The goal shouldn't be to just to "win E3", the goal should be to maximize the positive PR for NX between now and the system's launch.
I think it makes logical sense to reveal some things before E3, so that third parties can announce games for the system and so that Nintendo can control the messaging instead of having stuff leak out whenever hardware dev kits finally start shipping to everyone. Also they could have all eyes on Nintendo when they reveal that stuff instead of going on their traditional Tuesday spot which is a crazy news day.
You'd still have most of the games library to reveal and the system playable for E3.
With CoD set to be announced next week, they're going to make a huge mistake if they don't announce the name this week. Knowing Activision, if it misses the original reveal they probably won't even announce the NX version until a month before release, and very quietly.

I can see what you're saying, but it seems it isn't always the beste choice.
Looking at the past:
*Nintendo revealed the wiimote before e3 ->
Answer Sony: revealed a controller with tilt sensor movement at e3
*Nintendo revealed the wiiu gamepad before e3 ->
Answer Sony: revealed vita connection with ps3 at e3
Answer MS: revealed tablet connection with xbox at e3
It doesn't matter because CoD and games of its ilk won't sell on NX, and most of them probably won't even come to the platform at all.
Let the dream die, folks.

How is that a Nintendo mistake? The decision to announce that game is only in Activision's hands. Unless you're implying Nintendo needs to moneyhat third parties to get treated with equity...This is one of the many mistakes nintendo made with the wii u. Big games like this need to be announced with the other consoles.
This is a bad post. Then why even bother to open your portfolio of games to attract more customers? Who cares if they all don't come? The point is you have them and you change your image so the kids at school can say "yeah call of duty is coming to the NX too!" The NX will get to be in more conversations with games like COD and Madden and FIFA...It doesn't matter because CoD and games of its ilk won't sell on NX, and most of them probably won't even come to the platform at all.

Same here. I still have mine from my launch Wii U.Things break. Mine has been going strong.

NDA.
Remember Nintendo e3 Wii U reveal ? Not a single third party conference talked about Wii U. Nintendo's conference was the last one. Way to impress.

Not true.
Ubisoft revealed ZombiU, Just Dance WiiU, and even had an on-stage demo for Rayman Legends.
Yes, you're right, I don't like that either and part of the reason I want Nintendo to announce the NX before E3 is because that way third parties will (perhaps) be able to announce NX versions of their games at their own conferences. But in the case of Activision and CoD, IIRC they didn't confirm the Wii U version until a month or two before launch... far far away from that E3... And that's just s**ty and not Nintendo's fault, I believe. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm mixing things up, too much data on my brain...NDA.

They won't sell sure. But that doesn't stop them from at least throwing a test game or two at a new console regardless, especially if its easier to port to. Heck, even the Wii U got BO2 and Ghosts.
Then none of this matters and they shouldn't even bother with third-parties, right? Seriously, this is such a stupid, short-sighted way to think. "Nintendo, you don't even stand a chance of getting third-party support, so don't even try!" Why even bother making hardware in that case? They should be trying to change that. They shouldn't just accept it and move on, and if they do they should go completely to the other extreme and make a $99 console.
This type of attitude is how you guarantee that NX will be the flop of the century.

A month isn't enough time to add a new feature like that... Also, what are you talking about? Wii U was revealed at E3 2011.
My Wii U cable still works but is a bit finicky. Certainly not the greatest quality.Wii U pack-in HDMI cable is shit. Broke after two years of usage despite not being bent or pressed on.
The OP is broken, I don't see a countdown.

I believe we only have an estimate of time when the news conference will start. But I'll update the OP with a countdown in due time. The OP is broken, I don't see a countdown.
Don't see how revealing name matters. If CoD is coming to NX, nintendo can tout it at E3. Activision doesn't have to reveal full platform list at CoD reveal. Especially not for a console that hasn't been formally announced yet.
Wouldn't be the first time CoD added platforms after reveal. http://kotaku.com/so-call-of-duty-ghosts-is-coming-to-wii-u-911249188
Lemme just break down my logic here.
1. The 17-35 Western male demographic coveted by AAA third parties is already being exceptionally well served by Sony and MS.
2. Consequently, the only chance Nintendo has of making any real inroads with that demographic is with significant exclusive content targeting that demographic.
3. The only way to secure such content in time for NX launch would be if, several years ago, Nintendo had started investing massive amounts in first-party Western development well beyond the scope of their partnerships with the likes of Monster and NLG, and in moneyhatting third-parties.
4. In the past few years, I haven't seen a single rumor indicating that any such investments have been made, and it seems unlikely that they could keep such a huge sea change in their approach to Western development under wraps entirely for that long.
5. Consequently, I expect that NX, as with the last few Nintendo consoles, will have little to no exclusive content aimed at that demographic, and thus no real hope of making inroads into the Sony/MS market.
They have literally no chance of being considered as a credible alternative to Sony/MS if their advantages are limited to slightly better graphics and "our system has both CoD AND Mario on it!" Period.
Yes, but the gamepad was leaked in may -> before e3

That doesn't solve the "quietly" issue.
So then they should go third-party, since their hardware serves no purpose and there's no way to fix that. That's what you're saying here.
!!!
I crunched some numbers and if

then
![]()
meaning "NX" must equal G. G-Spot.

Me? Imma wait and see what happens. If it's easy and cheap to port the games, they'll give it a chance. Wii U and Wii were not easy to port to, and ports were less common/necessary in generations prior. There's no comparable situation to speak of here.

I've made no secret of my opinion that their hardware business is probably fucked no matter what, but they have a much better chance (relatively speaking) of reviving it by doubling down on first-party software and whatever Japanese partnerships they can scrounge up than they do by trying to compete directly with Sony/MS for the Western core market.
Easier porting certainly won't hurt, but it's a passive thing. It's not a substitute for an actual answer when, say, Bethesda asks them what they're doing to actively cultivate an audience for the likes of Elder Scrolls VI on NX.

Countdown to a countdown being added to the OP.
Same here. I still have mine from my launch Wii U.
I think that's a bit too much.
Like, a whole asylum of too much.
Then they should just have a handheld that connects to a TV and nothing more.
All that I know is that packing it in without even trying is how businesses slowly but surely die. .
I feel like people expecting an announcement of anything before E3 are setting themselves up for disappointment. And I'm as excited about NX as anyone.
Does anyone know what Kimishima has for breakfast on the morning of a FY Investor Meeting/Briefing/Q&A? If we can find out what he eats for breakfast, this could clue us in to what he may or may not say about NX. A few ingredients might even suggest the direction they're taking the next 3D Mario game. I'm just trying to be rationale here.
They're not. They've fundamentally reshaped their company structure to ensure they have an attractive product or family of products with plenty of content from day one - and after generations of failed attempts at getting western third parties to do part of the job they've realized a way to do it on their own. Western third parties may come, and may still be wooed by Nintendo, but now they're capable of succeeding independent of that.
Rösti;201922091 said:Dr. Toto perhaps meant the press club (sometimes called press room) at the Osaka Stock Exchange, where Nintendo usually holds these news conferences. The press club I believe is connected to the TDnet (Timely Disclosure network): http://www.jpx.co.jp/equities/listing/tdnet/
If that is the venue it's a very simple room that you can see in images I have previously posted (the one where both Mr. Kimishima and a bunch of press members are seen). But I'll check if I can find additional photos.
Timely disclosures are listed here: https://www.release.tdnet.info/inbs/I_main_00.html

I will see to making a new thread about the news conference specifically should there be enough interest.
Actually... It might not even need one of those.
No!!! I will not get my Uncle Tatsumi involved!!!
Whooooops......
