FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

Did this guy ever comeback and elaborate on this comment?

Personally I haven't seen anything combat wise in the Witcher that comes close to this

Obviously FFXV will be more sophisticated and flashy. I personally haven't had any big issue with the TW3 combat, though, and didn't understand the hyperbole on GAF especially. I don't know any WRPG with better action combat. They're pretty much always hot garbage. TW3 was absolutly servicable and more than a few times it was even pretty fun when you got into the "rhythm", alternating between fast and strong attacks, dodging, using spells, items and bombs. Just finished it a few days ago - what a game, whew. The last stretch felt a bit weak and rushed, though.

Funnily this here reminds me of Ciri's special attack:

As others have said, I imagine there will be those three elemental magics and the ring will give stuff like Ultima/Holy

I agree, this sounds the most likely to me. To be honest I'm pretty disappointed with the way he described the magic system, but if the ring magic delivers on stuff like meteor, flare, holy, etc. I'll shut up pretty quick. As it is the elemental magic seems really barebones even if each spell has the wide degree of utility promised.

I really wouldn't count on this. Tabata went out of his way to be extremely clear that thunder, blizzard and fire were the only three elements for elemental spells. The ring magic may differ somewhat, but I wouldn't get hopes too high for a huge diversity of spells.

You're right

I'm keeping my expectations low.

Is it just the development on PC, or is it eventually going to PC as well? I have not followed this game at all, but after seeing the footage I am curious what platforms it has been confirmed for beyond X1/Ps4.
All games are developed on PCs, that's what Tabata is referring to. If a PC version happens he already said it wouldn't be until after the console version release.

I'm almost positive they'll do a PC version afterwards. It has become a viable source of income for these companies and games costs so much to make these days that I can't see them passing on the PC userbase and double dippers.

Right. Just saying people begging for it now will need to learn to wait a bit.

So, @Rin from the MogNet forum says there was a live interview with Tabata in Japanese at the Taipei show where he apparently said there would be more elements than the three we've heard so far, but he couldn't reveal them yet.

Someone here who knows Japanese? Starts around the 06:01:49 mark:

Yeesh Koozek, here and on Mognet you are a perpetual superhero for bringing these small details to my and everyone's attention. This makes me hopeful, though out of fear I'll wait for a confirmation via translation.

This is probably the most positive FFXV thread in forever (despite the occasional "this is not FF !!! comments). You know the trailer is doing something right when it got ME hyped, and I've talked shit about the game for months now.

And stop thinking all the great thing they see graphically in this game will be locked out of the shitty unstable console versions.
Some people need to understand that "PC footage" here just refers to the "multiplatform" build.

They aren't releasing beautiful trailers that aren't representative of the console versions, they need to remember those "pc footage" trailers weren't even in native res a year ago.

With a five year-old port of FFXIII selling over a half a million units on Steam, it's pretty much a given it will happen. Japanese devs have thankfully started embracing the PC market. Some more than others, but it's progress.

I am still shocked at hoe different the battle footage looks compared to Duscae. Obviously, what we saw were some high level characters but still to know the game will play like that at some point is amazing. The music that played once the were spotted is so good! I am really excited for this again after some tepid ATRs last year had me questioning it.

It's just refreshing to finally get some gameplay footage that wasn't set in a boring environment or looked obviously WIP. And it helps to see some old elements of Versus.

The discussion went like this:

"There's fire, blizzard and thunder magic you can use"
"Are there any other kind?"
"There is, but I can't talk really about it yet"

Hard to say if he was talking about other elements or some more special ring magic.

That's something at least, thanks.

Think it was actually at the beginning of the game considering the levels but yeah, they probably turned on some higher level skills for the sake of the video.

Oh, thanks! Hmm, yeah, I suppose he means Ring magic, too. His "for a total of three" comment was too specific:

Yeah the enemy levels were low but the HP values and skills of the characters were pretty high. So I'm assuming that wouldn't quiet play out like that in the final retail version, but who knows. I am really excited about the combat I thought Duscae was fine but this is very impressive.

I mean the only elemental type magic that is missing that I can think of is water and quake. Since comet and ultima aren't elemental type spells so those could easily tie into the ring magic, as with holy and stuff like that.

I wonder how cure factors in though since Ignis was throwing cure spells in the demo. If everyone also knows cure as well?

There's also wind, and in some games dark/holy are elements too, but I think these three basic elements are enough considering how much they're investing in enviromental effects for them.

Shucks, this was about what I expected. Oh well. Even if I'm not happy, I'll live. I hope this means there are several forms of spell for each element at least.

Ah yes knew I was missing one! Aero.

I agree. I think dark/holy will be more part of the ring magic. I would like to see what other wrinkles this ring magic has.

I am assuming (even though it could be wrong) that you may not be able to summon until after you get the ring.

I think we will have other elements in the ring, like Holy, Earth and etc, but those don't interact with the envirioment. The elemental magics, which anyone can use, are limited to Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard. So what I mean:

Elemental Magic - A new kind of magic that interact with The envirioment.

Ring Magic - Fire, Fira, Firaga, Blizzaga, Holy, Ultima, Meteor, Flare and etc.

Is Cure one of the ring magic spell? If I remember correctly Noctis is the only one who can naturally use magic, but Ignis could still use Cure in Episode Duscae.

Surprised! Looks kind of cool. Although man oh man do I not like Japanese voice acting. Always sounds way too dramatic for my tastes and all of the grunts and groans are silly. Still, cool looking!

Okay. This makes sense. Since it seemed that they didn't really target anyone specifically. And the ring magic is more the classic type.

There was cure in ED? Anyway, if Ignis can use then it's not tied to the ring.

And yeah Ignis was throwing around cure spells but I am not sure if that was just for the demo or what.

Maybe just for the demo then. Elemental magic is the only that everyone can use, and cure isn't one of the three elements.

Hm? Wasn't he just using a potion? Although i guess it could be one of the item magic's

I only remember the potions too.

Ignis wields a pair of knives that he can switch comfortably from a standard grip and a reverse grip for variable attacks. He can also toss one into the air and kick it at the foe he is fighting. In the Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae demo Ignis is the only one able to use magic with his Cure spell. He uses it automatically on allies that are on low health. He can use Venom Strike on enemies, which poisons them.

Not really.

I love MGS but David Hayter only provided a voice and they can always find someone to approximate it, Snake's character isn't just the voice actor. If they wanted to make a MGS6 with Snake they easily could.

Stella on the other hand presented a strong, tough female character, completely non-sexualized but instead totally badass and possibly a rival to Noctis. She was removed and instead we get damsel in distress Luna. HUGE downgrade.

This is what fans created almost entirely in their heads. There's very little that actually displays any of this.

Stella was an idea; she was potential. I agree with both, but I also recognize what they are, which is: not enough to constitute an actual character.

There's really nothing stopping Luna from being compelling in the same ways.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about "ring magic" adding all your Meteors & such. The ring magic seems more like all the crazy shit that you'll be able to do with Noctis alone (Phantom Swords/Armiger, maybe improving/adding to Noctis' zero-shifting abilities etc.), not necessarily something that adds lots of magic beyond the elemental magic stuff.
