So I played UC1-2 but never got to UC3. Do I need to know what happened in UC3 to appreciate UC4?
I just played Uncharted 3 Remastered for the first time this weekend, specifically to be caught up for 4, and I really felt like I didn't need to. I mean, I'm glad I did just for completion's sake, but as far as the story, not really. So I played UC1-2 but never got to UC3. Do I need to know what happened in UC3 to appreciate UC4?

All you really need to know is that Elena and Drake get engaged by the end of the game, and that Sully "dies", but it turns out Drake was just high on magic or something, so he didn't really die.
There's really not much you need to know.
nope
UC3 had some great Nathan Drake backstory. I would play it if I was you.

There will probably be a few small references to 3 in 4 that I'll be able to pick up on now, but that's about it.
Just to give a counter opinion, Antitrop is crazy because he thinks Uncharted 1 is better than 3. U3 is my personal favorite and I would definitely recommend playing it once before U4 if you don't have to play U4 on day 1.
As for the people telling him what happens and tell him to play it, you are taking away some of the motivation lol. Maybe spoiler tag it?
I like Uncharted 1 mostly on the strength of how it portrays the beginning of Nathan and Elena's relationship. I thought it was all really well done, even when I played the Remaster last year.Just to give a counter opinion, Antitrop is crazy because he thinks Uncharted 1 is better than 3. On the other hand, Elena is barely even in 3, it's mostly The Chloe Show until she just disappears 2/3s of the way through (which was okay with me).
I really like Elena. Sue me.

Sully is the best thing about all three games, so everything else is just a tie-breaker.![]()
Haha fair enough. I really like Elena, but even more I love Sully and Nates relationship which is best in 3.

He really is. "The Goddamn Sully Collection" sounds better than Nathan Drake Collection to me lol
Who's talking about DS2?
If you say DS3, I can't agree.
Maybe so but U4 didn't introduce that much more. In some ways, it's a step backward (the set pieces).
Next Uncharted game will just be called The Adventures of Victor 'Goddamn' Sullivan.
it's a step backward (the set pieces).
I hate to say it but for me the OST is the least memorable aspect of ND games. I went through TLOU and only noticed the score like 1 or 2 times. Sort of a complement actually, their games are so absorbing with story &, gameplay that its hard to notice anything else.
Him living out the rest of his life in an old folk's home, hitting on all the nurses. Nothing less from Sully, IMO.
Eh, having literally just beaten 3, Elena was in it as much as Chloe. Probably more. Chloe was there for a bit at the beginning in London (she doesn't even go underground with the three guys), she's there in Syria, but then disappears. Elena shows up, is there through the streets of Yemen down into the underground well, then we see her again once Drake maikes t back from the cruise ship and through to the plane, and even pops up in the epilogue.
If you want to talk about a game where a character barely shows up, it would be Sully in Uncharted 2. It's amazing that that game still manages to be the best without him pretty much at all.
U4 even moreso "been there done that." It's a fourth game entry in a franchise.
DS3 is like the 5th game in that series though?
Even more if the King's Field games count for anything.
Also that:
- Nathan's mother committed suicide.
- Nathan Drake is not his real name.
- Nathan was brought up in a foster home which was created by Sir Francis Drake.
- Sully took Nathan in when he was a teenager.

Only if you feel bigger is better, I don't, it's one of the reasons I dislike UC3. Less can be more.
The TLOU score was incredible. I get feels just hearing the first few notes of the theme, every single time.
My memory of these games is such shit and I just played 3 on Friday. I figure a lot of is because I played them on Hard and would get stuck and frustrated on combat encounters all the time, causing me to lose focus on the stories. I still came away from 3 feeling like there wasn't enough Elena, but that's my bias towards favoring her, I guess. She was definitely in 3 less than 1 and 2, wasn't she?
I'm going to play 4 on Normal the first time, like I did with The Last of Us. Keeps the pace of the story flowing more smoothly.
I think TLoU plays better on Hard by quite a bit, but I think running through it the first time on Normal was best for my understanding of the plot.
amazon is telling me my copies of the game aren't even gonna ship until may 16. what the fuck?

Eh, Uncharted 2's train was longer, bigger, and crazier than the cruise ship, plane, and convoy in 3, but it is still way better. The convoy in 3 was pretty fun, but the cruise and plane both feel like things happening around you for you to look at rather than the train being interesting level design to go with the insanity.
Having finished U4 I actually think it will age worse than any Dark Souls game. Dark Souls gameplay is almost timeless. The only groundbreaking thing about U4 is the visuals and photorealistic visuals always age.
I believe someone said 4 or 5PM tomorrow.Probably been asked before, when are we expecting the OT to be up?
Yeah Amazon delayed my order until May 13 too. Thus I cancelled that crap immediately and bought the game on PS Store instead. Ain't nobody got time for that!amazon is telling me my copies of the game aren't even gonna ship until may 16. what the fuck?
stop_penis_can_only_get_so_erect.gifAbsolutely disagree. Uncharted 4 honestly features some of the best combat design in any game I've ever played. A few of the shoot outs take place in such amazingly dense, layered and dynamic arena's that they basically feel like giant combat playgrounds. You can pretty much immediately and fluidly switch been climbing, platforming, swinging, stealth, cover shooting, melee, flanking etc on the fly, in a much more fast paced, effortless and polished way than any shooter I've played before it. It can be impressively liberating, to a degree that is beyond near enough every other shooter.
I think people will get tired of things blowing up after a few games man...I know I definitely would have been more negative towards the game if it was just Uncharted 2.5.Who's talking about DS2?

Uncharted 3 was a conscious effort to go bigger with the set pieces. ND have acknowledged this as a misstep and a stated aim for UC4 was to not just go bigger but make them more intimate and cohesive with the narrative

If I were you I would digitally preorder and get your preload started ASAP.amazon is telling me my copies of the game aren't even gonna ship until may 16. what the fuck?
My brother did the same thing. Amazon wasn't shipping until the 13th so he cancelled and preordered digitally.Yeah Amazon delayed my order until May 13 too. Thus I cancelled that crap immediately and bought the game on PS Store instead. Ain't nobody got time for that!
People shrugging off Edmonson's music in 1-3 are really stepping on some thin ice with me...
I mean, you have ears and a mind... why you slippin'?

I hear this all the time that they tried to go bigger, louder, etc. etc. but they feel pretty on par, it's just 2 did it better.
I see no reason not to try and recapture what they did with 2, but doing what they did with Uncharted 4 and grounding it a bit more seems like a fine decision just as much.
Loyalty? I was wowed by the music before knowing the composer or knowing I'd be so invested in the series since game one.Wow... this game needs to come out already. People are starting to compare Souls games with Uncharted. You can feel it's close.
While I agree with the stupidity of simply shrugging off an important part of a work, I think the same should be said about people who become simply headstrong out of loyalty. As you said... you have ears and a mind.
