This logic is busted. A 'killing' on disc and digital is $80m and that is CRUSHING it with family movies like Frozen and Minons where parents buy the movie to shut their kids up. The Golden Age of DVD where people OWNED movies is over. People will either Redbox or digitally rent it or wait for Netflix.

You dont think Star Wars is going to go nuclear on home video and people are going to wait to Netflix it? Well....alright lol

Oops #13 actually. Still, insane. Amazing legs.

No doubt.

And man, that top 10 is kinda dire. That's the landscape BvS is operating in and it's dropping 80% Friday-to-Friday?

Greek Wedding 2
God's Not Dead 2
Miracles From Heaven
Meet the Blacks
Eye in the Sky

Deapool's EIGHTH Friday, Zootopia's FIFTH, and Cloverfield's Fourth.

And it didn't even hit 16 million.

This is a movie with Batman and Superman in it for the first time ever.

Damn, was just going to bring this up. Superman's a bit more difficult because of the 'god' thing but that really has nothing to do with being hokey and outdated.

But yeah, they made this work:

Kirby-Captain-America.jpg

It's silly to say Superman is botched because he's outdated. The problem is that the people putting him on screen either don't understand him, or they don't want to
Cap works because they use the character as commentary on how America shifted between WW2 and today. Steve is a classic America patriot, in an era where patriotism requires support of values that are arguably un-American. Yet despite this conflict, he can still serve as a uniting symbol for the broken and disillusioned.

That's what Superman should be. A symbol of absolute good operating in an immoral world, constantly questioning his own relevance and role. Instead, Snyder writes him as an omnipotent God with almost no mind of his own.

OMG it is going to get crushed!

Prior to release: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Bad Boys III, Dark Universe: The Mummy (Tom Cruise), Kingsman 2, Cars 2
Same Week: Transformers 5
After Release: Despicable Me 3, Spider-Man, War for the Planet of the Apes, Alien: Covenant

Good lord! It is going to need to be amazing to do even Ant-Man type numbers!!

WOW, it's fucked if it's going up against Transformers.

If anything, we NEED an overly earnest hero on screen right now. With all the shit going on in the world, having a big Boy Scout being a hero, giving us some escape and semblance of hope. Superman and Cap were always like that for me, and right now only one is delivering. And that makes me sad. I want them both to be good.

i'm glad we at least had 2ish good/great superman films. they're a bit cheesy, but i can forgive them for that. christopher reeve totally owns the role and makes it real. we need something like that again. the animated series did a lot of good things too. i like braniac and darkseid in this version, and the theme song is a decent second place to the legendary john williams score.

Like I said, it's DOA if it keeps that date. Transformers will eat its lunch (especially ww) and so will the other films

However, those Cloverfield holds are nice.

And looking at the numbers, I honestly think Deadpool has a chance to beat BvS domestically.

Imagine those headlines. R-rated Deadpool beats PG-13 Batman v Superman in the US. Jesus.

This goes hand in hand with suggestions of bumping each film by one slot. Wonder Woman in empty November, addition time to get Justice League working for March 2018, Flash bumped to Aquaman's spot, and on it goes til Cyborg is knocked off the board.

I don't think we'll have to imagine em for too much longer. Whatever gap BvS had with its opening weekend is rapidly closing. Deadpool's 2nd weekend will be more than BvS's. Depending on how much it made today and how harsh the Sunday drop is, it could be closer to 10mil more.

You dont think Star Wars is going to go nuclear on home video and people are going to wait to Netflix it? Well....alright lol
I think it is doing well, but again, the Golden Age when EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER bought movies is over. I also think there is a large portion of people (myself included) where TFA is still fresh in my mind. I just saw TFA in theaters 43 days ago.
Also TFA (highest grossing domestic film of all time) is in a different spot than BvS when it comes to size and age of audience. I know families that have zero plans to take their kids to see BvS, but took them to see AoU and TFA.

Are you insane? Why would Disney give a shit about X-men or Fantastic Four when they have Batman and Superman? Like seriously.

That would be a horrible trade. Full DC rights for live action movie rights to X-Men and, the - at least for now - irrelevant FF? Not a chance in hell.

Um there is no way they would trade Batman and Superman for X-men and Fantastic 4.

Is it because of the history? Deadpool alone shows the potential in the X-men/mutants if done right (which Marvel would certainly do). Fox spent the last 16 years fucking up the potential they had in that property and honestly they fell ass backwards into Deadpool, director had to put them on blast to green-light it.

