Giant Bomb: PS4.5 / PS4K is codenamed NEO, more info

I can't wait for the OG ps4 fanboy cult to form.

*resist the new world, never upgrade*

*we are the originals, the console freedom fighters*

*console iterations are a betrayal, we must fight it*

"My wallet ain't crying but those PS4K launch buyers? HA! I bet their wallets are crying!"

Man. I wasn't really worried about this but now I am. Since I bought my PS4 at launch, I hope there isn't much of a difference in the games between the two. If there is, this is really gonna make me regret getting a PS4.

They're probably gonna push performance like they usually on PS4 and then smooth out the framerate and increase the resolution on Neo, that's all

So...
Uncharted 4 is definitely getting a 60fps patch for this, huh? Seems like an easy way for ND to take advantage of the extra power without putting in much effort/time/resources/money.

Imagine U4 looking as good as it does now but running at 60fps. Yum!

Has to be right?

Probably a decent way to get more 'launch titles.'

Is there any consensus on where this GPU falls in real world performance yet? I'm seeing 390 and 380 being thrown up a lot but there's a big difference between those two cards.

Why are we freaking out over someone saying neat, i need someone to fill me in.

ntkrnl had the biggest leak probably in the history of GAF.

Literally leaked an entire years worth of the Xbox Division plans, including Forza Horizon 2, Master Chief Collection, Scalebound and multiple others.

Them being in this thread is a MASSIVE deal

There will be no split generation versions. There is a PS4 and a PS4+ that has prettier graphics. They play the same damn games

Sorry I did read the article I know there are no Neo exclusive games. My terminology was poor, I am concerned about going through a time when we saw devs making PS3, XB360, PS4, Xb1 versions of the same game.

One big advantage consoles had is that it had the same machines across the board and games improved significantly as the gen matured because devs grew so familiar with the machine. That advantage goes away here.

Just remember how little representive this place is of the wider market.

People are just mad their safe little bubble is being popped (with a bit of pretty blatant warriors taking up arms as well)

Whatever. Im pretty much done with this discussion. Its coming, its gonna be a good thing for the system, im personally down for day one.

Same here. Some people here are acting like children, if this thing is 399$ its a fucking steal and any real gamer that really cares about performance and has the funds will jump in, and the people that were happy with ps4, you can still enjoy it, just like before you will have some third party games that run like shit, it's just with ps4k you won't have to worry about that cause the main target for developers will be ps4.

Seriously makes me wonder what happens when someone like Activision of EA says "we don't want to support this NEO mode, we don't have time, so we're not gonna, and if you really don't like it, we just won't come back next time around."

Sony points to their 40 million unit install base and asks if EA or Activision wants to leave it.

Hmm... I'm not sure. If they're telling the truth, and it's as slight an upgrade as it is, I would probably just be better off investing in a good desktop(finally) and keeping my ps4 for exclusives. I'll have to wait and see to see if it's both worth it, and if there are deals for trade in.

Nah, I'm just here to fanboy.

I got really excited by the rumors about an iterative PS4 some time ago and this got my dander up again.

This for sure. Provides a legit opportunity to further the marketshare, especially right before US holidays and Christmas.

(I will buy one day one. No shame.)

Yup, given that you can get a brand new PS4 for €249 at some times (Germany), a $/€199 price tag for the old one - at some point - doesn't sound that implausible anymore. Would hype it on PS2 levels for sure.

Which is interesting we have still heard nothing about their next machine. Its really damn impressive how close MS is keeping that to their chest. They either are very early in the R&D of it or have that thing on absolute lockdown internally.

Well we did just get that patent reveal not too long ago so I'm sure the rumor mill will be churning pretty soon.

I don't think every game will have a huge graphical advantage over the PS4, Maybe some first party games will, but third party devs will not invest too much on it IMO.

I was going to get another PS4 once they announced some kind of slim so this sounds just as good to me. Big question is, is this official official yet or still just rumor? Oh well E3 isn't too far off, I'm sure if its a real a reveal will happen around that time. Interested to see if they change the design at all.

Look at the difference in the specs between the PS3 and the PS4. Then look at the difference in the specs between the PS4 and "Neo".

There is your answer.

there's always the possibility that there isn't one however unlikely that may be to some people

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing although these leaks are certainly starting to look more and more like controlled demo gauging. I am of the mind that MS has their machine ready to go but have actually played it close to the vest after the whole xbone disaster and early leaks.

Sony points to their 40 million unit install base and asks if EA or Activision wants to leave it.

And EA shrugs and says "we'll get back to you".

Or maybe something along the line of "if you want us to put in this mode that ads on another 20 million on our bottom line, you're going to pay for it."

But of course, that's only if they make NEO mode worthwhile. The negative side of me thinks that neo mode is going to be little more than games at 1080p with an uncapped framerate that hits a minimum of 30. If it hits 60, great. But most games will probably hover at an inconstant 45-50, which isn't really helping anyone.

Oh hey I hear you, I don't want you to leak a damn thing here. You've already done more than enough in your time here.

I'm just saying its cool to see you around again :-)

Glad to see you are ok!

The more cynical part of me wants to say we haven't heard much about MS' device because they aren't communicating as much with devs.

40 million and growing userbase. You really expect EA to cry so much about a minimal SKU testing effort that they would cut Sony off to any big degree?
