Did the 20 hours pass yet?

It's not that big of a deal if we don't get any goods today because it's just another hurdle that we're passing until we get to the main event at E3 which will have the goods. Anything to pass the time!

Heh. I know most of you guys are well aware of expectations with these briefings, but I've been on 'GAF long enough to witness the madness that usually follow things' like these when many run amok with their wild imaginations...

The absolute best case scenario here is that we get a "NX coming this year. We'll talk about it closer to/at e3" from the briefing.

Expecting anything more is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Yep.
Amplified reactions after this fiscal meeting, whatever the announcements are, if any, will be there anyway. I mean, we have drama for a removed tweet of a random youtuber, so this...?

To be fair, before Nintendo Directs they did actually make a few announcements during these briefings.

I expect:
-Console shown
-Outline of what they're trying to accomplish
-Maaaaybe one game

If they were going to announce something important they would have said something already, right?

I'm not expecting anything at this time, maybe with the exception of a "we will talk about NX in the future" and if we are lucky maybe a date of when they plan to do it.

All three of those expectations are wildly overblown imo. It's a financial briefing. For investors. At most they'll tell us if it's coming this fiscal year.

Expecting a game seems like a recipe for disappointment, unless you are expecting the next mobile game. There's no precedent for this in the last several years unfortunately. I hope to be wrong, though!

To your question: not necessarily. The press release if brief as it has been in the past, wouldn't be something they'd necessarily or even likely announce in advance. But, I agree with what you said, because I don't expect any NX-related announcement at these events to be much more significant than you described. But, I'd be thrilled to be wrong of course.

Exactly.

Another small possibility is to tell us a (probably vague) date to look forward to for more information, whether E3 or 'near future' or something like that.

Looking forward to disappointment this time tomorrow.

Can't believe how much this is being hyped up.

But I wouldn't be too surprised if we get some indication of whether NX is/isn't coming this fiscal year.

The problem is that Nintendo is falling into irrelevancy, so it'll be even harder for them to get the masses to give a shit. Competing with the industry leader will get Nintendo nowhere. If they want to make more headlines, Nintendo has to get their own spotlight without having to share. As for the time to hype, having so many Directs during the summer may burn people out on the platform if Nintendo isn't careful.

I can agree with the bolded, it'd help Nintendo indeed but it's not indispensable if they do a good presentation, the NX will steal the show regardless the "market leader", IMO.

And don't agree with the italicized. The thing that can burn people out is reveal the thing too soon and not saying anything else for months. If they publish a ND each month after E3 they can sustain the hype (for example, in July announce a new game, previously unknown, maybe a third party exclusive; in August a Direct about online elements, Miiverse evolution and that stuff; in September announce the final date, price and lineup and the final look of launch games; in October do an unboxing and a final look at the OS). I don't think a schedule like that would burn people out.

Yeah I'm excited because we're in this shit now, from tomorrow onwards the next frontier begins, one which will hopefully lead to a new, prosperous generation, an out with the old and in with the new sort of thing, or maybe not, either is fun and exciting. Wii U and 3DS are still sticking around, we have a new Pokemon game out this holiday but the road to E3 is getting ever smaller and the NX is getting closer, that is an inevitability and no lack of info today will change that, and like you said, I'm sure people here will find lots to talk about in regards to the briefing.

That alone is big news worthy of hype, though (IMO).

I don't disagree with what you said at all really but I think holding any E3-ready announcement till July for example is a potential mistake. Potentially, fewer eyes will be on NX outside of E3 and I think they should take full advantage of that opportunity to show as many launch and launch window games as possible.

I'm here for the fun, like hyping the tiniest chances of getting actual news :lol
I don't believe we'll get anything major but in a few years we'll be nostalgic while thinking about how crazy we were, just like with the WUST.

I think every kid needs to have a talk before growing up.

You know, THE talk.

"Don't set your expectations too high all the time or you'll always be disappointed" and "Be happy with what you have, just because someone else has something you don't doesn't mean it's better."

Would reduce the amount of threads and posts on gaf by 800%.

I'm not expecting much in terms of new hardware (or software) info that we can really chew on. That said, I'm still curious as to what's going on with Nintendo from a financial standpoint.

There will something worth reading from the investor meeting, anyway.

At the very least, I expect them to reveal the name.

You hear me, Kimishima?
Do we even know if they have a name yet? Serious question. Maybe it's the last thing they care about.

