Early impressions start rolling out for Batman v. Superman

Every time I am reminded of how Sony wanted a Spiderman cinematic universe I just chuckle.

This movie obviously exists to jump start a DCU.

ASM2 and Iron Man 2 are IMO two of the worst comic movies ever made since they're not even movies; They're 2 hour long trailers for future films that you paid $10+ for the privilege of seeing.
I felt the exact same way coming out of Age of Ultron. A good portion of that movie just felt like setting up narrative strings for forthcoming MCU movies.

Yeah its difficult for me to trust some of you, Anyone who hated MOS, loses a little bit of credibility with me because its one of the most important films of the last decade.
K.

Don't forget Black Widow's Ultra Combo, the Booty Camera Attack

Not to be a perv but ScarJo's ass in a black catsuit was the only redeeming part of the film for me.

I agree, but Ultron at the very least had to decency to save that bullshit for the end. ASM2 and IM2 were relentless in their future film shilling.

jesus that sounds like a fucking nightmare. couldn't enjoy a single second of asm2 since it was so transparent with its intention to kick start a cinematic universe. the entire movie was 'hey, look at this guy, he exists and will be important eventually if you pay to stick around. its super interesting and mysterious, we promise' multiplied over several characters without an actual story in the movie I was watching.

Being as broad as I can be, the storyline reason makes sense, and in total, takes up... maybe 2 mins of screentime if that.

WB gives their directors the most creative freedom by far. George Miller got carte blanche on Mad Max, and that shit made no damn sense. They are ready and willing to try the craziest shit possible, like giving Snyder the keys to the comic book kingdom.

Yeah you would never ever get swag/crust punk joker if he was a marvel character. It would just be clown prince of crime with every iteration

It's a double edged sword because rather than coming out with an overall average and safe standard their films also have the potential to freaking be awful too.

Suicide Squad looks like it will pay off tho. It looks incredibly refreshing in this mostly stale genre

I was being hyperbolic but it's not that far off, turning Superman into another grit factory was a massive mistake, and tonally it's a terrible movie.

I don't have an issue with a serious Superman if it was to the standard of the first two Nolan Batman's. It was average, I wouldn't describe it as terrible. I just remembered the last two Spidey films too. It's firmly middle of the pack stuff

What's the worst aspect of the film in that regard? Knightmare? Sounds like it has some cool visuals but otherwise completely stops the film's narrative dead for the sake of Justice League setup.

It's a mild spoiler, so I'll avoid it. It is jarring, though.

I didn't know this was an issue.

Well, I mea-

..Dash said it not me!

Yeah, they're letting Leto go full fucknut crazy with it and I'm on board. WB seems totally content with letting their directors just barrel roll their vision into a film reel

Had to check what thread I was in here because answering that is getting into spoiler territory, I'm sure.

Of course this movie is a set up for the DC universe. I've always expected it to be. Would that stop me from enjoying it? Enjoy Batman and Superman together in a film for the first time? I highly doubt it.

It's been a while that most of CMB are designed as set-ups for bigger stories. Marvel did it whit Thor, Iron Man (2 and 3), Captain America...and they're still fun movies.

So to those who've seen it.

On a scale of 1-10 how misleading were all the trailers? 10 being most misleading.

Just curious.

Like a 7 or 8.

There's a lot shown, and a lot missing. And they clearly had a hard time marketing it, so they were rather deceptive with a few things.

I kind of figured the trailers and movie would kind of go down the way Halo 5 did, with a big clash teased, but most of the game/movie is spent with the protagonists getting along swimmingly. I'm guessnig that what is meant in the OP with the trailers being deceptive.

I hope there's even more deception to them though, as it kinda feels like I saw the whole movie already.

It's hard to say considering the story that many people built in their heads "lol trailers showed everything" are more likely to claim they were deceived. I'd say like maybe a 6 though. Enough to go either way.

As for my closing thoughts, this is like the Wrath of Khan, the Empire Strikes Back of superhero films. While I do see how The Dark Knight was that at one point, this film does it so well it is so easy to forget that movie for just a moment. The ideas and themes happen to mesh completely well with great written dialogue rather than having to hamfist and guess situations on their own, everything is written in such a clever way it's very hard to underestimate Snyder & Terrio now. GO SEE THIS MOVIE

5/5

Normally I'd go to the usual pitfall of Snyder trailers being better than Snyder movies, but I don't think that's right here. I also don't think there's a lot of bait and switch going on.
That's great to hear, considering I didn't think the trailers for this movie were all that great. Guess Thursday needs to hurry up and get here already.

YOU DID IT TOO!

I went to the school of Verendus, boy. I know how to watch my back.

Whoops, I meant to ask this in the spoiler thread. Too many to keep track of!
