Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

Woke up late saw someone complaining about Drake tickets on Twitter and immediately went "oh shit Ori" somehow snagged a glow in the dark like two minutes ago.

Yo guilty gear vinyl in this Let's Rock! edition

Hmm, I totally forgot about the Ori and the Blind Forest release this morning.

Tried to purchase the glow in the dark version and it said sold out... but just tried again and success! Kind of seems like they are releasing more for purchase as they day progresses.

I bought both the glow in the dark and the regular version. Going to find out if there is indeed a sound quality difference.

Received SoRII vinyl. Actually preferred older style packing. My obi has tears on it weirdly on the inside, so a little disappointed. The blood splatter vinyl looks beautiful though.

Gg vinyl is tempting but don't want the whole game and extras...

My guess is part of that is going towards getting the records to the UK distributor, then postage from there on top.

Not ideal but oh well.

I usually order in batches from them as it seems to be a flat rate. No matter how many records I order shipping never gets to be more than $16 (at least to where I live).

Last I ordered 4 albums (2 of which are 2LP) with $16 shipping which seems pretty reasonable imo.

But yeah, if you're just after 1 record then $16 shipping is a bit steep.

I wish Japanese companies would license out their games more for vinyl work.

There are so many records, even for recent games, that I would buy. But no, protect protect protect.

Most of them don't even let you buy the stuff digitally and region lock the digital stuff to say iTunes Japan only. Very few companies actually understand this but now I'm going off topic. Falcom is one of the few that gets it. All music available day and date on iTunes and Amazon worldwide digitally.

Man why is iam8Bit shipping prices for the UK so high, its like £10

It's not great in the US either, but it is better than the UK, for sure. They added that media mail option after much outcry so that has alleviated things.

I tried to buy two t-shirts yesterday and saw that the shipping price went from $5.58 to $12.28. Considering they have previously shipped a t-shirt to me in one of those plastic pouchey-envelope mailers, that's robbery. There's no way two shirts makes the shipping rate more than double.

I'm only starting to listen to it now, but I'm surprised it hasn't come up before:

The Uncharted boxset only has the first Nate's Theme for reasons I can't possibly understand!

...why? Did they really think the variations weren't worth adding?

While I'm at it: Do we know if any of iam8bit's current releases are close to selling out? I'm picking them up as I go along but I'm missing some of the back catalogue like Bit Trip and wouldn't want to miss it.

i listed these last week:

Quantum Break has 1800+ copies left
Battletoads has 380+
Perfect Dark 190+
Banjo Kazooie 180+
Journey 150+
Uncharted box 20+

Cool, I have the ones close to being gone then.

My only "worries" are Dustforce + Bit Trip + Super Hexagon, but they've been around forever at this point. Worst case scenario Ebay/Discogs probably wouldn't be too expensive if they run out.

It's hard to say for sure. Some stock numbers were posted here the other day, but I know iam8bit gradually restocks, so I'm not sure those numbers are reliable in terms of whether or not titles are close to selling out. I think they just show how many ready-to-ship titles they have in stock (preorders excluded of course). It should be noted that the US and UK site numbers vary as well, so if something's gone in one store it might be available in the other.

I can't guarantee anything, but I believe iam8bit will post on social media if they're close to selling out. IIRC they did so with Battletoads so while they appear to have quite a few in stock these are likely the last copies they'll make available. I believe the same goes for Super Hexagon, although I don't know how many copies are left of those.

Additionally, I've been told by someone (unaffiliated with iam8bit, so take it for what it is) that they operate with two editions - open and limited. Limited editions will have pressing numbers shown on the page and will not be re-pressed when they sell out. Open editions will not have pressing numbers shown and will possibly be repressed if there's enough demand.

TL;DR: I don't think anything's close to completely selling out right now (but no promises)

Random question: Anyone know what the feasibility could be of a label releasing, say, a "best of" Bitmap Brothers compilation? Say, Xenon 2, Speedball 2, Gods and, um, Chaos Engine? Definitely not Magic Pockets, for obvious reasons.

It'd probably require that a label with people who are big fans of the games are willing to pick it up and - more importantly- if licensing is possible. Maybe there will be an increase in interest next month when Read-Only Memory are putting out their Bitmap Brothers book: https://readonlymemory.vg/shop/book/the-bitmap-brothers-universe/

They did a 12" EP with some tracks from Sensible Software games so maybe they'd be willing to do something similar for Bitmap Brothers? Just a guess, though.

Nice, I was just able to buy ORI Glow edition along with the regular edition just a few minutes ago. I've been trying for days with no luck. Hopefully they don't cancel my order.

Yeah, I figured licensing would be the biggest thing, especially considering the samples used in Megablast, plus getting Bomb the Bass/Tim Simenon to sign off on the whole process. Audio quality is another thing, given MODs from memory only have 8kHz (and 8-bit?) samples.

Hopeful to think about though, a tie-in with that book would be a great idea.

Finally got around to looking through and listening to the Street Fighter 2 set. A fucking work of art through and through. Sounds great, and looks amazing. Just perfection.

iam8bit just sent out an e-mail with estimated shipping dates for all their preorder titles (and said that they will send out preorder updates twice a month from now on). At the moment the estimated shipping dates look like this:

  • Monument Valley - Late May, 2016
  • Guild Wars 2: Heart Of Thorns - Early June, 2016
  • The Banner Saga - Late June, 2016
  • Into The Stars - Late June, 2016
  • XCOM - Late June, 2016
  • FTL: Advanced Edition - Late June, 2016
  • No Man's Sky - July, 2016
  • The Banner Saga 2 - August, 2016
  • Ratchet & Clank - August, 2016
  • Quantum Break - August 2016
  • Ori And The Blind Forest - August 2016

Also listened to the Streets of Rage 2 release. It's fantastic as well. I'm loving the growing DD family:
Man, Data put out some fucking incredible looking records. It wasn't them doing Out Run, was it?

After hearing a lot of the music on one of the Red Bull Music Academy episodes (I think it was episode 4 of the video game music series) I'd love to see a Hiro collection, with these:
Space Harrier - Squilla
Space Harrier - Ida
Hang-On - Main Theme
Fantasy Zone - Opa-Opa!

Out Run would be ultimate, though. Throw some stickers in there for good measure, too.

^Hiro is a legend. There's a recent 30th anniversary compilation CD with music from several of his Sega games. That would be a good candidate for what you're talking about imo.