That does bring up the point about where the Nintendo Directs have gone. Think they'll maybe announce a date for the renewal of doing Directs and announce some things during that, keeping the announcement free?

I guess it all comes down to what in the world this thing is and how "difficult" it may be to get people to understand the concept. If they think it may take a while, I don't know if they'll do the "we'll just wait until E3 to let them play it" without showing off some things before then. They may have some surprises (especially games) in store for E3, but I'm hoping for a console name (LOL Pinky!), strategy for what they may be doing different this time around (what is their Nintendo-like solution this time?!), and what they hope to accomplish with the NX (increase the user base, appease the fans, etc.).

If they were going to show the console or any games ahead of E3 they'd have schedule their own event, akin to Spaceworld or the Xbox One/PS4 reveals. They're not going to unveil their new machine to the world at a fuddy duddy financial briefing.

I'm sure they have a handful of ideas, if not the final name by now. If it's this year, they definitely have at least a few they're throwing around.

What do you mean where the directs have gone? We just got one last month.

Please don't expect this kind of information out of a financial briefing. Expect this during a future event or E3. 3DS name was sent out in a memo and then revealed at e3 2010. Wii U was silent and name/tech demo revealed e3 2011, with final design and some games revealed e3 2012. Shortly before launch, they had a press event detailing launch date/price, launch titles, and announcing future titles, like bayonetta 2 and MH3U.

Please everyone, stop getting too excited. AT BEST we MIGHT get a name (doubt it) and we MIGHT get told to look forward to more information at a future date (possibly e3). That's it. Please stop overhyping yourselves. :/

I really really really don't want this thread to devolve into "oh god nintendo, nothing again? doomed" for the next 20 pages.

:P

It's from E3 2012 and in no way real, in case you're wondering.

Agreed. I just hope that they'll announce that they're doing an event/direct before E3, and maybe if they're doing a NWC this year.

Though I could see them revealing the name at the meeting. Still a big if

Yes exactly, just the way they did with wii.. But hopefully better for core gamers this time around.. Crossing the fingers ☺️

They announced the Wii name at the investors meeting. The official NX name is definitely in the cards for a reveal.

Yes, but the console was already a known thing. The console and controller had been revealed the year prior.

We don't know anything about NX yet, revealing the name is such a meaningless statement by itself.

Osaka Press Club then. I'll see if I can get some images of that venue.

Hmm. I see.

I guess my only expectation is for Kimishima is to say NX will release this year and/or we will reveal NX at "_____".

I am excited about the games reveal video or tech demo.. Reminds of the time with wiiu birds demo and link's video... It was good and exciting time..

Are people seriously expecting much of anything from this

besides "we're announcing our shit at E3 hold the fuck on"

If they were going to show the console or any games ahead of E3 they'd have schedule their own event, akin to Spaceworld or the Xbox One/PS4 reveals. They're not going to unveil their new machine to the world at a fuddy duddy financial briefing.

3DS and Wii U were officially announced in press releases around this same time four and six years ago, respectively. I don't expect anything other than an official announcement of the system in a brief press release with very few details, including when we'll learn more about it and perhaps what its name is. There's a precedent for that so I don't think it's unrealistic. I also expect a strong indication as to whether it's coming this fiscal year. Granted it's not that different than the example you gave, but I don't think that's the same as no info at all. So for me it's worth looking forward to. It's not about it being an event for investors insofar as I'd expect some big blowout where they show off the system--I agree with you that a reveal before E3 would likely involve a significant press conference and/or Direct--but the fact that it is for investors means we might learn something useful that they intend to be applicable knowledge for investors, i.e. especially whether the system(s) is coming this FY.

Do we even know if they have a name yet? Serious question. Maybe it's the last thing they care about.

As another poster said, if the system(s) is coming this year, they at least have a few names they're bandying about. I doubt it's of little importance to them since the name is so crucial to selling the system. For better or for worse, all the recent system names are ones they clearly put a lot of thought into, with interestingly polarizing results.

I agree with you completely and this reflects my expectations as well. Like you my primary concern for the system is how clear it's concept is compared to the understandable difficulty they have conveying the appeal and concept of the Wii U. (BTW, as to Nintendo Directs while I do wonder if we will get an update on the new format those are planned to take this year, we did just get one on 3/3 so I don't necessarily expect news on them in general just yet.)
