I don't think it's a better game overall than TF2, it's not as skill based but it will be competitive due to Blizzcon and the fact that it'll receive a lot more support than TF2 receives at this point.... but it is quite fun still.
The only issue I have is that I think the general movement of characters feel quite off which makes the aiming feel off. I'm not quite sure what it is or how to put it but I don't experience this in other games. I mean try using the sniper on someone and see how quick they move around...even the big enemies.
I think the delta in speed of classes should be a bit bigger.
I'm not sure what makes TF2 more skill based
Yup. Can't wait for an appropriate ranking system and competitive queue. People are trying to play this like it's a Looney Tunes deathmatch. I had to walk away from the game tonight because of it.
The game is stellar though. Can't wait to play with you all eventually. Should help.
Competitive opens up at level 25. Don't worry.
I'm still trying out different characters (really liking Bastion, Widowmaker, Mercy, and Soldier), but does anyone else feel like Soldier's ult is a bit weak if you're actually a good player who can aim?
Feels like it's great for newcomers to the genre or people not used to playing FPS games, but it doesn't increase damage, right?
Soldier's ult is one of the strongest dps ults in the game. Doesn't matter how good your aim is, you can't just hold down the fire button and hit every single bullet normally. Even a highly accurate robot would be limited to 3 round bursts in a normal situation, but when you can hold left click you can mow down an entire team.
Game is pretty good, but man it falls into the same pitfall as so many other team FPSers:
Support is extremely advantageous to the point of being necessary.
There's only four support heroes.
One of them stinks in comparison to the others (Symmetra.)
And only one of them has the healing capability to keep a tank up under sustained fire (Mercy.)
So you chances of winning is heavily altered on this single Mercy champion being on your team. And she's boring as hell. She's the medic from Team Fortress 2. Yaaay.
I mean, even if every support champion was extremely capable you only get four to choose from. Maybe that's the testament to how boring support roles can be. Unless you're the engineer from Team Fortress 2.
How do people post stuff like this after an hour or two and not realize they know nothing? Lucio and Zenyatta are very powerful supports, Lucio fills the same role as Mercy EASILY and all 3 have ults that are valuable for pushing or defending a push in the exact same way. Symmetra I think should be ranked as Defense rather than support, but it's funny you say she sucks - she recently got a big nerf because she's had the highest winrate of all heroes ever since beta started, and she is STILL absurdly good. Use turrets to either make death rooms in flank paths or place them around in places that will not get incidentally killed but will snare/damage people pushing through, they're also great for letting you know if someone is trying to flank you or go through back channels (you get a ! over them when someone is being damaged by one), and her left and right click attacks both do absurd damage.
That's D.VA not Mei.
Mei is the Chinese Ice Girl.
I had no luck with D.VA at all.
I shout 20 shots into a Tracer and she literally didn't lose any health.
Felt pretty stupid at that point, but eh, 20 tickrate and lag will do that I guess.
D.va has rapidfire shotgun style attacks. Tracer is tiny. Unless you were in her face like melee range your odds of doing anything to Tracer with D.va is almost nonexistent. I saw some other gaffer post a twitch stream during the last beta weekend and play dva while trying to peek at people around a door, so I realize now people actually try to do things like this. Don't. Dva needs to be IN THEIR FACE to accomplish anything other than being a body to shoot at. Shift and E will get you in there. If you want to play farther back, don't be D.va.
I've had a couple of turn-the-game-around ults as Zarya now. Proper teamplay can completely decimate a whole team in seconds!
Queen Zarya ult = best ult in the game.
Sort of. Each map usually has three flanks to each choke so if a defending team pushes out to far it's really easy to get to the backline with the mobile disruptors like Tracer or Reaper. The hard counter to lock down a flank is a Symettra death rooms. They're impossible for a solo disruptor to break through. Then you have maps like Anubis and Hollywood where the flanks enter from near one choke to get to the backline behind the choke.
The map design is crazy. They let the heroes be the stars of the game.
Yeah, Symmetra is so good at covering flanks, and all of the chokes have at least 1 other path around, perhaps hero limited though. Anubis used to be FAR worse before they fixed it.
No one has an answer to D.Va and Junkrat on consoles. I've seen literally no one moving like I do with DVa and thinking she won't die quickly when shooting, use the boost to escape and the shield to charge the boost, rinse repeat.
I've seen no one jumping with the c4 with junkrat and it's gotten me out of shootouts faster than any other character. DVa seems to be the main.
Tracer is all right but I need more feedback from her gun, it feels like I'm doing nothing when it clearly has some strength to it
Zarya would be so much better if the buffs lasted a bit longer. Also can't seem to get used to the range on her gun. Falls off way shorter than expected
They actually nerfed Zarya's shields because 2 zaryas shielding each other was ridiculously good. It just takes practice, Zarya was one of the ones I wanted to play heavily before I touched the game, then I thought she sucked when I first used her, then I went back and forced myself to play her more (along with every other hero) and she's by far my favorite tank. I still pick Reinhardt in plenty of situations, or winston or whoever for that matter, but Zarya is a god damn beast for damage and the shield is powerful. Just remember the ally shield blocks more damage than the personal one, and has a shorter cooldown.
