What is the scariest box art?

My dad got me a Dreamcast with no memory card and this game. I spent so much time replaying it just to see if I could get to the end in a single play through :(

I thought this one was a bad photoshop until I saw some of the responses. I guess I'm missing what makes this one spooky? :\

I guess it helps to know it's the cover for a game in a series with this kind of stuff:

It's also quite scary even without/before any deaths, from what little I've played. Really great atmosphere-building.

box art for quake has always been super intimidating to me
it really gives off this kind of evil aura like some kind of haunted creepy pasta game
it's probably because of the heavy nine inch nails influence

Giger, man.

I wish more games used his art style, especially now since graphics have made substantial progress.
I could see Giger's art style working well in a next generation Metroid Prime. It always felt like that was what Super Metroid was going for anyway. Might as well embrace it.

I always thought the Japanese cover art for Silent Hill: Downpour was supremely effective. I can't believe it wasn't used for every region.

Oh, that's easy for me.

Used to have a Spectrum as a small child - loads of games, largely kid-friendly, and then there's this fucking thing that scared the shit out of me:

It's from a Lovecraft piece by artist Tim White:

Yep. Really wish this was the box art here in the U.S.

I dunno if this is scary....it's more....ominous and terrifying.

I REALLY wish that was the NA cover for RE4. I've considered getting the EU game JUST for the cover its that good.
I'm not sure what people are talking about. My Gamecube version had a reversible cover with the chainsaw guy on the inside. I immediately reversed the cover, and it was the NA version.

The ones that stuck out to me and haunted my dreams...

For some, I printed my own:

The game doesn't show nearly as much gore as the anime.

The whole game fucked me up as a kid.

Holy crap! I remember this game. IIRC, it opens with this baby crying somewhere in the lighthouse, and as your looking around, there's this sound and the crying just abruptly stops. Scared the crap out of me way back in the day.

For me it's gotta be

Twisted_Metal_Black.jpg

I'd never assume this was a car combat game, judging from the cover alone. It's a fine game, don't get me wrong - I own the entire series - but this cover, as well as the music and tone to the whole game, it creeps me out.

I remember going through the same thing when this came out. I was aware of Twisted Metal but never played them, and what I saw of Black set weird expecations for the earlier games that they dont actually match except for like Small Brawl which was obviously cartoony

That doesn't terrify me now, but I know for certain it would've fucked me up around when it first came out

I don't get the scare on this one personally. I think from other posts with the spoilers, it'd have been more effective if they'd been scribbled out, instead of someone using what looks like the spray paint tool in paint.

In the Netherlands we got this one.... which is scary in its own way I guess

I'm guessing that floating orcish head is supposed to be one of those rotating floating enemies... or maybe one of those miniature goblin heads from Air Man's stage?
Either way it really puzzled me and creeped me out back then.
