Microsoft Releasing Exclusive Games on PC Is Great for Xbox Owners

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order. Not for some elitist reason but if its coming to PC day and date than it will most likely be discounted on PC much sooner and having a rig good enough to play it it would be a waste to play on Xbox One.

I'm not generally a fan of Phil, but he kind of hit the nail on the head here. If the guy wants to cut off his nose to spite his face then he's more than welcome to do so.

That apostrophe though.

Seems MS is making good on their PC relationship claim.

My question is why are they not embrace cross-platform play like Sony (albeit with 3rd Party games)?
They are. Fable and killer instinct are cross play. They had better not make gears crossplay if it comes to PC though.

Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot. I don’t know how much the rest of you know about Xbox (I’m an expert), but exclusives and PlayStation shaming are huge parts of it. It’s not like it is at Sony where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over am Xbox fan you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance. What this means is Xbox fans, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase exclusives for Xbox, nor will they purchase any of Microsoft’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated an entire market with this move. Microsoft, publicly apologize and cancel all Xbox One games for PC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Hey guys, I don't own a PS4 (yet) but I'm still buying SFV and Shenmue (when I upgrade my pc)...on Steam. Sony gets none of that money and one less PS4 and PSN subscription. Who gets the money? Valve and Capcom.

Hey guys, I don't own a XB1 (yet) but I'm still buying Quantum Break and Killer Instinct (when I upgrade my pc) on Windows 10 store. Microsoft gets all of that money but one less subscription.

Hey guys, I own an XB1 but I have a gaming PC. I'm going to get rid of it (sell it to a store who sells it to someone else) since all the games MS provides is going to be on Windows 10 store. Who gets the money from the games I buy from W10 store? Microsoft (and third parties that sell on Windows 10 store).

Hey guys, I own an XB1 and I'm getting QB and KI. I don't care about what games come to PC. I still have XBL and I get to still play those games. MS gets my money. I'm happy.

Hey guys, I just want to bitch about MS not having exclusive games for a box that I bought. I want to have exclusive stuff because I like exclusive stuff and that's what I thought I was getting with Xbox...a Microsoft company that also owns Windows and has a store in which they sell software for 1st party and 3rd parties.

Hi guys, I want to bitch about MS not having these games on Steam because I like steam games and they give me the options I'm used to. I don't care that it doesn't make business sense for MS. I want my games how I want them.

Hey guys, I like Nintendo games. I get to play them. I'm happy.

Hey guys, I like Sony games. I get to play them. I'm happy.

I think it's great. I really love the idea of XB1/PC cross-buy. Just fits my household so well.

I just hope we get some retroactive love if it makes sense. If something like FM6 comes to PC, I hopes MS will look out for their customers. I'll have spent $150+ on a game like FM6 when all is said and done.

This. If I would of known about this and the chance of scalebound coming to PC then I wouldn't have this Xbox collecting dust. Still getting the games (on PC now) but knowing this would have been helpful.

This might be it. I don't see the outcry for fable legends, sea of thieves or halo war 2 release on PC.
No one is mad when MS honest about it.

Which one do you fall into?

All my xbox friends just sold their xbox one because of this. not.

I do think exclusives are important to maintain for consoles specifically.

Hmm on one hand I can understand the disappointment in a non-fanboy way.

Exclusives bring value to your console. If those exclusive can be played elsewhere why own the console.

And Im not saying why own it because the audience is expanding and more people get to play, like TimDog, CG, and other fanboys.

Im saying as an individual, why own an XBone, if you can play most of their games on a PC, and also invest is a larger library not found on the XBone?

Now if only Microsoft would get rid of that stupid "XBOX ONE & WINDOWS 10 PC EXCLUSIVE" banner off of the box art now, I really hate the way it looks.

I guess the fanboys don't want the gaming brand at Microsoft to expand.

If this will help them fund more projects, than this is a great thing.

Maybe we'll finally get that fully featured Age of Empires sequel we've been asking for.

Because it gives you choice? The games are still there on Xbox One. You decide how you want to play. And with cross buy you can even do both.

Many Xbox one owners don't own a gaming PC. I'm one of them.

This is like the reverse of buying exclusivity for 3rd party games, the argument being that you gain nothing for owners of your system, just take away from the other console. This is the reverse, you lose nothing as an Xbox one owner, just give the games a wider audience and greater potential in the future.

Anyone take a look at Phil Spencer's twitter today? I hate giving someone like Crapgamer attention, but this was too good.

s2DOmxa.png

This made my day. I hate crapgamer, and I'm glad Phil, someone from the Xbox side, is exposing his idiocy. It's about time the Xbox execs finally stop these guys rather than retweet the shit they spew.

Every Xbox person is talking to them on twitter which i dont get. But good questions and well written criticism gets ignored from them.
Most companies -- especially ones as big as Microsoft -- have an official policy of replying to Twitter complaints and other social media comments. It's the world we live in, now.

Phil said it pretty well:

I'm really hoping they go all the way with the idea that it's about the experience, opening up the next Xbox and making it a true Windows 10 gaming rig that can play things like Steam as well.

Did they really lose one tho? It's all apart of the same ecosystem.

They way I see it the more people buy it the better.
There's more chance of a sequel and better support.

So is the argument basically "I bought an xbox and I want to know that I invested in the winner console because I want to feel like a winner and there are people out there who don't want to own an xbox, but hopefully one day they feel like they will be forced to buy that console that they don't want to buy and microsoft is screwing up this plan up and so the console I chose might not end up being the one with the highest sales numbers listed on Wikipedia in 20 years when I go look back on the system for nostalgia reasons and I'll feel like I lost out on something."?

