This dude would have been a better final boss than Zod.

latest

He was actually kind of terrifying while Zod was a hysterical goon.

Naw. I don't get why people love that ending so much.

Best two comic book movie endings are "I had a date" at the end of Captain America 1 and the entire final scene of Batman Begins
It's subjective but yeah on somedays I'd agree with you. Gordon's monologue at the end of TDK though -- directly referencing and providing context for the name of the movie without being clumsy or hamfisted. All while Zimmerman's score reached its crescendo. It sent chills down my spine.

And for all of the shit I give MoS. I actually really liked, "Welcome to the Planet".

Best comic book movie endings for me in recent memory are tdk trilogy (despite tdkr's problems that Montage and music is so freaking good)

DofP with wolverine waking up in the mansion

Iron Man 1
Man of Steel

'Cause it was a big deal to see a superhero just out their identity in public like that.

All these years of movies saying "keep yer secret identity or your hot girlfriend will suffer" and just out of nowhere this asshole just clings to that fame.

Very very familiar with the philosophy and it has worked since children's books have been written for ages. the problem is these were used to enlighten the character, as it were, in this situation. he would have remained ignorant of his past were it not for these coincidences.

Yeah, and the coincidences aren't really getting him into trouble either. I suppose they're actual core plot devices. Which is pretty bad; when you hang your plot on a series of coincidences. (Hanging your plot on one key coincidence is cool.)

MCU ending rankings:

1) Cap 1
2) IM 1
3) I have forgotten literally all the other endings, so they couldn't have been that great.

On topic, I think the 30 minutes will help mostly by giving stuff time to breath. If the thing is too dense now, maybe that's because it was overcompressed, rather than overly long.

At the time, a big part of it was how it fit Tony's personality like a glove. For so long, superhero movies (apart from the X-Men franchise) belabored the whole secret identity plot thread. The movie set it up to make you think it would do the same and then turned that expectation on its head, because of course Tony Stark would think being a superhero is awesome.

Plus the follow-up song for the first half of the credits was perfect.

The only thing I want from BVS is that they learn to do what no comicbook movie has managed to do since Watchmen. And that is to know how to end a movie. Literally every single one of these things is impossible for me to watch a second time, all the way through.
Watchmen is the only one I can sit down and go through from beginning to end, because it has a third act that isn't a turd act.

Even Deadpool.
Go watch the movie again, and tell me with a straight face that you can sit through those last 30 minutes.

This is definitely a comic book movie third act.

That was a good one, and I still remember the pop the theater audience gave.

The worst thing about Deadpool's last act is how un-Deadpool most of it is. The whole 'trying to save my girl' schtick really doesn't work with him, I don't think. The film tried so hard to build that. The middle act, i.e. with no girlfriend, was the best act, IMO.

I liked the film well enough.

You should check out super girl. The show captures that superfeel perfectly.

In the previous episode she helpes young kid who was being bullied. And that's how the show just opens.
Man of Steel superman would have beat up the kid and joined the bullies. Then went to his parents house and shat on his mother's front porch.

Saw the first two hours of it last night in Seattle, then the stupid IMAX projector servers crashed and burned and lost all their files (not just Batman v Superman). After a half hour of them trying to fix it, they called it and told us to go home. So I haven't seen the last half hour or so of the movie.

From what I did see, I enjoyed it. I don't know if the last half hour can push me in any direction towards liking it more or less, but I can't give it a score or any real thoughts until I see it in full on Thursday. Action was great, very clear and nothing got lost or was too dark. Seeing some of those scenes in IMAX was insane. The clarity and scale was just so cool to see. Thought all the actors did a great job. I'll say this, whenever Gal was on screen, she had presence (our film broke before she actually showed up as Wonder Woman) and felt mysterious. Ben as Bruce/Batman felt tired, at the end of his rope, and just grizzled. You can tell he's seen some shit and is fed up with what's going on. Thought Cavill was great in all the scenes he was in. There were great unexpected scenes, which I'm glad I wasn't spoiled of going into it. Really enjoyed the Daily Planet stuff with Perry/Lois too. While I enjoyed Jesse as Luthor, I can see how others would be divided on his portrayal. I liked the quirks he had and his progression through the film. I think seeing it again before seeing the ending will help me get a better feeling of what worked and what didn't. To people comparing this to ASM2, you're crazy, this is so far from that. I'm someone that enjoyed Man of Steel, but didn't love it. Batman is my favorite character and Dark Knight is my favorite comic book movie. As of now, I still think DK is a better movie, but I think this Batman is a better Batman.

Same here. Those final seconds were a great little story told unto itself. the music buildup, the visual storytelling without the use of dogshit dialogue...it was a perfect moment on screen. who wrote that scene? I sure as hell wont buy that goyer did lol.

I think, alongside a few choice sequences in Watchmen (Manhattan's origin, Hollis Mason's death), the ending of Man of Steel is the best thing Snyder has done.

So it'll make an issue I have with the movie even worse?!

maaaaaaaybe.

A lot of people (myself included) thought the extra half hour put back in Fellowship of the Ring solved a lot of its pacing problems.

Then again, Jackson and Fellowship isn't maybe the greatest analog.

The Special Edition of The Abyss (Cameron's only special edition that's an improvement) reinserted a lot of interesting stuff that the movie ended up really needing in order to pack the punch it did. As a result, the film not only made more sense, but felt less disjointed, which improved the pacing.

I felt such a strong emotional connection to Clark. Its like my whole life flashed before my eyes. My relationship with my own father. My belief on God, everything changed after watching this. I lay in bed the night after watching it, and thought a lot about what I have done with my life up until that point. Had I done enough. What will I do with the next 10 years. Should I be a better man.

Man of Steel (Maybe the best depiction of a comic hero ever put to film) Any movie that can draw such emotion out of us, and make me question life and our purpose deserves a huge nod.

If you guys take the time to read the underlying themes, its really powerful stuff.

Well then.

I didn't mind MoS for all it's flaws. I didn't like how they couldn't nail that feeling of flying with the character, like that gif shows. Just too sporadic and jerky.

This looks great. I should catch up on that show...

I believe that was actually the first thing Goyer wrote for the movie? Something like that. I think it was going to be the beginning of the film at one point.

And yeah, Supergirl is probably the best live action Superman-related thing since 1980. It really gets at that Donner-y feeling, but updated pretty cleanly.

MoS one of the best movies of this Gen? I'm sorry but I will never forgive this movie on how they killed Papa Kent. The whole point of his death is to teach Superman that he can't save everyone with his powers. They stole that moment from him, and he could of saved him with out anyone noticing. I'm sorry that movie is a 5/10 at best.

I'm watching this right now while I work. Pretty good show-watching Supergirl fight the Master Jailer now.

But for real, here's the GOAT comic book movie ending

KFMIcW8.gif

Absolutely.

That scene is completely devoid of feeling.

Yeah, almost every attempt by that movie to elicit emotion was a terrible failure, especially that one; it felt so out of place that it was confusing why the movie decided to show him screaming after the fight as if it was supposed to make the audience not hate the movie even less. It was a completely tone deaf movie.
