Congrats to everyone at ND, can't wait to play it! I skimmed a few reviews, and found Polygon's to be surprisingly touching. Not helping the hype, here!

I didn't think the original .gif could get any better, and yet somehow it did.

Any video reviews yet? Specifically KindaFunny, EZA and ACG.

Fem Frequency has their review up, but I did stop watching as there was some new footage. I'm looking forward to ACG's review, too - but again, don't want to spoil myself too much more than I already have!

94 metacritic fucking hell. In this day and age that is crazy good!
The only upcoming games I can see matching Uncharted 4 is Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6 and maybe Mass Effect Andromeda.

Naughty Gods and Rockstar are just in a league of their own.

On a more serious note, I think it's pretty impressive how a game on its fourth sequel can go back up to a higher score again. Shows Uncharted hasn't lost its magic, and ND certainly hasn't.

Ars Technica's Kyle Orland says:

While Uncharted 4 is a beautiful and thrilling way to pass the time, it feels like an insubstantial experience in the end. What will probably be Nathan Drake's final tale feels mostly slick and forgettable, lacking the strong character drama or plotting that can make other cinematic games stick with you long after they're completed. I doubt I'll be spending much time working over the events of Uncharted 4 in my head the way I have for games like Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, or even Naughty Dog's own The Last of Us. That doesn't matter when you're in the middle of a thrilling firefight, but it becomes apparent quickly once those credits begin to roll.

No score yet.
Don't read too much into it.

I'm getting the sense that there's a little padding (I wonder if ND are preparing for bigger, more structurally ambitious games. They seem to be actively aiming for the 16-20 hour range now), but nothing too egregious. Hopefully, anyway.

David Jenkins had his beefs, but he goes HAM near the end:

And that’s also perfectly fine. Apart from a couple of ponderous cut scenes, and a few too many platforming sections, this is an almost perfect action game. It’s easily the best Uncharted, it’s the best marriage of cinematic and video game action since Resident Evil 4, and it has graphics so good that the most common reason for dying is because you were just standing there gawping at the scenery.

I did a short, spoiler-free type thing: https://youtu.be/mDR6lfKYQfI

Also talked about it on our podcast: https://youtu.be/X6ka1YVt6_Q?t=1463

I believe Kinda Funny have a review of sorts live here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vy9wlNx-DM

Thanks guys!

Trust me this one will be, as normal, spoiler free. Its a huge deal for a title like this.
Though I am sure someone will bitch when I tell them its called Uncharted 4 lol

I don't recall saying that it wasn't.

"Uncharted 3 won plenty of awards in 2011"

Where in there did I negate Skyrim? Matter of fact - don't answer that. Thread has nothing to do with it nor Deus Ex.

Fair enough; this is a topic suited to another thread. I think I saw you coming in the wrong direction as well; I never said this couldn't win a couple of GOTY, but sweeping it? Unlikely.

The Kinda Funny discussion is really good if you're familiar with those guys. You know where they stand on that series and their likes and dislikes.

It's a little weird that they had Colin on when he hadn't finished it since from everything I've read today, the ending is lengthy and significant.

I'm talking about the pre-emptive anticipation of bad review reactions. We've seen that shit for weeks on end where people are 'hurr durr grabbing popcorn' and reading the thread solely for 'the meltdowns'. It's annoying as fuck and at this point it's getting more annoying than the outraged posts themselves.

So what? I'm sure the game is good, it looks good, the games before it by the same studio were good, so I'm already sold on it and hope to enjoy it as much as I have other games in the series. Some fanboys losing their shit over something as small as videogame reviews, hell sometimes a review from a website they never heard or cared about before, is entertaining to say the least. Why worry about it when you can just ignore that part of the discussion?

Preemptively anticipating bad review reactions is no different than preemptively anticipating high review scores. At the end of the day it's just videogames and we're all having fun wasting time till we die.

If we go with unnannounced games, you can go with more than that.
Like Mario Galaxy 3 or whichever game Valve might do one day.
Not really seeing the point, you never know what it'll be.

How do you weigh one opinion as better than another? If you make it on the site, you should be weighed the same as everyone else, methinks.

I will weigh towards sites that have been around for a long time, because that's how gamers see the scores anyway. If some random site or YouTube channel give UC4 a 8, people will live with it, but if GS or IGN give it a 8, people will go crazy.

Alright, I'm out. Satisfied with what I got. Got plenty of entertainment from the faux-outrage posts and general surprise at Gamespot, Polygon and IGN's reviews. Time to sleep.

The one thing that I think is kind of cool is how the franchise, characters, developers, storytelling, and graphics have all paralleled their maturity with my life. I was 21 when Uncharted 1 released, in a hospital bed, and didn't know if I'd live to make out. Since than I've fallen in and out of love, lost people dear to me, and acheieved things I never thought I would. Every single Uncharted and Naughty Dog release was an event- and each game set the bar higher for the entire industry.

I'm glad ND took the deliberate, slow paced, and adult like tone with this game. The games grew with us, and as a franchise, Uncharted is a stunning of example of the evolution of game development and narrative devices. I'm smiling ear to ear thinking about the past 9 years. This is going to be the last hurrah- and it feels welcoming and upsetting. Whatever the case, I couldn't be more excited. The 30 year old thuway's versus the 21 year old's expectations from this medium are vastly different. I'm sure there are a ton of people who feel the exact same way.

Good. Nothing left to discuss.

OT: Looks like it will hold on to that 94 for a good while.
