Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

Thanks for your reply! No I didn't try the beta, that's why I'm asking. Would really like to try some sort of demo. Your comment already tempts my impulse buy habit, though. Snappy and responsive is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Don't worry. The gunplay in UC4 is fantastic. My favorite game before UC4 purely based off of gun feel was Max Payne 3. UC4 is better than that.

Hahaha.

Here's my ranking of the intros UC4 > TLOU > UC2.

TLOU intro is like MGSV intro. UC4 intro is nothing like that.

How you rank TLOU over UC2 has me so hyped now. My preference is the same, and I am more fond of the characters from UC.

The gunplay is refined to perfection, snappy, and nowhere near as floaty as the previous games.

Simply put, it's incredible.

Damn! May 10th yet?

I'm not here to shitpost, but I'm honestly interested: Is there anybody out there who, like me, really disliked the gunplay / feel of aiming and shooting in every single UC (including the PS4 demo for the UC collection) and yet agrees with the statements on the first page, that the gunplay in UC4 is fantastic?

I always liked to follow the characters through the games but really hated the shooting which is more important to me. For years I blamed it on the loose sticks of the DS3, until I played the UC Collection demo where it felt about as bad on the DS4 as it did before. Is it significantly different from previous entries, especially that loose feeling while aiming? It never felt as tight to me as it should have, don't know how to describe it better than that.

After I finished TLOU for the first time on the PS4 just this year and loved it I'm ready to be hyped by a ND game again. But I bought all three UC games (UC3 only on sale) and regretted it afterwards every time.

Please don't hang me.

I agree, the gun play in UC 1-3 and TLOU is really weak. I played the mp demo of UC4 and the gun play seems better but it's still not very good IMO. Plenty of people agree so don't feel bad. I still really enjoy the games because of the stories, production quality, and the overall package, etc. but I have a hard time replaying them because of the gameplay.

TLOU had an awful story, it was so obvious how it was going to play out from the time it was announced. There's a disease going around, dude loses child during outbreak because the dipshit uses her as a shield, years go by and dude helps girl because why not, girl is immune to disease aintthatatwistIdidntseecoming, dude sees girl as new daughter, kills doctors for fun. Fin. It's been a long time but that was the story basically, no good.
.
You're being overly critical man. Do you realize how many creative works exist in the entertainment business? There's almost no way to do something completely creative in the storytelling space, it's been done before in some way shape or form. But honestly, this is very intentional by ND, as the virus and outbreak and immunity all come second to their relationship. It really doesn't matter if you saw what the overall story was going to be, it's about the acting and making the pair believable. If you can't see the quality in that or understand the praise you are just Hating. It was head and shoulders above most video games, and good even compared to movie acting.

Original does not mean "best"

How is that not still unfortunate? She loves Uncharted, clearly. I would think she'd want her work on it to be successful.

I guess it's unfortunate in a way, but it's part of the process. For every idea you see in a game, there are 50 ideas on the cutting room floor. You can't start being precious about every single idea.

Listen, I don't want to get people hyped for no reason. But TLOUs intro was short and cinematic with an emotional gut punch. I loved it.

But UC4s intro is longer, is better designed and features more gameplay. Not to mention does a good job with the story intro and character stuff. It's more like UC2s in that sense.

I just find it to be executed extremely well.

Wat. LoU has the best gunplay in a TPS imo. Weighty, impactful, brutal, nice recoil, excellent sounds, gore, animations, weapon feel and feedback etc. Admittedly it's not until you upgrade aiming sway a bit till things get really satisfying and rewarding.

Have they explained the leveling system? Will it have traditional levels (like U2 and U3 had)?

Not talking about the loadout progression, just levels/ranks.

i wouldn't say that. Uncharted is an Arcadey action game, the gunplay fits the tone very well. Not sure what is "weak" about it especially since every game improves upon the formula.

I would say you are replacing something you don't like with bad.

That is all I needed to hear! Your impressions have been a pleasure to read.

I am just glad at approaching 38 years old, I am actually starting to get the giddy hype I used to get when I was younger for games. It is been far too long since we last took these characters for a ride... bittersweet it is their final one (from ND at least).

Another thing that I haven't seen many people mention:

The combat encounter areas are typically very layered and provide a good bit of verticality to go alongside Nates toolset. It's seriously good stuff.

As somebody who quite frankly didn't enjoy TLOU at all, i'm hoping the stealth gameplay isn't similar or forced frequently.

Either way, isn't the embargo over tomorrow? Can't wait for that. Chaos is coming.

To preface, I have not found a single antagonist in the UC series to be any kind of interesting. Lazarovic, british dude from UC1, Navarro, Marlowe, Marlowe's assistant dude are all %100 forgetable.

TLOU was far better in that regard with David and the rebel leader lady.

From the very little I've seen so far of UC4's antagonists so far, they're already far better than any of Uncharted's past villains.

Enemies with character, who'd of thought?

It's never forced to my knowledge.

Preach it.

Uc plays very different and that already was apparent in the beta.

-Story sounds shit, as expected from the writer of TLOU
-Gameplay sounds amazing, as expected from the designer of TLOU
-MP looks like throwing as much shit at the wall as possible and seeing what sticks, as expected from the ND MP team

Either way, not long until I'll be playing this game. For better or worse, it will be a pretty play through so looking forward to a good looking game.

Thought this thread was for people who are able to actually play the game, as clearly mentioned in OP.

Ok this is just bullshit, don't give me false hope. There is no way Uncharted 4 has better feeling gunplay than Max Payne 3, that is the GOAT. Your comment took me from being extremely hyped to looking at you with a side-eye. Uncharted 4 doesn't even have Euphoria.

Early on at least, the antagonists are definitely more nuanced than in the past. For sure.

That's fair, I'm not saying it's objectively bad...just that it's pretty weak to me. I simply don't really enjoy the firefights in UC or TLoU because of the shooting mechanics. Still really enjoy the games, though. And I'd love them to change my opinion on UC4....

The only time I've seen they force it on you is when they teach it to you. That's it.

Just realized that I know absolutely nothing about this game...haven't checked out any previews, info, anything. (I did play the mp beta but that doesn't really spoil anything). Actually has me excited to jump in blind next week, which is something I almost never do for big games.
