And I dislike Kevin precisely because of how he's been portrayed in SC (and of course because of his godawful design). And considering I think Rean is terrible as well, you guys are not giving me much confidence in hoping that I'll like Kevin more when playing through TC.
I get why Estelle isn't the main protagonist anymore. I get it, but I'm not happy about it.

But a lot of people who appear to like rean do so from his Cold Steel II performance. I don't particularly like Rean, but I don't dislike him either. He's just there and I feel pretty neutral. At this point I much prefer Estelle, but she's also had two games of character development. I'll see what Rean's like in CSII before i dismiss him.
I like Estelle and Rean for different reasons, I can't really compare Rean to Estelle until Rean's arc is over.
Still crazy to think in a 2 year period we're going from 1 English Trails game to 5! I can't heap enough praise of Xseed thank you guys for making these game available to us.
So while I am very happy with this news and will be buying for PC regardless, it stings that I can't play on a portable.
What I don't get is that Tom says no Japanese VA. Isn't that's what's stopping the Evo versions, licencing Chara-Ani's VA work? So if it's not coming anyway, why not try going for those versions?
Everytime I import something from a store that sells Japanese games, I consider Trails evo and it gets cut because of the same reason you haven't bought them. I did buy the OSTs on iTunes though. I love that Falcom puts everything on iTunes and Amazon.
I saw the sales threads for the Trials in the Sky games for PSN and PC yesterday, guess this piece of news pushes me toward getting the first two games on PC.
Well that's disappointing considering my save file is on the PSP version. If there is an import save feature like the last few, I'm gonna be pretty bummed out. It may seem like a small thing, but it was cool for me to have references to my time spent in the first game when I played SC.

I'm gonna assume that they already tried to make this work for FC and SC, and whatever reasons it didn't work for those caused it to not work for the 3rd as well.
Besides, PCs modability means that one can still play the games with things like different music or voices with a bit of resourcefulness.
I meant that he was referred to as "Insensitive jerk" in the dialogue box before he introduced himself to Estelle, but yeah, he was just looking out for her.

I haven't made my mind up on Kevin. He seems alright but how much of it was an act? A front so we wouldn't know what was really going on? He's intriguing though so I hope we get to delve into his character a lot in 3rd.
Not sure how Third will change my view about him, but based on SC he's a boringly typical womanizer-with-a-heart-of-gold(-when-needed) type. Not really that good a character type. The only interesting thing about him in SC happens
in the final, what, 10-15 minutes
and it was nice of him to make sure Estelle is ok in the beginning. Apart from that? Bleh, womanizers are one of the more boring character types (with the exception of Olivier). That they act like sexist morons is supposed to be ok because they're only like that for 99,9% of the time & the rest 0,01% they are Totes Cool Badasses in some special circumstances. He's not even funny like Olivier.
That said, I know Third will give us more of his background and he'll hopefully be less of a boring womanizer, so maybe I'll end up liking him more than the lukewarmness I have towards him based on SC.

If anything those last 10-15 mins (plus the moments where hes not with the party) convinced me that the Kevin we saw for a good portion of SC was all a huge front.
Mega hyped for Kevin to be the MC this time, and the OST is GOAT too.

I think summing up Kevin's character to "99,9% womanizing" is pretty harsh as that aspect is just one of several traits that are there to enforce how "unpriestly" he is. The amount of people he flirted with is about as many as Zane's and, unlike Olivier, he never goes as far as harassment and knows when to stop.

Technically, Boot Camp's already installed on Macs, so all you'll have to do is make a partition for Windows and install Windows (I use Windows 7) there and *voila!* 2 OS in one PC/laptop which you can switch at boot.
I'd much much rather have the PC version of Trails Third than the PSP version.
This means a big chunk of Renne's backstory will be intact, as it was just removed from the PSP version.
Huzzah!
Agreed that Trail Third has an awesome soundtrack.
At one point of the story, the battle music's change is as appropriate as can be and it completely rocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfJruaNzMaE
Im in the last dungeon of TiTS 2 but the game seemed to be setting up the sequel to deal with the Erebonian stuff, though it sounds like Trails of Cold Steel is what deals with it?

