New trailer for The Division (3 minutes)

I think this was more the case in the Alpha because it was filled with players that are really excited about the game, but once it gets out into the public I fear that it might be a GTA Online kind of situation, where-in you really can't do anything without being shot. It may, however, just be a symptom of the user base and the game from which my fear originates. Red Dead Redemption also suffered from this.

In the end, I know that it's bound to happen and that's fine, but I'd like some sort of unspoken team work from time to time. I see it a lot in Elder Scrolls Online. If you see someone fighting a big enemy, it's not unusual for group of people to gather and help out.

True,
About that last point the happened here also. I mean there are some high level AI in those zones and they all gave some good loot. So alot of times i was fighting them and other people joined me. Moslty because they wanted that AI loot also when it was killed.

Thing I like the most is that it's not a twitchy shooter. We need more slow methodical games and this seems to trend that way. Though I am afraid it will be too reliant on stats and eliminate skill out of the equation (by watching the accuracy/miss rate of weapons).

From what I was told by some friends in the Alpha, headshots matter a lot. They're not 1 hit kills, but they do deal additional damage.

The base/hub areas and the open world are completely seamless, there's no equivalent of Destiny's orbit loading/matchmaking stage.

And you can definitely go into the pvp areas alone. It'll obviously be more risky than going in with a group, and there may be some encounters that aren't really possible solo, but there's nothing stopping you trying (and given that anyone can drop group at any point and shoot you in the back, even grouping up isn't exactly risk-free).

And remember that just because people can be dicks, doesn't necessarily mean they will be - they released some statistics after the alpha, and something like only 10% of players ever went rogue (ie, attacked other non-rogue players). The dark zone is a pvp-enabled area, but the primary source of loot there is still pve combat against AI.

Thank you very much, with this post you alleviated my greatest fears. I have finally made up my mind to buy this game day one. Went on my PS App and pressed the button.

Was originally going to do the Amazon Shuffle, but after reading extensively, there is just no way that Beta can make me dislike the game.

That was easy.

  • pre-order PC Physical. (Offer does not apply to digital content.)
  • PS4/XBO physical work too.
  • Doesn't charge your card until Amazon ships.
  • Immediately sends you an email with activation code.
  • Activates on Division website, attaches to your Uplay account.
  • Took less than one minute.

Theoretically you can cancel your pre-order at any time, but I'm going to wait until after the Beta.

I see a lot of people saying that the alpha sold them on the game.

Can anyone elaborate? I want to be sold too?

You know it's odd, but the comparison that comes to mind is bit like back in 2007 when it was September, and everybody was talking about Halo 3. Then the CoD4 multiplayer beta (M16s on overgrown) was released around mid October I believe, and for a few weeks you could hear the whispers of what was coming next.

CoD4 dropped, and while Halo was still great, by 2009 MW2 was the only thing on people's minds.

That's kinda how I feel about The Division.

The difference between then and now is the genre. The amount of investment it takes to keep up to date in Destiny as a fpsrpg works in its favor compared to something like a regular fps multiplayer experience (like Halo) and as a result the average player is not gonna want to sacrifice all that and move to a different game, and juggling these kind of multiplayer games can get tedious for many.

However, I feel that overall the modernish setting in New York City appeals to wider demographic of people, and that the game is probably going to have a very interesting second month of sales.

Word of mouth is what's gonna make or break this game, and I hope they realize that. The alpha was a start, and you hear it was pretty good already. The beta is what is gonna be the gamechanger, and hopefully is why they are taking their sweet ass time letting us know when it starts.

Edit: Oh, and it's coming out on PC as well.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
did you watch the syndicate videos i linked to?
Yea, I looked up other videos and screenshots as well which show the effect working as advertised. Is it perfect, no, but I wouldn't call it outright broken. Plus this thread isn't about AC or a game made by Ubisoft Montreal. Massive has a history of being ahead of the curve in terms of visuals iirc not to mention they spent several years specifically on the development of the engine.

I have no idea what that acronym means lol
MFW=My face when.

Yeah wish I was around for the alpha feedback.
Thread still exists.

I am tempted to get this on pc but afraid the population will die out really quick compared to consoles. Does GAF do pc game groups like they have for console?

I don't know, this is fairly impressive for a game that is still a couple of months out. Generally bodes well for population.

Keep in mind Ubisoft earns a significant amount of revenue from the platform despite being pushing proprietary DRM, late ports, bad ports, etc.

quote to see about 50 minutes of alpha, its been re-encoded and the game does look a lot better then what I downloaded. But its probably the best quality gameplay we have had so far. Also it seems most of it is wandering and just walking around as the story mission really isn't till after he ended the video which is when you unlock the hub.

Still can't wait to wander around new york finding all the collectibles.

Says it needs a decryption key.

that video shows its broken as is, but the opening area is very simple and less prone to aliasing. once you get to london where theres more contrast and higher detail levels it just falls apart. enabling pcss alongside it makes it even worse.

alpha it was random only and customization wasn't implemented. But you could see the basic options that will eventually be there most likely in the beta.

Thanks. One of the things that annoy me about Destiny was there was only little you can customize. It'd be nice if you can at least customize your character's face.

Kinda bummed there's no ADS view like there was in Future Solider. It's no big deal, but I always find those hybrid mechanics neat.

Just betting on typical ubisoft issues. I didn't know Rainbow Six had issues. Man.

Had? Has. Its better now but still plagued with matchmaking issues. Were it not one of the best FPS games I played in some time, I would've sold that shit back so fast.

As much I as hate getting ganked. In live, you should expect playersto behave like dicks because it is PvP.

I think you'll get a mix of both. Especially with a game that has support roles. Even DayZ has people playing the hero and killing those that pk fresh spawns. Just a matter of luck in who you run into and part of the tension.

It concerns me that they're being so vague about what the single player components will entail. What exactly is there for those of us who don't want to play with others??

Darkzone you can do by yourself also. After playing the alpha i noticed alot of people prefer just to extract their loot also instead of going roque and shoot you. Sure its tense when standing their for the chopper to come but its not that everytime you have loot you get shot.

Also darkzone is just a section on the map. To get in there you just walk over there and then you walk through some kind of hub where you can buy stuff and when you go out on the other side you are in the darkzone and see other players.

Now we have several alpha players here, can I have a confirmation regarding endgame pve and pvp?
Is the dark zone the only choice we have for endgame? Isn't there any other pve missions for endgame loot?

I'm just worried that dark zones seem to be the devs answer for end game content.

Without Raids or elaborate "dungeons", I'm afraid it'll get boring quickly.

Yeah, that's my concern.
If they want to copy Destiny and its success somehow, they have to offer similar activities for endgame, dungeons and raids. PVE.
