Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

Fucking phenomenal scores, and judging by few bits I've read it looks like this great ending of the Drakes journey, and that "low reviews" are complaining that ND did not change the "winning formula" enough for their taste. This is Uncharted game through and trhough, and not industry-changing masterpiece like U2 was. Fine by me.

Can't freaking wait to play it.

I think this game has given us a good bar to predict future release metacritic scores. I think we should also count how many reviews and reviewers have contributed to the score as well.

I know not many people have played it yet, but does anyone know if I go into this game cold, having not played an Uncharted game before, I'll be missing out on anything?

Uncharted relies a lot on its characters and their relationships build throughout all the games so you would be missing a lot I would say.

There is an Uncharted Collection on PS4. Play it. They're good games. Also not that expensive.

I don't really have the time available to playthrough all those, but if it will soar the experience of 4 without playing them, then maybe I'll have too.......

Edit : Ok, looks like I'll have to play all the previous games then!

I'd say you should at least play 2

1&3 you can watch on YT but story wise the series is pretty entertaining and being the last game a little attachment to the cast will surely improve the experience

How do you know all this? You have no idea about their weighting system so we can't tell.

Hmm yeah the weighting system may indeed change things up, but the biggest sites already gave their reviews apart from IGN (likely 9 or below) and Giant Bomb, so it should only go for more stability.

By the time of that post the score just changed to 94 from 93.

And of course I don't "know" It's just an educated guess. I find 95 very unlikely to be settled on.

Oh. Color me surprised.
Shouldn't really. Brad was always very high on the series even back to the first one. Jeff was always just outspoken how he never liked the twist and how the game fell off.

Could be totally wrong and It's dumb to speculate on someone's personal review but I'd be reasonably surprised if Dan didn't give this a 5 based on how he reviews and what this game purportedly brings to the table. He's a fan of the series and this game adds more combat freedom and is an absolute stunner technically. Unless he hated some narrative choices, this getting the same score as Ratchet would be weird.

I'm personally more interested what Giant Beast thinks of it since it's a lot more varied audience on the east coast.

I dunno, the games play like a good blockbuster and the archetypes and relationships are not complex. I say go for it if you don't wanna play through the whole series just yet.

Just watch the playthroughs on youtube if you don't have the time.

It wont. You'll enjoy UC4 with or without the other three. They're really good though, and you should give all of them a try, or at the very least 2.

Do you believe there is a good chance for that?

I know U4 is supposedly better but they were really harsh with QB.

Yeah, why not. I think there is a good chance. I don't think Dan will give this game 4 stars if it's basically a 9/10 game.

Uncharted 3 and TLoU have 5/5 reviews on GB.

Am I late for the celebration around abstract numbers without talking about how good are the tests and what is in there to discuss ?

I have not played the game yet but if the story is like TR 2013 well...

It's a bit better but still completely forgettable.
There's just this lack of charisma and emotional resonance that ND for example does so well that makes it hard to care about what's going on. Still a great game though.

Also, people really obsess over metacritic huh?

Just watched Kinda Funny review and they were adamant that a lot will be lost on the player if Uncharted 4 is his/her first Uncharted. For context, I remember Greg saying a long time ago on Podcast Beyond in regards to Uncharted 3 that you don't at all need to play the other games. So, in his eyes at least, yes, you will be missing out on a lot as this game plays it very differently.

With this, I believe Naughty Dog has the highest average rating across their entire portfolio of games, compared to any other developer. Their overall average is 88. Were it not for Jak X: Combat Racing (76), it would have been above 90. Basically, these guys are insanely consistent.

Naughty Dog Metacritic Profile

Their average is is prob above 90 since Metacritic is counting Golden Abyss, and that is no a ND game

Kinda Funny Tim says its a Masterpiece and if he had to rate it, it would be 10/10, best Uncharted. Collin says its a fantastic game and it gets better and better (he has still not finished). Greg Miller says its a more somber and grown up uncharted.
