This is what happened when consumers make a countdown of a financial briefing.

Eh, I don't think it's quite as out there as it's been for some other financial briefings. This is a timeframe where there's significant recent precedent that we could get some deets about the next system(s). Even still, we have gotten plenty of tantalizing tidbits at past investor briefings so I'm not convinced it's a mistake to look forward to these to begin with, as long as expectations are kept on check. But again, this one is potentially a bit of a special case so I am hoping for some info or a timeframe of when to expect it, and based on Nintendo's previous reveals that seems reasonable.

I realized that, but the point is that this isn't part of Nintendo's communication to customers. This is us literally looking at corporate reports and extrapolate what we're going to play in the next year. It's not stupid, not even close, it's just....unique. It's kind of fun tbh.

Folks I am just as keen to hear about the NX as anyone else but can we all calm down and stop speculating..... its a financial report which means there is no requirement for any details of the new system other than projected sales.....

I see where you're coming from regarding these briefings in general, because the enjoyment or satisfaction one gets out of them is going to really depend on what level of detail and what kind of information they expect. When it turns out that we get a hint at something like amiibo happening, that's exciting to me less for my own interests necessarily and more because it gives me an indication of what the company is planning. As I said though, this particular week is a special case because of the precedent for a press release or at least some information about NX, perhaps even as limited information as just when we can expect to hear more about it. After NX near-radio silence for over a year, that alone seems more worthy of hype amongst Nintendo fans than these investor meetings might normally be. But we'll see what if anything of substance comes from all this!

But the chances are when the countdown reaches zero you get nothing for the next day or so.

That in itself can be indicative of quite a lot. Especially since after WiiU, Nintendo will be hesitant about over-estimating sales forecasts.

Well, for me when this countdown reaches zero, is tomorrow early early AM, so I get the next chance of any info tomorrow evening if someone releases info just after the investor meeting; I'm expecting if anything super significant comes out of any of the three events we'll know pretty quickly. But regardless, the press release possibility in re: NX name and/or info date, the precedent would be for that to come out anywhere between 20 and 34 hours from now. So if something like that is happening this week, I expect to know tomorrow-ish.

Primary thing which Nintendo need to make sure with nx is that it has ingredients to support relevant features of Middleware as it is on other platforms. It doesn't need to be 4k just enough to support those features but must be bit better than ps4. This is also to give assurance to consumers unlike wiiu. If Nintendo captures good number of consumers in the first year many of the third party will start supporting them. But the games within the first year should give all type of genres to create understanding which type of consumers are there. Nintendo marketing and strategy people have big job to do..

I mean

how many details do we truly expect to come out of an investors briefing though...

Nintendo needs to inform the investors what to expect and how to make money this coming fiscal year. We will get info about a handheld and the console. We might able to get list of supporting softwares but I don't think any pictures will be there

Look, a rational post! Nintendo needs balance and competitiveness in their hardware, features, and controller. Then, equally as important they need that initial first party catalogue to present some type of variety in theme and genre. I think the Wii did that somewhat (just software launch).

Worst case
We are releasing a console and handheld with some software which will give us this much revenue

Reasonable case
We are releasing a console and handheld with some of the big software names which give us this much revenue. Something about the nx ecosystem. Full reveal will be at e3

Best case
We are releasing a powerful console and handheld with these specs. Show the picture. Show the list of partners. Pictures. Nx ecosystem. E3 for more info

Are there two different meetings?

-Tonight Nintendo will release their report.

-Tomorrow night (Wednesday night/Thursday morning in America), will be when Nintendo has the investors meeting where they tell the investors what they have prepared for the future.

So what meeting are they having after they release their report tonight? I thought what matters is the investors meeting which is actually Wednesday night/Thursday morning where Kimishima sits up there and presents the presentation slides?

Worst case for me is them not mentioning a handheld at all ;)

Giving projected sales confirm once and for all that it's launching this FY, and how much they project may hint at how many devices to expect. They'll also more than likely confirm when to expect the first details.

