Uncharted 4 - A Thief's |Reviews Thread| Nateness Awaits

NeoGAF is the only place I've been recently, and even that has been risky.
I don't mess with any other UC4 thread but this one and even then it's a ticking time-bomb it feels like. Around midnight though, I'll be ghost until after I've beaten the game. Can't freaking wait! :)

Fucking Best Buy hasn't even shipped my order yet (it's been "preparing for shipping" for about 2 weeks) Anyone else? Wtf. I'm hopeful the game will still arrive on time, ordered weeks ago.

Don't panic yet. I preordered the Division from them and they got it to me the day of, shipping it only the day before.

Haha, I've pretty much been doing the same thing. Once it ships I feel I'll still be checking on it constantly.
Yeah, I'll probably still keep checking it constantly, haha.
I been refreshing my browser for the past 5 months and 2 hours lol
I started watching it Friday thanks to the deceiving shipping estimate it had for May 6.

Yeah, there's been a couple slip ups in the spoiler free impressions thread, I think. I'm definitely going to be off NeoGAF once I have the game, too.

Time: Why Uncharted 4 Is the Best Game in the Series
http://time.com/4321991/uncharted-4-best-game/

Its a video review so spoilers I assume be careful!

Excellent video, I highly recommend people watch it, especially given its only 5 minutes long. It also covers some of the points being discussed above, expanding on the IGN podcast discussion. This is an interesting counter perspective so to speak, that ironically I think better grasps the changes within the context of the franchise.

How'd you order through the HK store?

Hong Kong PSN account. Forgot I had one from the PS3 days. The pre-order was 10% off and a free theme. Can't find the theme yet, might not be uploaded. Think the 10% off will have ended now.

Cost me about £38. Had to buy HK credit from PlayAsia as my credit card is mastercard and the PSN store wouldn't accept it (it supposedly accepts Visas). So a 300 dollar card and 80 dollar card. If I could have spent exactly it would have been a bit lower in cost (it was 350 odd HK dollars).

It's been glitchy in the past, but in general your preload unlock time is linked to the PSN store you used to buy it not the region of your account or IP.

Yeah VPNs won't work on PS4. It's tied to the store it is bought from. One thing the XB1 done which is totally superior to PS4 is make digital games/DLC region free.

Amazon:
Shipping soon
Deliver by 8pm tomorrow.
WTF!

Ordered it way back on February.

It will likely come on time don't worry.

But you most definitely won't get it any earlier basically. But it will be there Tuesday by your normal mailing time from whichever service it comes.

Brian Altano's attempt to cast a negative shadow on UC4 was really off putting. We know he is Mr.TR, but he came off pretty biased. He is quickly becoming me least favorite member of an annoying group of people. That's hard to pull off considering the company he keeps. The bright side was the Australian chick was not on the podcast, boy she is grating.

My boy Colin is much worst. Dude made it seem like Drake using a rope to swing was like he got psychic powers or something. Dude found it off putting that after 3 games Drake now learns to use a rope. I was like wtf!!!! Did u even play the 1st 3 games. It's not out realm of possibility a dude who murders thousands can finally bring his own rope instead of always hoping he finds one

Proof that you can't please everyone lol. For some the ropeswing mechanic isn't enough of new inclusion, for others it's too much of one.

Yea Colin's criticisms were dumb... i get that its his opinion, but his justification made no sense, because drake is older he can't use a grappling hook, or slide down things? wut?

he said he like the mechanics, but not the context of adding them to drake's arsenal, it just doesnt make sense

Can anyone who's played through the game comment on the quality of the score. They have a new composer who has done work ranging from average to amazing. How's the music in this game? Memorable?

Well, Drake does call out Tenzin in Uncharted 2 for pulling off far less rope swinging shenanigans than what he seems capable of in Uncharted 4.

That did sound very nitpicky to me as well. He said he thinks the game is fantastic but it seemed like he wanted to have something negative to say just to sound fair and unbiased or what not.

Opinions in the thread have ranged from forgettable and bad to excellent. There's not much of a consistent opinion yet, just that it's a bit more understated than the past games. People who liked Edmonson are less enthusiastic on Jackman and vice versa.

Ah cool thanks. Hopefully it's decent. The snippets i've heard from previous trailers and gameplay seem good.

Hey guys, any word on if this one is a fine a jumping off point for a newcomer to the franchise? I loved the Last of Us, and am getting more and more interested in playing this new one. I'm sure I'll miss out on inside jokes and references, but do you think I'd be totally lost?

Nice review...no spoilers from what I can tell, and really highlights what they feel is better about the game.

Personally I'm enjoying it. Though it's definitely a little less dramatic and instead more sombre than that of the past games. Which I suppose fits the general tone of the narrative and pacing. Uncharted 3's score is still my favourite, but I felt they had more to work with on that game, what with the Arabic inspired and more exotic influences.

Its one of the main parts I cover in reviews and I have to say. It was very forgettable. Cut and paste, didn't extend into many new instruments for locations which in this game in particular is a damned travesty, the battle music is rote and doesn't really do much but sit there and certainly doesn't add tension, it also has a strange way of being offputting rather than exciting. Other than 1 track which is a heavy nostalgia piece and does wonders, the rest don't connect emotionally to the locations at all either which is absolutely disappointing.

yup, I think that’s it...You don’t want to come off as just glowing with praise all the time, especially for a game that’s expected to be great. For it to be even better than expected, it’s like “really dude?”

So I tend to step back from games I love to and just say, “Ok, what are the flaws"

Got my UPS email that it's being delivered between 1pm - 5pm tomorrow..........

Need to finish up one of the two games I'm playing now before I get this......

I think the dynamic music in the combat encounters works beautifully. I certainly feel it adds a lot of tension.

I could probably not identify the different pieces by location, but the combat / stealth music worked well for me in many situations.

Nothing new for me. They always ship the afternoon/evening before and I get it on time the next day.

This! You'll be fine for those whose copies haven't shipped from Amazon yet. Mine always shipped the day before said release date, and sure enough, it was on my doorstep the next day. I think it depends on how close an Amazon warehouse is from your address. In my case, it's NH and I live in RI which is only a few hours away.

Can't wait to play it tomorrow! (Watch me jinx myself and the stupid game gets lost in the mail somehow...)

Thanks for the early delivery Amazon. Now I just need to get through this work day :(

Damn lucky! I checked and my order still doesn't have a tracking number. I'm sure it will arrive tomorrow since I've never had a launch package late from Amazon, but would love for them to deliver a day earlier.

I agree. When those drums start banging and the orchestra kicks in, you know shits about to hit the fan. Likewise with the way it curtails off when they've lost sight of you and you're back in stealth mode. You can use the music ques as much as anything else. I also really like some of the emotive instrumentals during exploration of some of the later chapters.
