Nomura didn't, he took them with him to FF7R :p

Barret's redesign is such crap. He should look a little older and rougher. This Advent Children look disgusts me. It's so disgusting. It's so disgusting that it's really disgusting.

Hopefully Nomura doesn't screw this up and makes a great game for once. His track record is spotty as it stands in my eyes, but I still balee. Kitase will bring balance to the force.

You find Nomura's track record spotty but not Kitase's?

Kitase has had a hand in directing some great games. Nomura hasn't. His weakest work is FF8, which is still better than anything Nomura has overseen. To me, it feels like Nomura works best when someone is there to check his ideas. When he gets free reign, things ultimately end up very flawed.

Hey there's a little known game series called Kingdom Hearts you may have heard about...

I have to agree with this. Kitase directed Chrono Trigger, VI, VII, and VIII.

He has just turned into a producer at this point

Those games were made 20 years ago.

This is 2016.

As time has proven on numerous occasions, just because you did a good thing in a past, doesn't mean you can't shit it up in the future.

Kitase's had the highest highs, but also the lowest lows if we compare him and Nomura.

Still, it's a balancing act. I think they both need each other more than anything for an undertaking of FFVII's scope. I can't imagine Kitase will be too lenient when it comes to something he probably considers his own.

I agree that just because he has made great games doesn't mean he can't make a bad game but he hasn't had as direct a role in a game since about X. He has mainly been a producer and hasn't directed anything since VIII I believe.

Now I shouldn't have fully agreed with Verendus since Nomura has some awesome ideas and is a quality director but the same adage can be applied to him as well.

Just watched this for the first time. It's looking really sharp. I'm sure I'll enjoy it but maaaaan... I don't know why but the animation for that stealthy crouch-walk bugs me.

Guise i gotta say this, FF7 combat looks like shit compared XV now.
Ironically when the FFVIIR gameplay was shown there were a lot of comments like "Lol, FFXV combat looks like garbage now compared to FFVIIR - this is Nomura's real vision!" :D

To be fair, the new FFXV combat footage just looks like Versus combat in higher fidelity/more detailed animations: The cool floaty combos, the cinematics, etc.

The Nomura's vision thing is annoying and is basically synonymous with anything good.

For example, everybody was saying how Nomura directed the PSX trailer and that was the reason why it was so great. It was later found out that Nomura didn't even direct the trailer and he was openly criticizing the way it was made.

Dude is good, but the reverence that he has is a bit much sometimes.

I'm not surprised Nomura criticized it. He likes cryptic messages and very intense scenes for his trailers.

The combat is basically E3 2013, and Tabata has been actively involved in the restructuring and took on a huge role starting July 2012. I think he deserves his fair share here. And really, it should be no surprise as the Level Design and Battle Design are by guys who developed KH2 and Versus, so there are bound to be parallels.

The difference I feel now in FFXV's combat over Versus is that it feels snappier. Not necessarily just in speed, but also in clarity. Unlike older builds like E3 2013 and Duscae to some extent, it's clear and easy to follow the action.

It's like they had all these big ideas they've been showing off for years and finally it looks like it actually works the way they intended it to.

Yep. Tabata deserves a ton of credit.

The combat in E3 2013 was what everyone wanted. I think they just finally got it right implementing it from Ebony to the Luminous Engine.

I guess the story is the only concern now and a stable fps.

I have confidence in it.

but it is odd how it has come about, with Nomura originally doing the concept and general story outline to Nojima as the scenario writer and then now to Itamuro and Tabata. The thing that gives me the most hope is that Tabata has assured us that the most crucial parts are still in, of what works with it being a singular game, so like the no Insomnia invasion scene.

I was never really sure the story behind E3 2013 since those were just uprezzed PS3 models correct? I always thought that the big 'debut' of Tabata's creative control was with the TGS 2014 trailer, which featured combat that looked and animated waaaaay different than the 2013 render.

This is where I'm at. I'm super confident that this game will be fun as hell to play and be chock full of content. Just please.... don't let the story be a turd. This game has everything going for it at the moment. They need to capitalize.

I'm glad that the combat looks so great and everyone's hyped, but I'm still cautious. While it looks fun, most of the combat we saw was just hold to attack combo, which makes me wonder just how much control do we have to do those aerial combos manually.

Can't wait to try it out though.

Think there will be a steady progression from 'slow' Noctis to 'fast' Noctis. That's what Tabata alluded to before, anyway.

They're likely directional inputs. They were in Duscae 2.0.

And I still don't get the frustration over the hold to attack thing, especially with each melee attack being lightning quick like it is in this footage. No matter what, you'll always be capped by the animation speed. Doesn't matter if you mash it or not (you still can).

E3 2013 was just a prototype anyway. They're actually looking to surpass the combat depicted there.

Nice, now did you understood all that post processing shadow talk Tabata spewed out when comparing the shadows to the unreal engine 4 in the latest ATR?
It almost seemed to me that he was saying the luminous is better than Unreal Engine 4?

He didn't criticize what we see. In fact he requested changes on the initial version of the trailer and his requests were fulfilled, so the trailer we have seen is basically the Nomura-approved, Nomura-corrected version.

You can cancel out of attacks to safety so that introduces a level of tactical play. It was introduced in 2.0

For what they are trying to accomplish it must be better suited.

However, Square Enix is keeping close with CyberConnect2, as their production tastes differ from that of Square Enix. Nomura was annoyed by the direction of the the new trailer (laughs), so Square Enix brought it closer to the company’s style.

Looks like you're right.

Lord Nomura's glorious vision lives on.

I think Luminous is a better engine with more potential but I think the thing about Luminous is that I feel it is similar to Crystal Tools with some problems but Luminous is still in development too right now. Since they are developing XV and Luminous side by side. Unreal is a great engine and a lot easier to work with it seems than Luminous.

I hope we get another game outside XV with it.

Not really, ED 2.0 introduced something kinda like animation canceling, which gives you more control. I just wanna know how it feels to play, ED looked good in videos but felt really off to play. While ED 2.0 felt more responsive it still had that feeling of lagging, this video looks a lot better when it comes to exiting combos and dodging, I just wanna know if it's as responsive as it looks. Also, I hope we can actually jump as high as Noctis did in one of his combos, and isn't just some cool combo we do when we hold.

I'm not a JRPG guy AT ALL (well except for maybe back in the day FF7, And some of the Chrono series) and I've felt sort of left out by all the hype surrounding some of these new and remade titles but I have to say that video looked kind of glorious to me. Graphics were much better than I was expecting and the combat looked pretty fun. I may have to keep my eye on this

I am not fond of the combat or party system here at all. Plus Stealth and Base building are a very strange fit. Is someone at Square all about Ubisoft games?

So far (surprised to say this) I likely won't be getting this at launch. I would like an RPG and not Final Fantasy Cry 5. Well, not very surprised considering X-2, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3.
