YAAAASSSS! Gonna grind the heck out of the online mode and properly learn the game during those months. Then I'll play this story mode, which actually looks good and interesting. Focusing on balance right now is the best decision. I know not all people will like this approach, but I'm sure those who care about the competitive aspect of the game will appreciate it.

Definitely looks like some effort went into the direction. If people come away giving a shit about the story in Street Fighter, that'll be one helf of an accomplishment.

I honestly agree. Best to get the balance of the game out the door first. As long as the story content is free (which it is), I'm sure most won't mind the wait.

they definitely never said this. there will be specific money-only content. they've only said that gameplay related content will either be released completely free (this story mode expansion, balance updates), or be obtainable with in-game currency (characters)

Yeah, you're right. Just looked at this post: http://www.capcom-unity.com/combofiend/blog/2015/07/18/street-fighter-v-a-new-way-to-play

I completely overlooked the "gameplay related" part. I apologize.

The Q&A during last years EVO. Someone asked cosmetic DLC and they said that it would be earnable with fight money or real cash. But Matt quickly grabbed the mic again and said "Some of it!"

I'm sorry I got that wrong. Please don't beat me too badly online.

Somewhat off topic but I haven't played the beta and since this is cross play will there be an easy way to get together with fellow gaffers to play against online?

Good stuff.

Individual character backgrounds via comic panels + a cinematic mode. I would have only expected the former.

Later is fine for the main story mode. Gives more time to work the DLC characters in.

Well holy hell, I just expected what we got in SF IV - Character story, hand drawn stills, and maybe specific "rival" sound clips from characters. Having an actual story is gravy.

The first "character stories" thing is just arcade mode with stills from Bengus. The Cinematic Story, the one the trailer was for, is the real story mode.

Character Stories will be in at launch, Cinematic Story in June.

Oh hey, awesome! At least it'll give me a reason to play 4 months after release (other than, of course, get my ass beat online).

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I couldn't care less for the story mode of a fighting game but this late release makes pretty clear that the game was rushed to meet the February deadline and it worries me a little about the game modes that really matter.

EDIT: it looks like the base game already has an story mode. So this is a extra. No problems then, phew.

I still think your concern is legitimate

Pretty similar to my thoughts. Story mode is a nice edition, but not key.

The mode not being fully ready makes me wonder if the game is gonna ship half baked, and then patched later.

Getting the game in February without Story Mode >>> Getting the game in June with Story Mode

Hopefully that's not Guile's main design for the game.

Uh... I don't get what's wrong. It's pretty much the same design he's had since SFII.

So, is the cinematic story like Xrd's, where it's just cutscenes? In that case, I'm glad they're not holding the release until it's finished. As long as it's got worthwhile single player content/

It just sounds like they had their priorities straight, better have the game now with less single player content than later and risking missing the deadline for EVO.

I just want something fresher.

When and who is the first DLC character though? Come on Capcom.

Balrog makes the most sense. Everybody else who has their face as a statue in Fan's stage is already in, and he was playable a month ago. Plus, easy to get the low-hype characters in at the beginning when the game is making the most money already.

lol @ the Nash gif with Mika, that's great.

Whoever said Kolin is Urien's secretary, she is in fact Gill's aide.

I think they can do some interesting fight like 1v2, some sides rolling beat him up like tekken. Finger cross.

The story mode? Its a fighting game. Youre really lucky its there at all.

I'm sorry, but no.

Mortal Kombat changed the game. It raised expectations.

Capcom said Story Mode would be there this time around. While the in-game model cinematics is certainly better than the 2D art they've shown for what I'm assuming is Arcade Ladders, the fact that it's coming out 4 months later is a major disappointment.

We don't know if Balrog was the only playable dlc character at Capcup. Like I've said a million times he only mentioned Balrog because he was specially asked about Balrog.

Its not like its not there at all or you have to purchase it separately. This is better than outright delaying the game.

Can't believe I exist in a world where Street Fighter tries to take itself seriously and posts a trailer with epic implications...

What a time to be alive.

In my conversation with Capcom late last week, that's definitely what was reiterated to me: that all post-launch content had to be earn-able, not just buy-able. There was no stated exception to that.

So, I don't know. That's what I was told. Maybe there was a misunderstanding, or not all plans/decisions are in place, or something else. But what I was told seemed pretty clear.

Would you have preferred they delay the game, miss their fiscal year, and mess up their Capcom Cup schedule just so the story mode can be at launch? Or perhaps rush it and not give it the ample time it would need to be as good as they want it to be?
