[IGN First] Final Fantasy XV combat gameplay

The game has been in the pipeline for 10 years...They better polish it up for release! I don't think there is reason to be particularly generous in this game.

I mean, some of the has looked really impressive to me, but from the demos...I still dont know what to fully expect. The last trailers looked awesome, but still..

It looks like the same thing that GameInformer played. And that footage had "pre-beta footage" written all over it, and with that IQ it looks like this is from the pre-beta build too. It's a little weird that they keep showing off that old build, but it'll probably run a little better by release. :)

I don't think the combat will improve though, it wasn't a lot of fun in either of the demos and I feel like I shouldn't expect too much from the main game. :/

Has anyone brought up the fact that the UI is completed disabled? I hope this means we can customize it! Best part of the video.

This game continues to look like a worry, combat just seems real messy and serves to demonstrate the game's mediocre performance. I'm so glad Persona 5 is around the corner.

OK, a good 90% of this is nothing new. That being said, it's gameplay which looks a bit better from what Game Informer showed, so I can't really complain.

Blizzard (?) looks amazing and I'm absolutely in love with the short warp you have when Magic is equipped. With a low MP cost, this is probably the best thing to use to evade quickly. It's ultra fast and responsive too. The same thing was in Platinum Demo.

The Midgardsormr combat looked a bit iffy, though. I don't think the KH combat guys have a good grasp on that kind of enemy shape. We saw a similar problem with the Naga earlier.

Remain really optimistic about the combat. I think they have the right guys working on it, and there's a lot of nuance in the Platinum Demo that leads me to believe that it will work well in the final game. I'm still not sure about the way Magic is aimed though. I have a good feeling that Ring Magic will be awesome.

EDIT: Man, those are some low quality gifs lol.

This looks nowhere near as rough as some people in this thread are saying. And what's with Persona fanboys? I love Persona too but I don't like how some of the fanbase are using P5 to shit on FFXV whenever they can. Dat insecurity.

Yeh. I'm one of the biggest Persona fanboys, but I don't get why to compare it with FFXV. I'm super hyped for both of them, and no one wins if one is better than the other in any way.

They're very different games after all, despite being JRPG's.

It's just because they are JRPG's, let ignore the fact that what the games are aiming for are complete different...

Yep. I'm hype level maximum for Persona 5 and FFXV but there's no reason to mention any game in the other's threads.

Nothing really new about this but it was cool. Ring magic is going to be amazing! After playing UC4 though, I must say these graphics aren't as impressive as I originally thought.... but hey it was ND.

P5 and FF XV seem like great complements to each other as well, one doubling down on turn-based battle, the other going full action, one building its action and story around constrained environments, the other going full open world, one hyper stylized, the other aiming for realism. Both focusing, in quite different ways it seems, on character interaction to drive story forward.

I think, last gen, when console jrpgs seemed to be dying, it was easy to develop a mindset that jrpg interest was so limited one's favored franchise had to corner the shrinking market if it was to even survive. That leads to defensive tribalism. But we seem to be entering a new time of plenty, in which I suspect success and interest in one jrpg may drive interest in other jrpgs. Not an either/or proposition...

Just like what BF fanboys (including me) think, "mine is obviously the superior series, but why on earth does COD sell more every time?" The difference is BF and COD are aiming for the same audience which cannot be said about FFXV and P5.
Another difference is that while BF1 has a chance of dethroning COD this time, Persona can never sell more than a mainline FF like , ever.

Quality of the video is kind of bad, but what can you expect.

The combat looks like it is going to be fun. I hope they can tweak it enough so that there aren't too many issues. It's such an interesting concept, but there are a lot of variables that could potentially go wrong. However, I enjoyed the Platinum demo and if they improve it further then it should be great.

Also, that shuriken looks bad ass.

The current trend is for people to criticize Final Fantasy XV because the menus aren't exploding with colors and animations. That's an interesting design and all, but keep that shit out of Final Fantasy. The series has always had a more simplified style. The excitement is in the set pieces.

I really hope this game is a success for Square due to the budget and the amount of people who are making this game, but I just have a weird feeling this game is not going to review well, which will effect sales in attracting new people to this franchise.

Is it likely for Square to delay until early next year and polish this and make significant improvements to it's gameplay?

I wonder if this a hint that we will be getting a Duscae 3.0 demo? Which would be awesome. I'm still content with the Plat demo and Duscae 2.0, but I'm always up for more.

I'm a huge Persona fan as well, but they're being compared just like how Battleborn and Overwatch are being compared. Two big AAA games, releasing around the same time, big companies behind them, and people will be divided on which game to buy/play first at release.

I've already prepared petition texts just in case. I'll be watching Washington Post closely.

They should focus on polishing and finishing the game instead of updating rushed demo builds. Platinum Demo was a complete waste of time on their part. The area in the footage is the test area which just happens to be in the Duscae region.

Nah, they made a huge event to announce the release date. They know there's no going back now.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case. I just don't want to see Square put less focus on high-budget console-based Final Fantasy games if FFXV does not do well. However, FF7R could recoup the cost of FFXV if it sells very well.

Also, forgot to ask, but there's no way to convert this engine into Unreal Engine 4? KH3 and FF7R already looks good and polished with UE4.

I agree with most that this video is pretty weird. The cuts are really quick with shitty transitions. I don't think we should look at the visuals as being representative of the full games because this is a test area and it's more than likely pre-beta footage as well. I think we can safely say that this isn't "high level" because it's missing ALL of the buddy commands and features.

No. Those games' fanbase is far more overlapped than FFXV and P5's. Also I'd reserve my judgement on calling P5 a big AAA game. An AAA game should not look like a PS3 game no matter how good the art direction is. I appreciate P5 for what it is, and I'm glad it provides a unique experience, but I won't throw it into the same pit as those huge open world games.

Most importantly, most people on GAF will not be divided on which to buy because it will probably take Atlus a few extra months to localize P5.

Even Uncharted 1 looks better overall, honestly.

UC1 is an embarrassment to FF XV. More Crash level, really.

Seriously though, despite being an FF XV booster, I'm anxious that the final product will be too uneven. Still, applaud their shooting for the moon.

Pretty much the case in the Platinum Demo yes.

Never played a final fantasy...I cant stand input delay and treacle controls...

I was interested in this, looks gaiden like, but if it controls like shit its an instant pass.....

Also IGN player made it look bloody awful

Well it was an unpolished Demo things should change for the main game hopefully...

nice, I will still change that weird circle for attack and square for defense. also I hope they... added more depth to the attack system and not just hold this button, done.

I get that we still gotta switch between weapons to coordinate attacks but that hold this button to attack is a bit weird so I hope that changes.

I liked the combat system of Episode Duscae more but oh well.