FF would be a monster under Marvel.

And even if Superman Returns is a deeply flawed film (stalker Supes), they still sold the goodness of Superman and him being willing to do anything to protect the people and do the right thing. That is something Snyder hasn't been able to do for more than a few moments so far. The only time he came remotely close was Clark saving the workers on the oil platform.

It's the first thing we actually see him do, too.

It's kinda hard not to think of it is "well, got that shit out of the way" in hindsight.

Is it because of the history?

It's because every aspect of the scenario in question is so unmoored from reality that to try considering it seriously for longer than three seconds will cause a fembot-level short-out.

WHAT!? They are seriously going to send it out to die like that? Holy shit! Here comes another poor preforming movie that they'll blame a female lead character for.

Also the airplane scene is arguably better than any action scene in the Snyder Superman films.

People hate on it, but I liked Superman Returns at parts, especially the intro where he saves the space shuttle upon reentry. It was so over the top heroic, him landing in a baseball stadium that roars with applause.

my man!

i can forgive a lot of superman returns just on the basis of it at least trying to be like the donner films. compared to the snyder movies especially, returns supes feels like superman to me.

You know

When you put it like that

It's like...fuck. That is dire. Everyones always wanted a Hollywood Batman Vs. Superman. When they showed the fake poster in I Am Legend, people went insane that Warner was teasing that. When they announced it, people were hyped beyond belief.

Batman and Superman. They're both iconic in their own right, right now is the prime time for a movie like that to be a hit. Thanks to the Batman movies from the late 80's to now, and Superman had his fair share of movies a bit earlier than that and leading up to now, most of the audience that grew up with those movies is in an audience range of 20-30 years old, prime viewership. It should be one of the biggest movies ever. Everyone knows Batman and Superman. Everyone.

It did none of that. Superman Vs. Batman is a movie that should be one of the best superhero movies ever. BvS is a movie that had so many fucking resources, taken so long to come out, think about how profoundly disappointing BvS is. It's a movie you keep thinking about, and coming out disappointed when faced with the reality.

It's the first thing we actually see him do, too.

It's kinda hard not to think of it is "well, got that shit out of the way" in hindsight.
Shit. I didn't think of that yet, but you are right. Like Snyder tossing the "hokey and outdated" Superman out like a pair of soiled underwear.

WHAT!? They are seriously going to send it out to die like that? Holy shit! Here comes another poor preforming movie that they'll blame a female lead character for.
Ugh. It is sad but true. This will probably be the narrative if it doesn't do well.

I'd watch any of those movies over WW honestly, except for Cars and Despicable.

This would be the smartest thing for them to do. But since it is smart, WB won't do it.

Also the airplane scene is arguably better than any action scene in the Snyder Superman films.

No arguments here.
i can forgive a lot of superman returns just on the basis of it at least trying to be like the donner films. compared to the snyder movies especially, returns supes feels like superman to me.
Yup. You actually felt some hope in it.

And the high provided at the end of the plane rescue is still awesome. The callback to the original film ("It's still the safest way to travel."), to the theme blaring up as you see Superman all over the tvs as everyone cheers. That is the feeling I want more often from a super hero film.

FF would be a monster under Marvel.

I mean history is pretty important. We are talking about trading DC for X-men and F4. Think about what you're saying. It's a terrible deal. You say F4 would be a monster? Then just imagine how a good Batman and Superman would do. Because people care way more about them than the Fantastic 4.

Hell, I haven't done this yet, have I. I think I've had time enough to reflect on it.

7) Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Hey hey hey hey don't throw Superman IV away like that. It's one of the best Superman movies. The fights between Superman and Nuclear Man were legit. That elevator fight scene had more passion in it than anything in BvS. Fuck, I should go watch it again, it's so good. That scene where the strand of hair is lifting that ton? Fucking amazing. And then they cut it, and Superman has to come in to stop the ton, because that's just who he is. He takes time out of his day to stop rolling balls. So good.

Ah ok. You're right. Disney setting up a 'DC Studios'....

Exactly. Ben Affleck ruined the movie.

All this comes back to rushed development of Superman Returns really.

If it was a bit more of a normal super hero movie (no gone for 5 years semi-sequel to 30 years old movies), they'd probably have a nice Justice League going on by now.
