3.5mm jack literally for hours every single day, no exceptions.
And IF this jack would go away, I'd consider it a very shitty move. No doubt.

Well, it certainly sounds like Apple will be testing everyone's faith. Glad you're going to pass their test and get accepted into Apple Heaven (tm)

How do they charge, wirelessly on a pad?.
Oh god, those things are so tiny. How do they charge, wirelessly on a pad? Is there even enough room in there for the audio stuff, battery, and wireless receivers, plus a charging port? What's the battery life supposed to be on them?
God I want battery tech to improve. Hopefully if all this pans out that's what'll happen but oof, the first stages are bound to be rough.

Because he is missing at least one 0 to the price tag if Apple even allows such adapter![]()

No cord between the two buds? Sold
In a case.
Oooh yes, interesting. I'm reading the article now, the charging case sounds like a very cool idea. The Bragi Dash last for about 3 hours, and come with a molded charging case containing its own battery which can charge the headphones about 5 times over.
It's actually been a pretty fascinating project to watch, because for the most part they seem to have executed on all their initial goals and impressions have been positive. Really interested to see what the R&D budget of Apple can do for a similar product.
Exactly. Does apple even sell anything that is $5?
If apple even allows such a thing. Ha.Because he is missing at least one 0 to the price tag if Apple even allows such adapter![]()
The crazy thing about a change like this is it would have a massive effect immediately. Look at your workplace.... What do you see? Wireless headphones? I work in tech and even us geeks are still using wired headphones 90% of the time.
Other large changes like no disk drives in laptops were at a point where people actually had started to stop using them. We are not there yet here.
At the end of the day there will just be an adaptor for everyone regardless... By damn. Talk about actually REQUIRING an accessory purchase this time around and stealth increasing the cost of the phone
The thing that kills me is I love my Bose noise cancelling headphones and you have to have the wired ones if you want to use them on a plane. So I'm stuck with a dongle if I go with a new apple phone.

Not saying the situations are 100% compatible, but when the Xbox One was originally not going to play used games it was pretty huge news. Even after backpedaling on that, people STILL thought the XB1 didn't support used games after it released.Yup. People will buy an adaptor or use the pack-in headphones. Most people probably won't know it's missing until they open the box.
The idea that millions of people will switch because of it is laughable.

Again, not completely comparable because the XB1 did a couple other fuck ups (bundled Kinect, more expensive, and less powerful), but a device as popular as the iPhone suddenly removing a major standard feature and the rumors about it coming so early before release can and probably will reach a good chunk of the general public. And if the rumors and news stories don't do it, I'm sure Samsung and other competitors will take FULL advantage over it in their own ads, haha.
why do they have to be wired on a plane?
No transmitting devices on takeoff or landing, which Bluetooth qualifies as. I imagine some airlines might even still be banning transmitting devices alltogether.
Anyway, this sounds like a dick move to me. I'm using a Nexus 5 right now but I'm thinking of getting an iPhone as my next replacement since getting an iPad Air 2. Not dissatisfied with Android really, just want some variety and to keep my devices in the same ecosystem. I can't imagine any advantages this brings for me. I have plenty of good headphones I'd like to keep using (and for that matter, want to keep useable with everything else with a headphone jack) and having to add an adapter that might break, get lost and add more bulk and potential stress points for the headphones is just a bad deal. I'd lie if I'd say this isn't making me reconsider switching a bit.

Sounds neat but also sounds like they'd have awful battery life at that size. I'd prefer a model that has the option to use wirelessly or the option to use wired.Apple developing revamped, cord-free Beats with charging case ahead of iPhone 7

Make them connect via MagSafe and seamlessly transition to Bluetooth when the cord is yanked out.Sounds neat but also sounds like they'd have awful battery life at that size. I'd prefer a model that has the option to use wirelessly or the option to use wired.