Hes an international man of mystery and man of the cloth... often with internal conflict for him. Sure a lot of it is a front to distract people from wanting to question him too much but you get the hint that he wants to indulge himself and find excuses to break the rules that I feel he somewhat doesnt care for lol
That said he is far more layered (even in SC) than his first impression would lead you to believe. Though I also have the benefit of having seen the prologue of 3rd.
yeah, the prologue instantly paints his whole mysterious church assassin stick with a far broader palette which makes his character a whole lot more interesting, since it basically shows him as Church James Bond.

Because the Evo versions have more than just the VA work that's holding them back (the VA work is just the biggest hurdle in regards to them), they still need more than just Falcom to sign off on even allowing us to have the games so anything can be done with them. If it were just Falcom that they'd have to go through, I'm sure we'd see at least one of the Evo titles over here. But there are 3 companies involved with the games, each of which you'd have to pay licensing fees to and have to constantly run between every time you make any changes. At some point it stops making any kind of business sense to deal with all that, especially when you have a game that not only appeals to a niche crowd, but also appeals to a even smaller niche of people who have played both FC and SC. Also I'd hardly say that a tiny amount of battle voices (some of which are likely held over from FC/SC recording) is even remotely comparable to dubbing the entire game.
Well, my assessment about him IS purely based on SC and I just explained how he's far from some Super Awesome JRPG protagonist just having experienced SC. Even if SC does make it clear that there's more to him, it just doesn't show enough of that side of him to make him shine. I know he'll get more character development in Third, so I'm hopeful my dislike of him will turn into +1 Like.

Granted, I never kept him with me in SC unless forced. I may have missed some good moments with him. Of course it's exaggeration, but he started with a bad first impression when he started hitting on Estelle in the most generic, unimaginative & lame way possible right away (though gained some respect back by the way he helped her a while after). Olivier's act is so exaggerated, is directed towards anyone & everyone regardless of gender and has some funny consequences when his flirting goes awry or he meets his match (i.e. when he starts drinking with Schera & her friend). It's also not always about him hitting on someone but sometimes it's just about drawing attention towards himself in the most ridiculous ways possible (i.e. that boat entrance in SC) or teasing other people/couples.
I get the distinct feeling Kevin is going to be Olivier: Redux replacing 'imperial blooded foreign agent' with 'church warrior fighting evil real dirty'
I'm happy that it's coming over in any way, but I really dislike playing these type of games on PC. That, plus Kevin being the main character instead of Estelle makes me hardly even excited for the third part of a series I really enjoy playing.

There probably will be jp voices for battles like there were available for the previous ones. I go with no voices myself to keep the old school feeling.
XSEED does way too much these days, and now you want to add having them getting an outside team porting games for Falcom and supervising that? As much as the japanese PC scene isn't that strong, that's something Falcom should be doing instead, even if they plan of self-publishing those particular titles on Steam like Spike Chunsoft did with Danganronpa.
Danganronpa's port was done by a European porting company FWIW. I don't see an issue with XSeed contracting additional help if the financials of a release allow for it -- it's not like the historic precedent for external PC ports of Japanese niche games makes them a worse bet than internal ones.

I can't really blame them, though. Localizing a last-gen version of a game to play on a system like Vita all the way in 2017... that doesn't sound like a good business decision even if it's what I want to happen.
What would be nice would be if Xseed could have Falcom build a Save File reader/translator for the PC build that pull in PSP save data (transferred off of the PSP Memory Stick through a USB card reader to your hard drive) into the PC version's carry-over features. Not sure if that's a one-time load for stats or if it'd need to keep the PSP save on the drive (or maybe it could translate the relevant data of the PSP's save into a corresponding PC FC/SC save format,) but unless Trails in the Sky PSP uses that encrypted save format that some games did (or was it PS3 that encrypted some saves? been a while since I cracked open my save directory) then that seems a doable solution.

Fair enough. I mean I guess it could be summarized as "if XSEED could make it work, we'd be getting the games", but still.
I always thought the biggest barrier was licencing the VA - but if it's not being licenced even for the PC version, then there's not much of an issue (they wouldn't need to get it for the Vita version either and could replace it with whatever dub they bothered with for PC). It's not really a case of re-dubbing the entire game because why would they bother if they're not licencing it?
As for working with different partners - I guess, but it's Kadokawa and they seem alright with letting games go overseas (they work with NISA pretty regularly and have worked with XSEED before - on Killer is Dead)
