Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

People act like Drake asked to be shot at lol.

I will never ever understand people that use this as a legitimate complaint about the series. Its not like Drake is killing innocent people anyway. These guys are out to kill him too.

My favorite part of Uncharted 2 was the scene in the supermarket. Those fuckin' shoppers didn't see what was coming, especially that poor sod over by the dairy.

What I felt was incredibly tedious gunplay in RotTR and nothing from the narrative was pressing me to push forward.

I'm not sure what I was expecting out of QB and I may return to it but I bought it mostly as a fan of Remedy's Max Payne and Alan Wake. It's sorta a combination of those two series'. I'm even a fan of the time travel/bending trope but the narrative didn't really grab me with this one either.

Aw, fair enough. That's unfortunate. Sounds like the story in both those games were lacking/not compelling enough to keep gripping you onwards.

The reviews for UC4 so far seemed to imply that it has bested UC2's story but (not surprisingly), it did not manage to reach TLoU's emotional highs. I don't know how much you've enjoyed the narrative hooks in the past UC games so, I don't know if you'd be just as bored with this game as you were with QB and RoTR.

If you feel that genre fatigue kicking in, you could just go with Doom first and pick this up later like you seem to be planning to anyway, But yes, the hype is infectious, I know. :p

I don't really care for the whole meme complaint about Drake being a mass murderer. But I think even with that said, UC4 handled it pretty well.

However, there's only so much you can do when your the fourth game in series.
Yeah, Naughty Dog would have to completely overhaul everything, from gameplay to narrative to get around the whole "mass murder" thing. Its silly how some can't suspend their disbelief and review the game for what it is. Too many seem to review games for what they aren't.

Also, this discussion we just had on UC4 and the meme.

Can't wait until you guys see the name of one of the trophies.

Shades of Driveclub not being 'open world' and being docked for it, lol.

Please, please, PLEASE don't derail this thread with Drake's murdering ways.

Btw, those poor attempts at unleashing the meltdownz are kinda funny. :D

People's feelings are silly now?

Like I said, my wife hates these games because of that disconnect. I can only imagine the response if I told her her feelings were silly.

@nickcapozzoli is very distressed and worried that reviewers like Uncharted 4 enough to highly praise it with words in their reviews.

What a tough life he leads being the self appointed arbiter of how much praise is too much.

You're oversimplifying it.

If a large part of a game is its story, and elements of the game work against (or even just not in favour of) the story then I understand why that might be an issue for some.

Just as The Last of Us' gameplay worked to further the narrative; to present Joel as someone who is brutal, unrelenting and willing to do anything to survive, it makes sense that gameplay working against a game's narrative would be a complaint. I wouldn't know if that's the case for Uncharted 4, but I think saying "just suspend your disbelief" is overly dismissive.

starting to think the only wall of shame to come out of this thread will be all of the transparent posts attempting to entice meltdowns

Well, this IS the review thread and it was mentioned in a review...

I agree, though. This isn't the thread for it.

Let's just rejoice in this relatively peaceful review thread for a big ticket release.

GAF is growing up. :)

.

Also the Elley sections were brilliant--esp the dlc--because of the lack of dissonance. It is a really hard thing to pull off, hence the hen's teeth rarity.

lol they read GAF, didn't they?
Hahaha, you know it. It's a hidden trophy too.
Gaf got several shout outs from Neil and Arne. They read NeoGAF too much for their own good.
haha. I usually have trophy notifications disabled, but I'll probably enable them now before starting the game as I'm curious now.

Atomix 10/10
Uncharted 4 works excellently as the definitive action-adventure experience and as a deep narrative-driven game. The huge attention to small details combined with the perfect adjustments to a functional gameplay formula results in a product that shows us the thirty-year experience of Naughty Dog, one of the most valuable videogame developers out there today.

Already in the OP but was just added to MC.

It's just that there's no dead horse left to beat when it comes to that topic. And I feel like it never really contributes anything of worth.

He's really not. I'm not sure how you can address the complaint unless you take out shooting portions of UC4 or heavily rework past stories.

I'm trying to think and I'm not really coming up with any ideas.

Its a 3rd person shooter. Its silly to review it as anything else. People who see that a game is a shooter should expect there to be shooting, its the gameplay hook. Its like saying there's too much baseball in MLB 2016

I know this is off topic and I'm not saying that feeling this way is wrong or silly. But I don't understand the disconnect that people talk about.

The problem is that Drake is a good guy who kills mercenaries? Because the game story presents him as someone nice?
