Miss Universe might be at the march event if she decides to come.

HYPE... RENEWED

Miss Universe is a FF fan AND a KH fan? She's got good taste haha.

If the hosts tweets are anything to go by it'll be great show.

Yeah I keep up with KF a lot and love their stuff. I am really hyped about it and am sure it will be a really cool event. I am not actually worried but at the same time that Maxim release party was real... and it haunts all of us

What those guys are doing is just PR. It's their job to make this hype and exciting. "Man, you guys are in for a huge surprise for the event!" and "You don't wanna miss FF XV's March event! I dunno if I will like the game but the event is gonna be sooo cool!" LOL. It's PR.

But what if they're being genuine and not just saying that because of a paycheck?

THE HYPE GETS BIGGER.

Setting and worldbuilding is pretty great, amount of content is great, story and characters are trash.

Same can be said of all FFs really.

I'll agree that the narratives in FF can be very uneven. However, historically, characterization has been a strong point in the series (with some notable lows of course). VI alone has six or seven characters I still consider among the best in RPGs, although they're sketched in a minimalist fashion, particularly compared to wRPG trends.

And all these years I thought FFVII had an interesting story. Turns out I was believing a lie...
Story is simple. It's basic. Almost everything has a "good" story.

Final Fantasy VII struggled with narrative. The plot was decent, but nothing special. The characters and characterizations were bland.

IMO, the plot is still easily one of the best in gaming. It was definitely groundbreaking at the time, but even now, I often find myself thinking fondly of it when playing other, lesser JRPG stories.

I would love for VI to be remade. Want that way more than VIIr.

Might have actually been interesting, then.

I haven't been keeping up. Is this the new narrative with XV? Now FFVII sucks in hindsight?

I don't think so. The story was straightforward but well told with lovable well written characters, and an iconic villain that 3 console gens later are still talked about. VII is an absolute classic in every sense of the word.

My obvious criticisms of VII have nothing to do with XV.

I don't know anything about XV.

Well-written characters? A well-told narrative?

Sure. You just keep on believing.

I think the dialogue and characters were pretty bad. But the story concept, to me, was amazing. I didn't think it was very straightforward at all, either. There were a lot of twists and confusing things thrown in there. It was just told poorly.

I think FFIX was a better game over all. The story wasn't as good as VII but it was definitely told much better.

Kind of wondering how a detective story would work with (big-ass) summons...

There was originally a detective character in the cast, but I doubt the whole game would have been a detective game. It was still an RPG with battles and shit. The terrorism aspect was already in the story.

Miss universe Philippines is an FF fan? It has to be because she is Asian but yeah.... hype is too much, maybe even for her! lol. Seriously though that was very unexpected.

WTF?

I'd love to but no, FF would give him too many limitations on writing and gameplay mechanics ideas.

I didn't say it had to be mainline!

Except when this game is announced it will be Versus XVII and it will be an alternate take on the XVII trilogy Lightning Strikes Again Electric Boogaloo, and after those games are hated and XVIII is another failed MMO and another 10 years of waiting rising from the ashes will be FFXIX which was originally FF Versus XVII and then once it is re-announced as FFXIX everyone can have the same old complaints... "this isn't my FF"

Then Lightning returns again again for XX and it is just a dress up game sponsored by Louis Vutton exclusive to VR

I thought the narrative (i.e., the sequencing of events) was presented fairly well in FFVII. Narrative is driven by events and there were plenty of memorable moments in FFVII. Whether you like the actual story or not is subjective. The actual dialogue was bad, though. I also think the game did a good job of characterization as well. The characters are memorable, and each character has distinct personalities, motives, and qualities you could identify. Doesn't mean you actually have to like the characters, but I thought they were well portrayed.

VII localization was really a relic of its time.

The things I'd do to visit an alternate universe where Ted Woolsey translated FFVII.

Not that it wouldn't be dated by now, but it definitely would have aged better that the actual translation we got.

If with the low standards of game writing FFVII is pretty terrible in terms of story. Listening to that dialogue in the modern day poorly acted by terrible actors makes it even more egregious. The more realistic these games, the more the dialogue starts to be even more like it was conceived by someone who's never had a legit conversation even with the fantasy setting.

Nomura was playing the game on stage, I know, WTF? I don't remember the demo though, but the release date at the end was 09/27, which is a tuesday!!! Maybe it's a premonition!!!!!!

maybe it was September 2027.

HAHA good one Hibiki! Original joke about FFXV taking forever to be made! HAHAHA

But in all seriousness, I just hope it comes out at a completely different time than any other games I want. Whether that's September, October, November, or even Decemeber 27th, I don't care. I just need it to not collide with other releases.
