No lie, I'm actually wearing my Superman hoodie right now, heh.

and yeah, it's looking like Zootopia and Deadpool are both going to outgross Batman v. Superman

We still haven't even gotten to MAY yet.

IS it the one with Doomsday fist through the symbol? Always wanted one of those

Friday and Saturday are estimated after the day has closed as they know about how they panned out, so the real variable is Sunday. They're estimating a 35% drop, which is reasonable if a bit optimistic for film tracking like this. But even a 40% drop only knocks the weekend down to $51m (which is probably closer to where it will land).

I'm well aware of it but everyone has been over estimating the gross for the movie, day to day. We just saw what happened on friday when it was estimated to gross 19 mill and sunk to 15.2 when the actuals came. So I'm agreeing with you. It will prob end up at 51 or 50 million

...Star Wars is still at #14 after 16 goddamn weeks, down 11% from last week. If Zootopia wasn't enough, that's hanging around to remind WB what kind of legs good movies get.

Right, just dialing in the extent to which it will shift. Sunday is really the only unknown at this point.

huh? Finding Dory is coming in June... I would be super surprised if that doesn't do insane numbers.

If Japan loves Zootopia and it goes on some kind of crazy Frozen run then it will hit 1B or more. That is why I said it may take the crown because Dory and to a lesser extent Ice Age 5 are still coming.

Warcraft comes out in the same month. I hope it does okay. According to wikipedia it has only a $100 million budget. Compared to other blockbusters its a bit more restrained.

Hopefully its good.

"For BvS to turn a profit in its theatrical release alone (before any ancillaries), the film would need to make between $925M-$930M worldwide."

Truly the FF XV of superhero movies.

Zootopia is going to easily hit $900M without Japan. I'm guessing that it will need around $70M in Japan to hit that $1B mark. About the same as Big Hero 6 grossed there.

Cant wait to see the actuals.

Damn at that title.

When Batman and Robin ends up having a better 2nd weekend drop than a franchise starter, you know someone's in deep trouble.

I would have accepted and would accept for next week the title of

Dying faster than Batman's parents.

So WB went with a 35% drop on Sunday which is probably on the optimistic side.

It needs to stay above $50.2M for the weekend (-45% Sun drop) to avoid taking the drop record from Hulk.

Interestingly, the revised Friday estimate is $100k lower than what they put out yesterday, and Saturday is even higher than what Rth/Deadline were reporting this morning.

We could be seeing some padding on Saturday in addition to an optimistic Sunday.

Yikes. I wonder when Zootopia passes it in weekly numbers.

Poor WB, they ran away from one Disney movie only to get beat by another.

Zootopia hasn't had a drop over 35.4%. May take the 2016 animated BO crown.

Finding Dory and Ice Age 5.

Are people just forgetting that there's a Disney princess movie coming out, or is it just expected to not do big numbers?

I think it will be close with Dory. I can see Dory doing TS3 type numbers.

Reposting my post from the Zootopia OT:

Thanks for the thoughts. I really want to take my kids to see it, but haven't got around to doing it yet. We're visiting some friends the week after next and they live a five minute walk away from a cinema complex, so I'll try to see it then.

Finding Dory and Ice Age 5.

Completely forgot about Ice Age 5. Good grief that franchise needs to be taken out back and shot. I quite liked the dinosaur one, but thought all the others have been mediocre.

I honestly thought Moana was 2017. It will probably do fine but I'm not sure if it can pull off 1B+ needed to take the crown. Unless Disney can pull off another Frozen.

Yeah, Moana is November, I think? Late September maybe?

They're gonna go on a nice litte run there at the end of the year.

Disney: Moana
Marvel: Doctor Strange
Lucasfilm: Rogue One

i think most are waiting to see footage of it first

Looks like Moana is getting the Frozen release date. Disney looking for gold again.

I'm not betting against Disney Animation at this point.
