2016 PC Screenshot Thread of No Compromises

I know some people here are down on Reshades when the game already looks great, but I like how mine has turned out though I need to do some more tweaking since sharpening a bit too much in some screens than it does in motion. I used these settings with the intention of fixing the problem of STLM making all the grass look neonish green in the main game and it took forever to get that without messing up how other parts of the game looked since this game uses so many colors, finally I got something I like. It's also nice in this expansion that is also maybe a little overly green to me.

Imo that sharpening just destroys the image. Definitely could lower it a lot. I like how it looks otherwise. Maybe upload the config ;-)

solid mechanics and game design but the tracks are very boring and uninspired. performance is also pretty damn low for the very poor visuals

Hmm, I have no issues with performance, and my machine is pretty mediocre. I mean, yeah, I've seen games run better than that, but I never felt that the performance was that bad. =o

Iin the case of the new Witcher 3 DLC, it's probably essential. I'll be searching for some good setups as soon as I start it as I think the default color balance looks kinda bad.

The title of this thread, 'Thread of No Compromises', starts to get less and less accurate these days...

I don't know what you're referring to, but the title of the thread is supposed to mean that console games have to make compromises for the games to run on the limited hardware, whereas PC doesn't have that problem.

Anywho... I apologize for the horrible mountains in the background (2nd pano)

It's just getting a little tiresome seeing shots from people (not me) who put a lot of effort in them being drowned by a large stream of low-effort, "let's just randomly press the print-screen button during gameplay", often hud carrying shots, where the 'no compromises' label isn't really applicable.

I think he was more pointing out that is against the rules of the thread.

That was the joke :(

So uptight in here lol.

Yea, I'm not a fan of this stuff either.

Though generally I don't turn off HUD cuz I'm lazy, but I do try to make a good shot.

Thanks for letting me know. I've never been one into tweaking but Witcher 3 is a game I love enough to put in the effort to make the visuals more pleasing to me.
I literally spent hours in Velen trying to get it to look right. I hadn't noticed the sharpening looking too much while playing until I took some screens so will definitely look into turning it down.
If it turns out good enough I may upload it, I've never done that either :)

I recently started playing through DS2 myself. I own the Scholars of the First Sin version, which is DX11 only, excluding me from using GeDoSaTo and ENBs. I also bought the standard DS2 just to try it out with some ENBs but it was crashing every few minutes so I'm just going to stick with SotFS and use Reshade.

Try disabling FRAPS and steam overlay. Both of those have caused reshade issues for me.

There's nothing wrong with gameplay shots with HUD as they are more representative of what a game look like than a heavily supersampled, hacked, sweetfx'd, photoshopped, cropped, edited shot. They have a reason to be here as well.

If you think that we should have a lower limit of consecutive and/or one page shots from one game/person then this is something to add to the rules in OP. I personally would be fine with 2 shots per post / 1 post per page limit.

What really bugs me is when you get 3 posts in a row where all 6 shots look almost exactly the same with just slightly different angles. One shot will have 2 cars going down a hill, and the next shot will have those 2 cars a little further down the hill and the camera slightly turned to the right.

But I digress... there are no thread rules that people have to spend any more than a few seconds on a screenshot. As much as some people would like this thread to be a screenshot portfolio for 5-6 people, that's not exactly realistic. You're always going to have people who treat taking screenshots as a hobby, and then there will be people that just want to show what a game looks like, HUD and all. That's why, in the past, threads like this popped up. But threads like that eventually die off, and the OP decides to make his own website to show off his screenshots instead =P

Yeah that's true, and agreed. Hmm...

Not sure if 1 post per page will doable, we might end up with a page which will never be finished ;). My guess would be to add a suggestion to the OP, which states that it's preferable to post shots without hud and with a little effort. We can't force anyone to do whatever, but especially our large legion of lurkers will benefit from more high quality shots I think ;)

There are different sharpening shaders in Reshade, people often go for the sweetfx one, but there are others which might give better results in this case like JPulowski's Finesharp, Ioxa's gauss which also has a sharpening section and Bacondither's AdaptiveSharpen. Also the place in the pipeline.cfg might give different results: if you have placed the sharpening shaders after the AA (if you have that enabled), they might sharpen away smoothened edges, creating harsher outlines than you'd need.

Cheers :)

I was using the sweetfx one so I'll try the others too. Never really knew what all the different shaders do so didnt touch a lot. And I'll look in the pipeline.cfg too. Thanks for the tips.

100% agreed. Don't get me wrong I also enjoy the artsy, cheat-engine'd shots too every now and then, but this thread has room for both those representative/gameplay shots.

I like the idea of 2 shots per post / 1 post per page.

I'd even stretch the rules to make only so many posts per game on each page. I feel like I mostly only see TW3 and AC Unity in this thread.

Just to get some variety. Doesn't anyone own stuff like Killing Floor 2 or something? I'd like to see some other games. It gets a bit boring when I'm one of the few who posts older games too, just imo. I mean you can anti-alias and superscale the shit out of older games too which is quite fun.

I left the HUD on on my Gas Guzzlers screens because there's no way to turn it off, fyi. I took out all I could, and there's no replays in that game. =/

EDIT: honestly, some rules are necessary, and I think that what we already have is enough. Too much is too much. Nobody is forced to look at screenshots you don't like. Just scroll down. I mean, someone posting 8K PNG pictures on a shitty host that takes forever to load the pic is annoying. Someone posting uncompressed 1080p JPG files is ignorable.

I remember avoiding to post on this thread before because of this craziness of free cams, complex reshade stuff, supersampling, hacks... We could have more variety if this thread wasn't so daunting, I guess.

Wow, I love this one!

One of those moments when you just have to stop and stare. This game is beautiful.

Can we not link to the shots on Flickr? It's so much better to just post the full size images, that way people don't have to close a tab when they try to expand the shot in the browser here.

yeah forgot to title it.

Trying out this 2 GB mod that turns Fallout 4 into the Last of us .

TBH THIS is how i actually imagine the world Should look like 200 years after atomic annihilation.

Also apologies but totaly forgot to turn FPS counter off .

Long time lurker here. It would be difficult to limit posts to one post per page since I am sure if people really wanted to they could get around this by having multiple accounts right?

Also, the no HUD rule should definitely be a thing. I mean, already almost 95% of the shots here already have no HUD, it is just a select few which don't. Keep in mind though that certain games should be except if the HUD is something like Deadspace where it is already really minimal and even rendered within the engine (ie, exists in the game world and is not omnipresent).

To me, that's precisely the reason why it's ok for some shots to show the hud. They have an altogether different point, and I appreciate the variety. But that's just my opinion.
Speaking of which, have a couple of HUD-ed shots. Mostly because I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.