I think for them to get confidence of investors they need to give something which give them the reason to wait.. Statement would be... 'we are releasing handheld and console this fiscal year but look for the details soon'

You don't need to worry about that one. Not supporting modern engines would require Nintendo to go out of their way to use extremely old hardware. When I say old, I'm talking no newer than a 2010 GPU and reusing the GCN/Wii/Wii U CPU again, or going in a totally different direction with only a handheld and a PSTV-type device. As for being more powerful than PS4... Yeah, don't set your expectations that high. Go for 5-20% better than XBone to be safe. Something like 14CUs @850MHz (1.5TF) for the GPU and a faster CPU.

Whether they discuss a HH at all is going to depend potentially on whether one is coming this FY. If the HH doesn't launch till summer 2017, they may not mention it.

Here's the rundown for ya, DC.

At approx. 3:15 AM EST, which is 4:15 PM Wednesday afternoon in JP, the fiscal results will come out. There will probably be a small press conference. It's unknown how much if any info will come out of this.

At approx. 9 PM EST tomorrow evening, which is 10 AM Thursday morning in JP, the investor briefing will take place. We may not receive any information from it until afterwards, since live tweeting may now be prohibited, but if anything huge comes out we should know soon after.

With 3DS and Wii U, presuming NX does come this year, we're right about in the timeframe of when we can expect a general press release from NCL saying "NX is a new way to play games and eat Mario-themed toast. Please look forward to a full reveal on such and such a date." They might say it is releasing this year. Theres a precedent for this press release happening, but with Kimi-san at the helm, who knows whether they'll change things up (this same info could come at one of these events instead or as well) and what they'll say about NX at any of these events, but if it is coming out in some form this year, now is the time for Nintendo tongive investors a strong indication of this I think. I hope.

Since Japan is slowly going to bed, expect nothing for the next ~10 to 12 hours, if I'm not mistaking.

I'm not 100% convinced a PR will precede the actual earnings release, but it should giving their history.
Once again, I don't expect much details, just a quick word on the name, form factor(s) and/or concept, and a rendez-vous to E3.
If nothing happens... expect -10% on the market share.

Yes, I'm aware. In fact I expected this response because you usually do it almost like a copy-and-paste :p

I don't think this is a real problem, actually. The PS4K and the supposed X1.5 are not a sure thing for this year and even if they make an appearance, they're just revisions of existing consoles. I think I read somewhere Sony even won't make PS4K exclusive titles. Besides, those consoles are apparently launching next year, people will hype the closest releases. The PSVR is a closer competitor for this E3 and this is "just" an unproven expensive peripheral and don't forget the people can't experience it if they're not in Sony's booth.

If the PSVR and the new revisions overshadows NX this E3, being a completely new console, supposedly full of new exclusive games, a new brand concept, and the culmination of years of internal work and restructuring at Nintendo, then the NX is not that good and won't matter if they show it tomorrow or at the Expo, IMO.

You also keep saying again and again about the "time to get the hype" and I don't get it, honestly. The hype will get out the roof (if the games are there and they're good) in a matter of hours/days. And then, Nintendo will just need to keep the hype doing mini Directs across the summer. In fact, even if they show the console today, if the product isn't good, the hype won't be there. Keep in mind even the years that Nintendo kinda screws E3, many people believes they're the "winners" just because some games or the presentation. It's easy the get it right: Nintendo just needs to do the opposite of E3 2012 lol.

Anyway, I hope I'm wrong and they show the console and games before E3 and don't do it staged across the summer, but I sincerely doubt it. I'll gladly eat crown though :D
The problem is that Nintendo is falling into irrelevancy, so it'll be even harder for them to get the masses to give a shit. Competing with the industry leader will get Nintendo nowhere. If they want to make more headlines, Nintendo has to get their own spotlight without having to share. As for the time to hype, having so many Directs during the summer may burn people out on the platform if Nintendo isn't careful.

Yeah

Their silence at this point speaks to me as being confirmation that they are lining up for E3

Their silence can also mean that the have nothing to show.

Also they have promisef again and again to end software droughts , so im expecting thw worst and being very careful after buying a 3ds on day 1
