Now, to bring this to topic about NX. I hate to say it, but Studio Ghibli is not that mainstream. Not to blockbuster level, at any rate. I say the probability of Final Fantasy XV outperforming Zelda NX is high, based on presentation and not just the fact that PS4 is already a solid hit. FF XV will help keep the PS4 running. Will Zelda NX help NX get off the ground? I doubt it, unless the tone shifts to something more akin to LoTR/OoT/TP's reveal trailer, or some kinda of breakthrough elsewhere.
I'd argue NX could very well be a hit, and Zelda NX could very well sell no better than SS did, while having NX's whole life span to sell.
Summary: Masses wanted TP. Masses didn't care much for SS. Masses don't care much for Zelda U/NX at this time.
I still think Zelda has potential to grow bigger than TP/OoT though. If it ever will remains to be seen.
Saying Zelda U doesn't appeal to the masses with its artstyle while FFXV does with its boy band looking protags seems ironic. I think both will end up selling between 4-7 million copies.
I had a response halfway typed up but after eating supper and watching some basketball, I lost my train of thought and cannot even see what you are arguing here so I'm just going to try and stop you from continuing this stupidity. Zelda has never been Tolkien-inspired like the series you want it to copy and that's never going to change. Doing so would not make the series better or pump out sequels faster or bring it back to the forefront of the gaming industry which was the entire crux of your argument until I replied to you. The only 3D game that had outright disinterest was WW and we will never get a game with that cartoony style again. SS was a different situation that had way more going against it than its artstyle so it shouldn't be brought up unless you want to be openly disingenuous.Zelda no longer being especially inspired by Western fantasy/RPGs doesn't change that that's where the series came from, and moreover "Zelda stopped doing ______ a long time ago" is a really weird argument to make when even the creators of the series are behaving as though they need to change what they've been doing lately.
I mean, that's like looking at Wii U and saying "Nintendo stopped trying to compete in consoles a long time ago" and then trying to pass that off as though Nintendo should be praised for making consoles that are unappealing. I don't think anyone is thinking about NX in any other terms than how well it succeeds at fixing all the problems that Wii U had; likewise, I'd imagine Nintendo is trying to think about Zelda in terms of how well it succeeds at fixing all the problems people had with the other recent games - including outright disinterest.
The series needed to make some changes to keep from becoming stale which was bound to happen after being on the market for 30 years. Copying every other adventure game/RPG with a sword is not going to help the series in the long term.