Seems like an awfully convoluted thing to be upset about.

There isn't really any evidence that the PC market and the console market are in any direct competition for consumer dollars, so unless that changes anytime soon I don't see a reason to be concerned. If anything, in a world where more and more publishers are having trepidation about green lighting big budget AAA games, the PC market can only serve to complement the console market.

Interesting. In my budget, entertainment is entertainment (games, music, movies, etc.) and it's all competing. I can agree and see where it's a good deal for the companies, just not seeing the benefits to the same degree for consumers unless bigger games equal better games.

I guess I kind of always assumed the competition between PC users and console users was driven by market competition but if not and it's just tribalism, it makes even less sense than competition between console A users vs console B users to me.

It actually works out for me. I've been thinking of selling my Xbox One, I only use it for Netflix or Hulu Plus nowadays. I think it's time to build a gaming PC.

For major 1st party games?

No chance. You might get mlb.

They're already dipping in their toes in the water with PS Now available on different Sony devices. They just define their ecosystem differently, because they're a hardware company.

But aren't they fans of the games? Isn't that why they became fans in the first place, because the games were fun? Do people really get attached to the hardware that runs them? Like, for real?

is it really that shocking video games and sports are pretty much the same things these days with its fanboys rooting for each team and feeling betrayed when a well liked player moves to another team. The teams are the playstation nation, xbones, and pcsteampunks..

I own an Xbox one but don't find this a problem at all. Really the only thing I wish for is an option for cross play, maybe restrict it only to people using a game pad for PC players, then I feel you could add a literal value to the ports for both sides. Still, games selling more increases their chance of future entries, so fans of these should be open to it. I know you need to feel justified in a hardware purchase, but really, the Xbox one is a pretty weak single option this gen, but thankfully I own them all anyways.

Fanboys gonna fanboy.

I own both platforms and regularly game on both throughout the day and the fact that it's pre-order cross-buy means I'm not paying extra for something I probably would have.

Win-win
It won't be long before Sony does something similar.

Ha, probably not, but I'm not going to lie, I'd rather play Bloodborn at 60fps with some decent AA. Not likely to happen until PS5 IMO.

As far as we know its only coming to the Windows 10 Store, so discounts probably won't happen.

but why would you bother when we already have the almighty steam sales for plenty of 3rd party games.

There could be lots of reasons:

MS could charge a lower fee than Steam
People who buy on W10 store can tap into their XBL friendlist
XBL achievements
Play multiplayer games with XBL people which Steam games generally cannot.
MS could have just have good of sales as Steam or even better
MS would have Xbox exclusive games on W10 store which Steam wouldn't have. This isn't like GOG when they get some old 20 year old game as a "GOG exclusive", these are AAA MS backed games.

This. If I would of known about this and the chance of scalebound coming to PC then I wouldn't have this Xbox collecting dust. Still getting the games (on PC now) but knowing this would have been helpful.

Why get a system prior to it having the games you want? If it's collecting dust till X game comes out, then perhaps the purchase wasn't warranted.

is it really that shocking video games and sports are pretty much the same things these days with its fanboys rooting for each team and feeling betrayed when a well liked player moves to another team. The teams are the playstation nation, xbones, and pcsteampunks..

But the games are still exclusive, they aren't going to be on Playstation or Nintendo. They can still wave around their stupid flag for warrior bullshit if they want.

And yes, I'm still shocked that full grown men behave like kids.

It's not that black and white. Turning gamers to the PC and away from a closed eco system like the PS4 means lost PS+ revenue and loss of control. They might benefit from the additional PC sales, but then they might just loose sales to pirating.

I see this move as MS losing confidence in the XB1 to carry a game by itself. They are willing to give up XBL money in hopes to tap a much larger install base. But it can backfire, it could slow XB1 sales and ultimately make the PC their next gen platform (like the days before the Xbox brand).

It's a gamble, but someone was reading the tea leaves. Halo 5 sales maybe showed the a glimpse of things to come.

It's also something that can pay off hugely, having a hand in both the PC and Console markets appealing to both at the same time.

I don't understand why so many make it out to be a a jump ship scenario when it clearly isn't.

My point was, I can understand the disappoint of the Non-Fanboys, not that I dont understand why MS is doing this.

I very much understand the position of offer choice, and expanding the consumer base.

I understand one of the main purposes of the hardware is to sell the software anyways, so why not expand the market to sell the software.

Its just that I can see the POV of fans who do have a capable PC, but also went out, bought and supported XBone, because they like their exclusives, and they were "Only on XBone"

It won't be long before Sony does something similar.

It looks like Sony are open to it with their smaller budget games like Helldivers and Everyone's Gone to The Rapture, but I doubt they'll put any of their big budget games on PC, at least non of the PS4's.

I still don't get why some Xbox fans are harassing Phil.

So from their own words, they are mad cause these exclusives are going to PC and so why would people buy Xbox? Why would YOU care though?! You already bought an Xbox! And you still get the game! WTF is this dumb logic.

If their fear is that fewer people will buy Xboxes so that there's some vague, future impact on MS continuing to support Xbox, do they not understand that this move is to help ensure that more Xbox game even get made?!?!

Yeah. This is good news for me. I have no intent on buying Xbone, I have PS4 and I'm going to get a better PC soony.

Not so great news for Xbox though. Looks like Microsoft is dumping it in favor of PC. There's zero reasons to buy an Xbone over a mid-priced gaming PC. Doom-mongers would even question the whole future of the console. Future looks grim.
