Going by reviews, people seem to be indifferent or dislike Sam.

I kind of feel like I would be the same way. Never really cared that he was added in the game, and it kind of feels a little uninteresting to have a character like that you are supposedly to suddenly care for and adventure with. I imagine they will try to make me care for Sam, but we're obviously supposed to be a little suspicious of him too.

I dont care much for that kind of "will he? wont he" stuff as the series closer. I feel we had that with Chloe already anyway.

Mistake. You're foregoing the challenge of the game. When nothing is dangerous, game design is basically irrelevant.

Exactly. Though 3's level design regressed from 2, enemy behavior was more enjoyable, so the battles were still fun in a different way. Not AS fun but fun.

To me this just means you get to run around and get shot with near impunity. There are no tactics anymore.

I will be playing 4 on Normal based on some feedback I've read here though.

I got kind of the opposite vibe, that Sam feels like he was there all along and is a great character.

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the game and really enjoy the character and the banter between him and the other characters. ND could have easily just made him a flimsy excuse for Nate to get back into treasure hunting, but instead they made this fully fleshed out character with flaws and interesting facets of his personality.
 
I had to choose between Doom and UC4 and well one had early reviews and sounds amazing, the other hasn't even had review copies shipped out, sooo choice was easier than I expected.

Preloading and can't wait until tomorrow night =) the hard part will be staying away from spoilers since they are everywhere trying to bait people for clicks.
 
Man... still not feeling any hype. Not sure how to feel about that. I played and enjoyed all the previous entries from day 1, but not feeling it with this one.
 
All the guys recommending playing on crushing old Uncharted, and arguing that you can play freely, do crazy stuff etc, can you link a YouTube video of such demonstration?

I played through the remaster on crushing my first run through and definitely achieved this so called "uncharted gameplay." No I'm not being reckless and running all over the place, but I'm definitely taking advantage of every bit of cover given. The game never encourages staying in one spot.

Playing through on normal now just for a quick refresher and it kinda takes away from the game in my opinion, I never feel even a little threatened, just breeze by everything and never have to plan out how to move from each piece of cover.

He is fucking great IMO.

I've seen quite a few people on here say he was good, and a couple say he was good but not great.

His patter with Nate is flawless and they have a ton of great scenes. He also has some of the funniest lines in the thing.

Once you start playing that vibe might change.

From chapter 10 onwards it becomes an Uncharted game which contains all the others and improves upon them in every way, to thrilling and intense and emotional highs. It is fucking brilliant.
 
Sam might seem weird from the outside(meaning if you've never played the game and only seem clips/trailers) but the game makes his inclusion feel meaningful and it really didn't feel like he's a character that suddenly got implemented in the last minute.

They handled it quite gracefully IMO.

Sam also has some genuinely great banter. Pretty much everyone has great banter.

Uncharted 2-3? On Crushing? I don't think you can play freely. A couple of shots, and you're dead. You have to kind of know what's coming and play carefully. In Uncharted 2, there's actually at least one spot where you can actually get stuck with no ability to get enough ammo to proceed, if you didn't come in well-armed; it's that tower in the Monastery, where once you drop down to near the first floor, suddenly the whole thing collapses, and now you're stuck with a ton of people advancing on the bridge and RPG and snipers firing from far away.

(I never tried Uncharted 1 on Crushing.)
 
My copy was despatched from Amazon yesterday and is showing at the royal mail national distribution centre now. I'm hoping it is delivered tomorrow.

You can't play like that on higher difficulties, especially not on crushing, and I think this is the most fun way to experience the gameplay to its fullest.

"Taking advantage of every bit of cover" = playing defensively, camp as long as you can until you are forced to switch cover, it's not fun and not challenging in an interesting way, it's just tiring.

That's not appealing to me at all, at this point. It's just reckless. Hard is the best balance IMO. You can play creatively and try stuff -- more pressure to do stealth well, melee definitely comes up -- but no running around like a crazy Rambo type.

I don't think you can play to creativity on hard, but I might misremembering, crushing for sure not, and I did platinum U2.

I am thinking how hyped I was about the previous games weeks before they were released. Release for UC4 is two days away and... nothing. I guess it's the same with UC as with say Call of Duty, Battlefields etc. Just not feeling those either anymore. Perhaps my taste for games is different nowadays.
 
Not sure how Amazon are going to get these prime release day shipments to customers via USPS (which they seem to use all the time now for games) for Tuesday. They have still not shipped here in the US.

For lately they ship either Sunday or even Monday and still get it on release day. So far this year SFV was a day late(and they compensated me well for it), but R&C was right on time.

I'm playing UC2 right now for the first time. I'm playing through on Crushing difficulty. I just got to the beginning of chapter 12. Is the part you are referring to further ahead?

I always get the shipping notification the night before release. So in this case, even if it doesn't say shipped until tomorrow evening, it will get to you on time.
 
So the recommended difficulty for a first playthrough is hard? Can you still mark enemies above normal difficulty? Will stealth still be possible? I read that it wasn't really feasible without the markers.

Last time I asked in this thread I was told by several that Normal is the way to go for first playthrough.

I thought so myself, because im a hardcore uncharted fan, and i remember i started uncharted 3 on hard with no hitch.
but upon doing so in uncharted 4, i really felt like im having hard time and its hindering the experience because gameplay and gunfights play differently this time around.
My advice, start on Moderate difficulty, but thats just my two cents.

Also marking is possible on hard, and stealth is feasible without markers.

Question about difficulty. Let me know what you think.

Whenever I tried the harder difficulties in the previous games (only the remastered versions), I found myself relying way too much on cover. It got me through battles, sure, but the battles themselves were very static. Just popping out to shoot, and switching places only when I had to. It was more a necessity than anything, because enemies hit hard, so it discourages running around, and mixed with the recovery time it resulted in battle scenes that weren't too memorable. I didn't find it a fun challenge, just one that stripped many of the game's best sides away.

When I lowered the difficulty, suddenly I could actually make use of the playfield - because it really is that, in Uncharted. I'd run around, climb up, jump down, and overall create a very hectic battlefield that may have been less challenging, but much more enjoyable due to how varied it was.

What do you guys recommend for Uncharted 4? Do battles play out any differently, or should I still avoid the higher difficulties because they'll lead to the same immobile experience?

What next Tomb Raider? There's no new Tomb Raider this year.

You tell me if Uncharted 4 is a contender. How many new games have exceeded it on Metacritic this generation? None. Well then...

I mean even niche game like BB won way more GOTYs than RoTTR (31-4)

a late release like the PS4 version of Tomb Raider wouldn't stand a chance when it comes to GOTYs this year against UN4

that being said TR is really great and it was one of the best 3 game last year for me.

I'm assuming your talking about about the OS4 version of Rise of course.
