Grasshopper Manufacture remaking The Silver Case for PC in Unity 5

As cool as those avatars are, I can't get rid of Pat here. He relates to me on a deep level.

...I wonder how much the game's gonna change. Super-hi-res art would be nice.

Suda mentioned to one of his fans in Japanese on Twitter to wait until the start of May since he is getting so many Tweets off them about it since the fans in Japan are going crazy about it due to its cult status over there. So if it's the start of May, at least it's not a long wait for the big reveal or anything.

Yeah, I love how much Japan has been going nuts over this. Wish it was the same here, but it's gotten enough reaction to make me happy.

Right now, many Gaffers excited for TSC probably know about it because of that great thread you made a while ago, the game is pretty obscure and the Suda connection might be lost on many outside of GAF. There will definitely be more people interested in the game once it is officially announced, when other sites write about it and it becomes really clear that this is "Suda's early masterpiece, never before seen outside Japan".

It might also be a bit limiting that the game is only announced for PC right now, a lot of Suda fans are probably console/handheld players.

I wonder if a Vita version is feasible. I got TSC running on my PSP a while ago through some emu-fu:

Also, an awesome art nicht-alles-gold did for me:

Few other wallpapers (from Ward 25):

It's fine, I hope we get a cool trailer and a release window but that would be asking for too much.

I wonder how long they've been at it for, especially since Suda teased it in The Art of GHM... (Never in a million years did I really expect that to bear fruit.)

This is an illustration from Parade, the third episode. During the original draft, Miyamoto's illustration cut schedule was packed, so I only asked him for all the cuts for the third episode.

When we ported Silver Case for the DS, Miyamoto took a break from the illustration that he was doing on Ward 25 at the time and started on all the cuts for this parade. In the end, we finished the port to the DS but weren't able to distribute it, so this illustration hasn't been distbruted either. Now I want to remake The Silver Case, not just port it.

Silver Case is something I'd like to release outside of Japan someday. I have been getting some offers from a Spanish company to localize it along with some other titles. This was my first original title and the debut for Grasshopper, so it's really important to us.
I wanted to make a game that can't be deciphered in just a single glance. It was difficult to get the staff to understand that. I guess I really did look like a doubtful character, a "stray dog". But if I have to say, I think I really wanted to go down the path of making a game in a way that no one had ever achieved before.

The Silver Case is like the history of that battle.

But it's always been clear TSC is near and dear to him. I'm glad we're finally getting the whole story of KTP.

haha, nice. I did the same thing a few years ago after buying a PS1 copy, but I never got around to play it. That famous "a game so complicated, even Japanese people found it too hard" line always kept me from even trying the game ;)

A Vita version would be fantastic, but I'd even be happy with an ios/android port that gets released after the PC version. Since you've played through the game, do you think touch controls would work for vita/mobile?

That's ridiculous talk. There's one puzzle that was completely in Japanese and I figured it out entirely on my own just by process and elimination, and I can barely read it. I highly doubt most players had a hard time with it, apart from that stupid hotel segment near the end of Chapter 4. That was more annoying than difficult.
It requires searching key rooms over and over again.. It was like FSR from hell.

And the game is basically a slow paced point'n'click, so I don't see any reason why not. There's nothing that requires fast timing, it's all investigative.

It's arguably perfect for mobile.

I have a gameplay video here from the second chapter(so no spoilers).

The red icons indicate where you can move to, solid yellow suns indicate places you can interact with.

Interesting, thanks! I always associated the game with being incredibly difficult, must have been people exaggerating the difficulty because of the language barrier.

Playism have published games on PS4/Vita and they list both App Stores on their website as platforms they support, so there might be a chance this gets ported.

Ever since I read the primer on it and read up on the cancellation of the fully finished DS port, I thought they would never release it at this rate. This seems like a dream come true. ;~; Also thanks for the wallpapers cj_iwakura! They look amazing(especially the turtle one).

kiririn51 pointed this out.

The site's up to 15 polygons, nothing major, but now if you use the retweet widget, this is the message:

Interesting.

Hm... I wonder if I should wait in the hopes of a FSR remake in the same vein, or if I should get the DS port before they run out of carts...

I think at best they'd update the DS port to use the PS2 graphics. Anything else would be pointless, IMO. Heck, I don't feel like TSC needs much of an update either.

Your review of the artbook actually got me to buy it a week or two later. Seeing Suda's comments about TSC made me mildly hopeful, but actually getting remake news was bliss.

Fucking sweet. I'd rather a remake of Michigan tho.

Michigan was something else. Especially with the encounter with the infected guy.

It's so exciting to slowly see the new English logo coming together. But is the hashtag implying we're waiting until the 6th for the full reveal? I thought Suda tweeted about waiting for 5/1.

Anyway, I really hope that, should this be successful, we get HD ports of PS2 FSR and killer7. It's so great to see the return of classic Grasshopper.

Even with Capcom's affinity for remasters, I'm not sure if a killer7 port would be something they see any value in working on; regardless of how well this does. There's still a lot left in their backlog with much more of a reliable audience.

I remember Capcom USA members saying on a K7 stream last year that they'd love to, but they need some financial incentive (enough fan demand, publisher help, etc) before thinking seriously about it.
It's understandable yeah, even if I'd love it. At least it still looks great thanks to its timeless artstyle...

Newest update:

There is no single "official" way to investigate.

19 polygons. I love how professional the dialogue sounds. I was concerned about whether or not their translation team is up to the task, but it sounds like they are more than capable.

So is this a fair estimation of what we can expect from the logo?

hDKHNS1.png

looks like we're slowly getting there, you can clearly make out the R, E and A now that more shards have appeared.

For comparison's sake, the Japanese logo from the PS1 version spells out シルバー事件 (the silver incident/case) but written from top to bottom

OOhhh, so those shattered glass looking letters were the title in kanji...shit, we're geting the same font but in English, aren't we?

Also, it's 5/1 so they gotta' reveal the project by now.

Why is it sometimes simply called "The Silver"?

Why is it sometimes simply called "The Silver"?

not sure if the silver "case" was the official title when the game came out or if that's just what fans called it and it stuck; it's also called the silver "incident" on the box (the word 事件 can mean both, depending on context)

that's what the full logo looks like:

Now a Kids/Teens/Adults/Elders react to Killer 7 would work. Just show them the trailer (edit: or even just some cutscenes ahah).

Can already see the reactions in my mind:
"Oh my god, a talking head in a washing machine. Whaaaat"
"Why is that guy telling me to fuck off?"
"Who's Harman?"
"What do I do here, argh the controls are so bad"
"The controls suck."
"This game is so weeeeiiiiird".

lol.

we're getting closer, something interesting-looking has appeared in the upper left corner.

Maybe that symbol will turn into a "THE" like in the logo made by Kyonashi? Or maybe we're getting a collage of images like on the original boxart?

Oooh, this is exciting. I've never actually played a Suda game (though friends are big fans), but this and Flower, Sun, and Rain always intrigued me. Really good to see that it'll finally be coming out here in some form.

Yeah, it really does look like it's spelling it out...

Part of me's glad they decided to drag it out and not just drop the curtain.

Looks like they're speeding up the rate of the messages? I just woke up and they changed it twice now. (There's not the latest one on @believeinthe_en yet)

Boy, am I glad Playism didn't do the reveal today. You all would've gotten seriously overshadowed by P5.

Hope the way's clear tomorrow. Any idea of what time the shroud drops at?
