A lot less people care if you fuck up transformers.

I cared when they fucked it up with the first one.

But after that my expectations were set and now I just hope that someday I might get to see Michael Bay make a Transformers movie with Unicron in it.

WB's response to the drop: "Making 52 million in a weekend is great! You're all crazy!"

"Highest-grossing comic book movie of the year"

...to date, that is. Beating Deadpool WW is setting the bar hilariously low.

But Goldstein is the same guy who claimed that BvS "doesn't take itself seriously" and that the worldwide opening was a full $100M bigger than WB had thought possible, so I guess that's actually pretty good spin by his standards.

If I'm being completely honest, I think a lot of my enjoyment of the first transformers stemmed from how ridiculously hot Megan Fox was in that movie. I was a sophomore in college iirc when it came out and it was Fox's breakout role before she had a ton of additional plastic surgery. The movie itself is nothing special but I remember walking out in a fairly good mood.

I'm not huge on the whole ogling hot women in films but Fox in Transformers is up there with Jessica Alba in Sin City as one of my personal all time hottest female roles in film.

That's about what I expected them to say. They'll likely make some money off this movie but they'll also make some adjustments moving forward. I'm not a stock holder but I like these movies so I hope we get more.

I love the action Snyder films but something, maybe at the script or story level, maybe in editing, needs some oversight.

Just hope it pays off in the next films.

Okay, this hate train has officially gone off the rails when y'all claim BvS was worse than Transformers.

C'mon now, those movies are abhorrent!

Transformers succeeds in its goals of being loud dumb action movies.

BvS is load and dumb while also attempting to be "Smart" and "thought provoking" and fails utterly.

I liked the Dark Knight Rises as well.

It wasn't as good as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (and I still think Batman Begins is a better movie than The Dark Knight; the main thing that movie has going for it is Heath Ledger's Joker; I think Batman Begins is better paced and acted all around; well, Katie Holme's Rachel Dawes is a little out of place, but she's not bad in it.

Rises was a good movie. Not great. Not phenomenal, but a good movie. It's absurd that critic culture has devolved into categories of "GOAT," and "Dogshit." There is room for movies that fill in that expansive gap between the two extremes. The Dark Knight Rises falls into that category.

Batman v Superman isn't even Dogshit. It's just not very good. Nor is it very bad. I personally think it's worth a rent at the most. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either. It was wasted potential overall. I wrote a long ass review about it, so I won't repeat myself here. I don't really think adding MORE to the movie in a 3 hour cut is going to do it many favors either. Personally, I thought there should have been less movie, not more. 2 hour run time, with some unnecessary bloat cut entirely (mainly the JL setup stuff that would work as after credits stuff, but really bogs the movie down when inserted into the main plot).

I'm very curious about fan edits of this movie, because I feel like the movie could be much better if it had better editing.
I agree with all of this.

People still have it set to 50 posts a page? In 2016

I ain't got time for scrolling through 100 posts per page! Especially with Gaffer's penchant for responding to posts with oh so funny gifs, then the other gaffers quote that gif a few dozen times, and it takes forever to load pages!

So, yeah, I stick to 50ppp. lol.

Transformers isn't trying to be dumb, it just is dumb. The scripts are trying to have romance, comedy, and action so as to appeal to as many people as possible. It tenuously succeeds in delivering good action, but is frequently let down by terrible camera work and overly busy designs + scenes with far too much going on. It's not funny, it's filled with abysmal cringe scenes and is sometimes borderline offensive. It has a romance plot, but it's not convincing or well acted. If you just want to watch hot girls then it succeeds on that front I guess.

I rarely agree with moviebob but his quote on Transformers 2 hit the nail on the head for me:

[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is] a two and a half hour black hole of douchebagness with a gravitational pull so strong, no joy can escape

What are you getting at??

Glad to see I'm not alone either, seriously loved the film and surprised at how it is destroyed and stepped on over here. Sure, it had a number of flaws and some plot holes to boot, but that barely took away from how much I loved the film.
GAF shits on everything but niche games that aren't getting enough credit or exposure.

Who is this GAF person, sounds like an asshole

It is great if you like the movie, but GAF us a community of people with difference of opinions but in this case the movie has not been well received in any circles.

It is truly fascinating to see this overwhelming negative reaction from the public and yet the exact opposite happens to Transformers which should be in the same boat. I'm not complaining.

10 more years of Bay.

I dunno. Transformers Age Of Extinction gets plenty of negative reactions even among casual viewers, which surprises me. The franchise just got lucky with its China niche.
I have doubts their next movie will hit a billion if domestic numbers keeps getting lower.

It really doesn't though.

Sure when the action starts, those movies deliver, but everything in between those scenes is absolute garbage. The downtime, which there is quite a lot of, in the TF movies are a thousand times worse than anything in BvS.

I'm no Bay hater either. The Rock and Bad Boys are two of my all-time favorites.

Ahhh come on. You gonna tell me you were thrilled during Lex's upeenth rambling God metaphor or mountain time with Supes?

I thought those were both great scenes.

But maybe I'm just crazy.

I wasn't bored for a minute. That's nonsense.

Opinions, duders.

I didn't find the movie boring even the second time around. But everyone is different. Some people have said it was boring in the various threads. They're not "wrong" even though not everyone agrees.

Thrilled? No. Interested? Sure. I may have not liked the movie, but I'm not bothered by giving characters some moments to look inwards. Frankly, Superman needed a helluva lot more moments to help humanize him and atleast figure out what the hell makes him likable, because the movie as is fails to do that.

I have no problem with slower scenes for characterization. I just feel like neither of the scenarios I cited accomplished that, which is why they bored me. Probably a discussion for another thread though,

Soo. We are in agreement that it is worse than The Dark Knight Rises and Transformers. The real question is how does Batman Vs. Superman compare to Alien Vs. Predator.

I never agreed to that. DKR, sure, it's notably better than BvS. But the Transformers movies are reprehensible garbage.

Worse than Rises, better than Transformers. Better than AvP.

likewise for me as well.

I really feel word of mouth killed this one. Bay is a hack but word of mouth said that transformer is still a good summer blockbuster flick to sit thru.

Regardless , the damage is done and now I feel changes are being made to ensure better results by the time JL comes around.

what changes , who knows , but if snyder was hen pecked before ......oh god . Imagine afterwards...amirite?!

Definitely gonna impact Justice League, WB was so sure Snyder was the guy, I mean, why else would they immediately put him on Justice League before they're even sure Batman v. Superman would be a hit.

I have not seen the movie so I have no opinion on its sales performance. But I will say that Jesse Eisenburg as Lex is one of the most bizarre casting choices ever. Also, that utterly horrible line from the trailer: "Son of Krypton vs. Bat of Gotham"

Seriously? "Bat of Gotham"? Who the hell wrote this?

Basically..

50 ppp is how I started gaf, and damn it, that's how I'm gonna end it!

White theme 50ppp baby

I initially changed to the dark theme to better conceal my browsing at work. But I've had it on so long that I've become acclimated to it. :(
