Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

Man, I hate to say it but I may have got a bad pressing. Loud pops at certain times. I'm going to do a big test with some other stuff and my friends equipment to double check, but I may have to try and get an exchange

Got my Black Materia (White Limited Edition) today. Sounds amazing and the art is very impressive. Glad to have this one in my collection.

My Sword & Sworcery anniversary LP was delivered today.

The art is great, but it's the sort of cheap-feeling matte paper material that I don't particularly like. Sounds wonderful, though!

Pretty sure that's how all the releases are (I think I've got the first or second pressing?) if that helps any.

iam8bit had some Perfect Dark copies available a couple of weeks back, so I picked up a copy. I have to say, it's probably my favorite vinyl pressing, between it and the new Terminator vinyl. The colors and designs are magnificent.

Spacelab9 have posted that they'll have new VGM announcements "very soon". Any guesses as to what it might be?

If they continue their partnership with Bethesda it'd be cool to see some Elder Scrolls or New Vegas. Seeing as there's been rumors about a DOOM release that could also be it (probably for the new game, though).

I'll gladly take the Mick Gordon DOOM soundtrack

Just ordered the SoR2 from Data Discs! Any other good sites for Vg vinyl other than 8bit?

I've got a list over all active labels that release VGM on vinyl (or at least does so occasionally): https://blipblop.net/current-vgm-labels/

Other than Data Discs and iam8bit I think that Invada is the best stocked right now (http://www.invada.co.uk/collections/all-products?page=1), while Ship To Shore have copies of both MOTHER titles left (http://shiptoshore.storenvy.com/). Finally, Laced have preorders for Hotline Miami and No Man's Sky: https://www.lacedrecords.co/collections/all. I guess it's worth keeping an eye on Ghost Ramp as well, but afaik they don't have any titles in stock or up for preorder at the moment.

Outside of my list Amazon actually has a list over video game and anime titles on vinyl: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n:466578,p_n_binding_browse-bin:387647011

Some of the Amazon titles are sold out ones at high reseller prices, though, but there's some good titles there as well.

Wow thanks for the links and advice! I will definitely check all of these out!

Regarding Street Fighter 2:

Something... sounds a bit off?

I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe I just need to listen to it more. The whole package is beautiful, of course, but I'm not getting blown away by the sound quality and the pitch of some of the melodies seem ever-so-slightly-off.

Maybe?

Anyone else experience something similar?

Can't comment on this particular release since I don't own it, but have you checked it's not your turntable setup? I've noticed with my cheap Chinese player that records don't always play on the exact right speed and therefore sound a bit out of tune.

I have a meticulously calibrated SL-1200MK2, I really don't think that's it :(

Got my shipping confirmation for Streets of Rage 2 last week! I'm so hyped - Data Discs has done a fantastic job with Streets of Rage, Super Hang-On, and Shinobi III, which I also own.

So apparently there's a Street Fighter II vinyl now?! I have to see about grabbing a copy of that...

EDIT: Of course I'm late to the party on this and it's already long gone. :P Oh well, hopefully it did well enough that they'll reprint it sometime soon.

Hm. In terms of pitch and timing, it follows the arcade board's output exactly. The emulated soundtrack (which you will mostly find on YouTube etc.) plays at an ever so slightly different speed, possibly pitch as well. The vinyl itself (based on the test pressing I used for comparison) also follows the correct arcade timing and pitch, and sounds as close to the uncompressed masters as you can get on vinyl (difference are some typical vinyl fuzz and warmth etc). All steps in the restoration process were approved by Yoko Shimomura and Capcom.

You should have received a digital copy of the soundtrack as well. Have you listened to it? Did it sound different/better to your ears?

Haha, so it might actually be that hawk2025(and probably most of us) have listened to wrong versions all these years :D

The emulated version, especially CPS-2, has a lot of other weird quirks. The QSound chip had to be kinda brute force reverse engineered for emulation, since QSound and its pseudo surround effect are patented and protected. And while the emulated result really didn't sound bad at all, it's not until you hear the music directly off the board when you realize that the emulation is far from 100% accurate. There are selected (emulated) tracks that even drop or "bury" certain notes played in quick succession, usually when played in conjunction with an echo/delay effect.

There HAVE been previous soundtrack releases directly sourced from the PCB, but they really did not sound great at all, were recorded straight from the board's analog out and/or butchered in mastering and sometimes even slathered with reverb after the fact.

Should be getting a long awaited album announcement today along with pre-orders going up. As a hint, I'll just say this is an easy "DEFINITIVE" "BLIND" buy.

I was half-expecting the announcement to come over the weekend, but awesome! I'm looking forward to see how it looks (well, and sounds) :)

Crap, it sounds like you are right -- all those years of no option for the SF2 soundtrack other than Youtube videos has essentially tainted my view of it.

Crazy stuff! Thanks for the fantastic job and for addressing it here, I was genuinely puzzled :)

No problem! Glad I could help. If you're interested, there was a lot more behind-the-scenes (technical) talk about the restoration on our first podcast episode: http://www.bravewave.net/wavelength/2016/wavelength-01-the-brave-wave-story (most of the restoration talk starts after the 34 minute mark).

Will do -- clearly there was a LOT of work put into this, it will be fun to listen to it :)

By the way, someone teased a new reveal a few posts back, any word on that? I couldn't make anything of the hints.

Hah, that reminds me of the news I only heard about recently regarding OutRun, and how the original game shipped with corrupt samples. Can only hope both the original and re-released vinyls (the latter of which I hope to get) has the audio fixed rather than like how the original arcade sounded.

Is it possible to buy these separately at all? Edit: Never mind, I'm an idiot.
